  1. Thanks for the comments Ray. Love the avatar - cool. Last league I printed the dryfire briefing from the USPSA rulebook and handed it out to those that showed up. Didn't want any holes in the wall or the TV at the shooter's house if you know what I mean. Yes, the drills are a part of the class only. What is neat is taking a new person and seeing their draw go from X to 1/3 X in a short amount of time. When you are new you see huge gains and they can drastically see what techniques have to offer them. The live fire and keeping track of standards and looking at those over time also helps the head games for me. It is in black and white that I am improving. I also keep a shooting log and find it very helpful. This week a quick refresher from last week and then onto strong hand and weak hand drills. Can't wait. Rick
  2. I bought the cool new Charcoal one. It is not as black as it appears in the photo. I like it. So if you already have one of the Peble colored ones add a Charcoal to the wardrobe. If you combine the shirt and a book check out the combo deal pricing and the shirt is even less. Thanks for the links Flex, Rick
  3. Two days ago, I ordered Saul Kirsch's new book, Thinging Practical Shooting; Lanny Bassham's book, With Winning in Mind and a Maku Mozo T-shirt. It just arrived in Wis from AZ! I expected 2 weeks not two days. Super Cool! Ordered on the 19th and at the house on the 21st, never would have expected that. I'll report back on the books, but a comment on the T-Shirt, I sure would like to see more forum members wearing the shirts to shoots. It would be nice to put a face to some of the Characters, if you know what I mean. Thanks Brian for the prompt service. Rick
  4. JP magwell for me too. It fits in the IDPA box if you are so inclined to be a crossover shooter who shoots ESP and Limited. Extra nice that stock mags work just fine with it.
  5. One more comment about group size. 5, 5 shot groups should be shot and group size should be averaged to see what a gun can do for performance. The best one time group of 3 shots that happen to cluster together is not a true indicator of accuracy. Rick
  6. I was going to mention earlier about group shooting, that having someone else that is an accomplished group shooter to shoot your gun is a good option. I have two G34s and one is more accurate than the other.
  7. Even in good 'ole Wisconsin, the land of sportsman, if it can be used in a pistol (except for 22 rimfire) and a few other exempt cartridges you need to be 21 to purchase it. Rounds that were developed as handgun rounds, 38 spec, 9mm, 357, 44, 45 are all required to be 21. We don't have an ID card like IL has a FOID. If I remember right there was a time when you had to document even 22 rimfire sales they dropped that in the Reagan Admin somewhere. Sounds like she would have had the same problem if she tried to buy from a sports shop. Rick
  8. I don't pretend to have any answers, I don't know you or your brother. A comment on what this reminded me of is that depression is real and alive in America. Sounds like he is yelling for help to me, he is just scared of actually accepting it. There aren't any easy answers. He's just damn lucky to have someone like you who cares about him enough to keep him company and listen to him. Don't give up on him. Rick
  9. Good timing in that I bought two books: "With Winning in mind" and Sauls newest book "Thinking IPSC" along with a T shirt yesterday. My wife likes to go to concerts and buy T shirts from the groups that she admires. She spends a rediculous amount on a T shirt at the concerts. She just came back from a Keith Urban concert with a shirt and I was thinking I should have a Brian Enos.com shirt. I finally took the plunge. So the Maku Mozo on the front is one thing. Can someone shed some light on what the back means? I cut and pasted the following from the web site: On the back is one of my favorite saying from Zen Master Chih (approx. 800 AD): "When one makes false calculation by accepting the appearance of oneself as a being, there occurs a dichotomy of active and passive that may be called delusion." I'm not a being? So what am I? I'm a delusion? There are certain times when I wish I wasn't a being, but most of the time I think that I am here?????? Help Rick
  10. About 15 years ago I am chatting with an old timer who use to shoot a ton but was getting up there in age. He had a keg of powder that had to go 50 pounds sitting on the shelf. It was an old powder called 4831 but wasn't Hogdon it said Bonanza on it. It was reclaimed military powder and he bought it in the 70s some time. I smelled it to see if it was deteriorated and it wasn't. At the time I was pulling the trigger for fur a whole bunch with a .243 winchester in a Rem 700 action. I shot 3000 rounds of .243 that first year with that powder. I have shot many, many sub moa 5 shot groups with that old stuff that I thought might not be any good any longer. Last week I was reloading for the upcoming deer season. My wife shoots my old dog gun in 243 win and I shoot a 7mm-08 and just used up the last of that powder. Sure wish I could buy some of that old stuff somewhere, I liked it as well as anything IMR / Dupont ever put out. You have components from 1990 something. Damn that stuff is brand new. I'll be firing rounds deer hunting this year with powder purchased in the 70's and manufacturer well before that. Rick
  11. Outerlimits, that is one ugly thought, if I get a flat at the next shoot you are on the shit list. All kidding aside, that sounds like a good plan.

