  1. I'm thinking about going to one of the vent-rib barrels on my SLP, and they have them all the way out to 30" Is anyone running a barrel that long? The tube is going to stick out that far anyway... the only downside I can see would be weight.
  2. Great info here, and probably all you need to fix your issue. However, I'll throw another monkey wrench in based on "it happened to me!". When was you last dental checkup? I had a small cavity in a back molar on my shooting side that ended up impinging on a part of the maxillary nerve and causing bad headaches that would get worse after shooting the shotgun. Got it fixed, the headaches went away.
  3. Whoever you talked to at Noveske either thought you were shooting offhand or needs to be fired. 3.5MOA rested means something is wrong. Who did the pin/weld job?
  4. This sub-forum could really use a "pinned" thread about how 4MOA "translates" into what size targets at what range. Math are hard.
  5. Now THAT'S the best news I've had all day. I wasn't loving an August match.
  6. I've gotta get that Adam-12/TJ Hooker Championship (pump shotgun/revolver 2-gun) off the ground....
  7. Some of us aren't hiding from anyone. ( would have beaten a higher percentage of entrants in last month's FNH match in Open or TO, shooting my TL gear). Hell, I've been doing this for quite some time, and I'd be just as happy getting smoked by one bunch of shooters as another. Some of us enjoy putting together and competing with different equipment sets. We just enjoy playing the game differently. The idea that we have equipment divisions just to allow for more people to "win" is what's insulting to me.
  8. Meh... who cares what they look like? They're just tools used to play a game... which pretty much makes them toys. The thought of using a shotgun for real-world "tactical timmy" stuff when you have a perfectly good rifle available is laughable anyway....
  9. Well, it would be a boon to Mark at XRail and R&R, Tooth and Nail, and Firebird.... Actually, if it weren't for the shotgun (really just high shell-count shotgun stages), heads up all "open" would probably be fairly viable. Heavy, as much as I hate to admit it because I really enjoyed shooting it, is dead. The "split" into HO/HI effectively killed it.
  10. The purpose, IMHO, of equipment divisions, is to separate equipment based on what advantages it offers, not by what it "looks like". Given a mag tube restriction, a longer shotgun barrel offers very little advantage (and significant disadvantage).
  11. Not trying to be argumentative (I've been lobbying for a class like you described for a few years now), but I don't really see the point of a rifle barrel length limit in the first place. Unless you're shooting irons, or looooong ranges, a 20" or even longer isn't going to give you an advantage. And a 20.5" barrel length max on shotguns would open up a lot more "factory" options, while still being "tactical". (hate that word).
  12. That division actually sounds really fun. My only "tweaks" would be 140mm pistol mags like Jaycwebb said, (I wouldn't hate the idea of the pistol dots having to be slide mounted, as well), and something to differentiate the rifle from open rifles (lose the bipod maybe?). My initial thought was to add a "less equipment" division to split TO... but a "more equipment" division would do the same thing, and this division sounds pretty awesome.
  13. One of the very best parts of the way 3 gun is structured (or "not structured", if you will) is the ability for MDs to offer match concepts like this, and let the shooters decide where they want to go.
  14. Super Mod would basically what Tac Optics is now. It's the Modified division that would be the new experiment.
  15. This. Some forearms are stiff enough to handle sight mounting, some aren't even close. The JP, for example, is a great handguard, but it flexes quite a bit under pressure, you wouldn't want a sight mounted on the end of it. Besides, with irons, sight radius is everything. Get that sucker out there as far as you can. Just because the functional gas block is under the handguard doesn't mean you can't put another one out near the muzzle.
  16. This. A real blind stage would be pretty cool (wouldn't want a whole match of them)... but there really isn't an effective way to make it "blind" for everyone. They tried it at FB3G. By about halfway through the first day, it was pretty obvious that a lot of shooters knew exactly where the targets were. And Sterling, your match needs more revolver and pump gun!
  17. For what it's worth, Kurt, I was advocating splitting up TO (the biggest division), not the smaller division.
  18. That is exactly the kind of thinking that went into my "split Tac Ops into Super Modified and Modified" concept. Except for the "Modified" division I also added a 4X upper limit on the rifle scope, and 17rd mag limit on the pistol. This would make two very disparate equipment sets, and dramatically decrease the cost of equipment parity in the Mod division. (Good 1-4X scopes can be found way cheaper than 1-6 or 1-8X, and it's easy to have a couple hundred bucks in magazine basepads and shotgun tube accessories to get extra rounds).
  19. I like the concept... as I've opined elsewhere, the equipment divisions are starting to run together. I might even think about adding some pistol restrictions as well.
  20. Well darn... I did a search... I must have mistyped it, because I couldn't find a thing, and now there's all the info in the world. Oops. Carry on.
  21. Okay... I was really just kinda joking about the prize table waits.... I'd just like to see shooters more evenly distributed among divisions that actually represent disparate sets of gear. Equipment divisions lose a lot of their "meaning" when 4/5 shooters are all in the same one. And the gear in a couple of the others isn't terribly different. In the 3-gun league that I'm nowhere near motivated or smart enough to form there would be: Open: which is duh... open. Pretty much anything safe and legal. Super Mod: described above Modifed: described above Defender: Modified, except with irons/RDS or rifle, manually operated shotguns, and pistols that are legal in either IDPA SSP or USPSA Production or Single Stack.
  22. I probably should have asked before I ordered, but is anyone running these? I just put a backorder in for on of the 16" rifle-length lightweight barrels... going to take a couple of pounds off of my rifle!
  23. I hear this argument all the time.... Why? And as for which divisions could go... My beloved HM was already pretty much killed off when it was split into heavy optics and heavy irons. One shooter in HI at FNH this year. One. Out of over 350. I say let the .308 and .45 guns compete in the various divisions, with a scoring advantage.
