  1. Is the case insert slide pushing the case completely into the shell plate slot? Is the case insert slide sliding freely on the platform?
  2. No drilling of the press body is required with my method either. No helicoil to install either. Total cost per tool head is about a dollar.

    Which one?

The REAL thing. 650 or 1000cc's?
  4. I've heard it said that timbling is guaranteed NOT to leak, squeak or run down your leg. YMMV.
  5. Read this article. http://www.brazoscustom.com/magart/0601.htm fifth pic down shows Bob peening the end of the safety. Note the feeler gauge to fill the groove that slides down the frame. You DON'T want to hammer the groove closed!
  6. Bevin has always been a class act.
  7. Hell On Wheels, Foyles War. Watched Deadwood on DVD, great, crude but great.
  8. If you can breath on your own and if you can walk upright you can load on a Dillon. GOFERIT!!!
  9. Those of you that might be wanting to mod a Dillon 550 or 650 for precision reloading might have read that clamping the toolhead is necessary along with a floating die set up. After a bit of brainstorming about clamping the toolhead in the frame I came up with a very inexpensive solution that does not require any modification of the frame. I tapped the toolhead holes with an 8-32 tap and installed 8-32x.250" dog head setscrews in my Whidden toolhead. Now it's a case of sliding the toolhead in the frame and snugging down the setscrews with a 5/64" hex head wrench through the top holes in the frame. Doing so pushes the toolhead up in the frame slot and locks it in place using the bottom frame holes. EASY PEASY! The 8-32 tap requires a #29 drill (.1360"). The factory Dillon toolhead alignment holes are .1260" and will need to be drilled out with the #29 drill. The Whidden toolhead alignment holes are .140" and can be tapped as is. Take the time to start the tap straight and use cutting oil. The 8-32x.250" setscrews should cost around 30 cents each at the hardware store so each toolhead will set you back less than $1.00.
  10. Heck yea, nice for those slug spinners at range. Or long range slugs in a weird shooting position. Not every match, but once in a blue moon it comes in handy. Wurks fer me!
  11. Stop and try to picture where the creep is occurring. Your finger is pressed into the trigger, no creep there. The trigger is pressed into the disconnector, no creep there. The disconnector is pressed into the sear, no creep there. The sear is pressed into the hammer/hammer hooks, no creep there. Okay, now what's left to cause the creep? The creep is being caused by the amount of travel that the sear has to move in order for the sear nose to slide up the hammer hooks to reach the release point. It doesn't matter if you use a traditional primary/secondary finish on the sear or a True Radius finish, the creep will still be there. I'd bet that if you measure the actual depth of the hammer hooks you find them to be .020" or more. If you have access to the correct tools (jig, stones, etc.) you can stone down the hooks .001" and see what the creep is like. 018" tall hooks is the norm. Be VERY aware that unless the sear primary face has been stoned correctly to mate perfectly with the vertical face of the hammer hooks, you may start having other issues, some very dangerous (full auto!).
  12. Why doesn't somebody make a phone call and ask?
  13. You can change the seating depth on a 550. In your owners manual, page 5, look at the primer seating cup (#13824). Disassemble the primer seating cup/primer seating punch and primer seating stop spring. Carefully file .003"-.005" off the BOTTOM of the primer seating cup. If you have access to a lathe or mill it will be more accurate. Reassemble the unit and reinstall the primer slide assembly and reinstall in the press. The primers will now be pressed into the brass that much deeper. Read the reply on the SnipersHide forum by AntiMatterSH ( #19) which has pics for the procedure. http://www.scout.com/military/snipers-hide/forums/5532-reloading/14679144-precision-reloading-w-a-dillon-550-and-prometheus-measure This is what some of the long range precision shooters are doing to their 550's to produce highly accurate rifle rounds.