I bought a 3 wheeled baby jogger and put an umbrella holder on it and the bag sits in the seat, a small cooler on the bottom and a folding chair and I am ready for a day on the range. Good luck making your own perfect range bag. I use a "5.11 range ready tactical bag" and love it and everything fits. Do a search here for "5.11 range ready tactical bag" http://www.goemsusa.com/ Rick
  13. Had my stock barreled G34 at the range the other day shooting off of sand bags at 50 yards. Three shot groups not 10 shot groups went into an average of 2 1/2". This is with CCI Blazer, 115 gr ammo that I buy from Natchez at $4.77/box. Try some your gun might like it too. My eyes aren't what they use to be but the gun shoots well enough that I find no need for another barrel unless you reload and wanted to shoot lead. At the prices that I buy factory ammo I have no need of that option. I have shot several thousand rounds of CCI Blazer this year and am very happy with it. Rick
  14. In a recent Stressfire class they always give examples of why we are trained a certain way. One example about why we index our shooting finger on the frame instead of the trigger guard: An officer was checking doors for locked condition when the home owner on the other side grabbed the door handle at the same time and pulled. The officer pulled and a sympathetic response was to squeeze the gun hand. This caused her finger to come off of the front of the trigger guard and engage the trigger sending a round through the door and killing the homeowner. Again, they trained finger on the frame not the trigger guard. I would have shit myself on the spot had I have been anyone of those guys standing there. Rick
  15. Standles, it's good for the soul to express yourself. I just have to get better at expressing myself with lead. Rick
  16. George, you peaked my own curriousity so I called Briley: Office or Technical (For questions concerning Briley products and services) 713-932-6995 Mike, at the technical help desk said that the tube was a skeet restriction which is 5 thousands. He confirmed that a cylinder tube will produce a larger pattern and may be what you are really after. Call the above number for more specific answers. Hope that this helps George. Rick
  17. I believe the reduced striker spring from Wolff is a 4 pound spring. Rick
  18. I have a diffuser that I shot quite a lot at sporting clays. It was advertised like you said to be a spreader type of choke. That reads as more open than cylinder. In actual firing I found it equal to skeet in many applications. I used it with 1 oz of 8 1/2s on many courses that some boys thought they needed improved and 1 1/8 oz of shot. My coach was level III NSCA instructor Jim Arnold. He wasn't big on "twiddling" with choke tubes. I came to him as a guy who changed tubes on most stations. I finally realized it is more where you point it than the choke. Go buy one and be happy. Rick
  19. Did this project ever come to completion? Where can I download the card? Thanks, Rick
  20. Once upon a time not all that long ago, I know some guys on this board were working on a business card that you could put the USPSA website on and match contact info and hand out to prospective shooters. I took a short break from the board shortly after that thread started. Did that idea ever come to completion? Where can I download the business card template? Thanks, Rick
  21. So Flex, break it down for us. What were your reasons to go with the level 3 by choice? Looking at it just from the info in this post, the level 3 with 2 classifiers is actually less expensive for the club than a Level 2 with 2 classifiers and you get the added bene of the add in Front Sight with the level 3 match. Am I thinking along the right lines? Rick
  22. We have a similar idea on this end. We have a league where we not only just shoot stages, but we walk new shooters through the 4 rules of gun safety, the range commands and show them how to draw from the holster and do reloads. We are keeping a log of draw times, reload times, El Presidente times etc. It's fun sharing, but it also helps me work on basics that I always need work on. We are getting good feedback and having fun and hopefully these people will be ready to go to a match and know what is going to happen and feel comfortable enough to compete and enjoy the shooting sports. Glad that you are having so much success. Rick
  23. Brian, I always appreciate your paragraph or two of insight dropped into the fray. Like wonderful chucks of gold falling where a common guy can pick them up. In my log from my last two outings, I stressed the point that I need to continue my visual patience. Sometimes the trigger finger goes when I am not seeing what I need to see. I seem to have the video player recall and ask myslef why did that shot break there? Visual patience is big on the personal goal list. Thanks again for the wonderful morsels of nourishment. Rick
  24. I've seen some of the turkey sights that mount to a rib that might do well in 3 gun competition. Just a thought.
