  1. Clean Moon Clips for a .45? Thought the grime would just help tighten them up, so they would load faster!
  2. The one thing I try to watch out for, that's not been listed yet, is try NOT to listen to the GM's firing cadence. It seems if I'm not careful I'll incorporate that into my own visualization and forget to watch that front sight.
  3. You'll never be able to catch all ground work before a match starts, within financial reason, and the Area 5 crew worked their cans off trying to overcome mother natures crying shame. I do like a nice "Match Booklet", something that was lacking at Area 5. I have started keeping them, with the info filled in, as both a momento/reminder of the match and future COF references for local matches.
  4. Used to be a civilian version called the NMSS. Shot it many times in the 1980's. It was fun, slow paced and accuracy intensive.
  5. Have a buddy who did it. Worked fine with regular clips. The machinist just needs to get the proper specs.
  6. You have a day job? Just kidding. See you at the MCC. Later rdd Most of us do, Bubber. Not everybody knows your secret of making a small fortune in the cattle business Is that money you keep smelling out there Bubber?
  7. This has got to be Bureaucratic Mindset. And it's so wrong on so many levels. If they were trying to make it easier on the Match Officials, which it would seem, it doesn't look like it works does it. Maybe they'll give you a FTDR for re-entering, after you shoot the match. Good Luck
  8. I voted no, thought about it many years ago (with and without the major/minor issue) and we discussed it even here then. Who would want to shoot a 7 shot, when an 8 shot is allowed? So in IPSC with an 8 shot limit per position you'd be making Revolver Division a required 8 shot minor division, so it would not change the dynamics just the equipment. I think you would lose as many as you gain. Me for one, just can't afford/justify tooling up for an 8 shot and would just start shooting my 1911 all of the time. Might even go the cheap route, one reason I liked Revo no equipment race, and go with my Glock in Production. And you can't assume the ICORE guys will flock over. I'd shoot ICORE more if it was available with my 625, as ICORE at least tries to keep the 8 shots from being an advantage, but I wouldn't if I had to get another gun for it at this time. IPSC is such a different game from ICORE, the mindset is even way more different than the mindset of production vs limited in IPSC. If I was serious about ICORE I'd be reluctant to shoot IPSC on a serious level regardless of equipment. I've shot IPSC, ICORE, NMSS (Civilian PPC), NRA Action Pistol, Bullseye and even Steel Challenge Matches with a Revolver. And I'd say ICORE is closer to Action Pistol than IPSC. I'd say leave it as it is.
  9. Actually I think it was more of a case of lots of wide open targets, fairly close tempting us to push the envelope. I usually don't do a lot of "on the move" shooting, but in this match I seemed to be doing it on every stage. On Stage 1, with the activator set off of the path, I was focused on the first swinger and after engaging it, I pivoted to the first target on the left. It just felt like I was on the 180, I stopped backed up a step and engaged the target. Then at the end I actually engaged the right target in the air. And looking back I had to be close to the 180. At bigger matches I always seem to err on the side of caution with target engagement, always aware of a DQ threat when I've paid some moola for the fun. It was a good match, and the number of DQ's was definitely out of the norm.
  10. El Conquistador is another year wiser. Becomes a budding new TV Star. But we all knew him before he was famous. Happy Birthday Cliff, what a year!
  11. All else being equal, the competitor being comfortable with both types I've found that splits are usually about 10% slower and your focus at any given moment makes a bigger difference, no difference on the draw/transitions. Reloads, at least for me, are usually about 60% slower. The problem is you have to do so many more than a Limited/Open or even a L10/Production guy. Depending on the course you can even do close to twice the number of a Single Stack. But it does get lonely.
  12. Until I read MarkCo's Lead Paper (thanks for posting it), I agreed with you Mike, I had actually been thinking on another track and wandered a bit. But after reading his paper, FWIW I was told the same mechanism that introduced Pesticides into the system thru the groin/genitals and the scalp were similar. Big wake up though with the tumbler media. I knew it gave me a headache, I'm allergic to so much crap, but it just never seemed to register that it contained lots of lead also. Figure it's a personal hazzard for me, but don't want the wife exposed. Think I'll move the tumbler outside to the garage, I could use the space anyway. I once asked a doctor during my annual physical to check my blood for lead. He acted as if I'd asked him to check for the Andorian Shingles. He did though and all was normal, this was after half a dozen of the guys who I shot with at an indoor range in the '80's had very elevated lead levels. Probably something we should all be more conscious of, but not stress over.
  13. I used to shoot indoors a lot and was tested and never had any problems. Shooting indoors or in an area that retains smoke can hurt you, but most indoor ranges now have good ventilation. Most likely culprit would be eating, smoking or something like sucking your thumb? during or after handling lead, like reloading, or while in a high lead environment. It's not just the smoke, it's the lead residue that attaches to everything. What's your work environment? If you smoke anything in your environment ends up in your lungs, some get pretty nasty. Such as the oil in refrigerant systems would turn to an acid when burned, as in a cigarette. Might think of checking other family members to see if they also have high levels. Just shooting, properly, doesn't lead to it necessarily. Another reason to wear a cap, your hair actually wicks up what touches it. Handling pesticides where I found out about that.
  14. Yes. Look at the time matrix attached to post #29 above for details. Just curious, might not check out of the Hotel until after I'm finished on the Sun AM squad then. Would be time for a shower after the match then, that would be nice.
  15. Noticed the Sunday squads are listed as both AM and PM. Is there actually a difference in those squads Sunday Start Timea?
  16. Sounds like you have a crack. If you do use Loc Tite, use ONLY THE BLUE 242. Stay away from the Red 271 as that takes a bit of heat to loosen back up.
  17. I'd love to find a 4" 625 and use it. Better yet a 4" M25! Just think a Blued Revolver looks best. The heavier shroud on the 625 helps with weight and recoil. I think it would matter on which one handled best for you. I first used a 4" M29 and loved it, went to a 625 due to cheaper costs. As with most shooting, except for ridiculous extremes, most advantages are in our minds. Pick one, practice hard until you've convinced yourself it's the best for you, be humble and open minded and enjoy yourself.
  18. I've tried both Slide Glide and Slide Glide Lite and didn't like either for a revo, ok in the auto in some spots. I've tried everythng else I can get my grubby paws on from the Brownells stuff to Mobil 1 to Silicone/Teflon to Rem Oil Actually settled on Rem Oil as the best for me.
  19. A Sherwynn Standard sends shivers down the average, knowing competitors spine! Witness the simple Handcuffed Zip Line One Handed Field Course Speed Shoot at last years A3! Great fun, until my 1911 picked the middle of the stage to choke. Lets see 375 rounds, 14 stages = 26.79 rounds per stage, guess not many Short Courses. And e gads, concerns with PROPS. I'm more worried now than before.
  20. Yep moves like the Gloved One!
  21. Let's see it's 38 days 15 hours 14 minutes to the Area 3, as per the Area 3 Website. And I still don't see any stage descriptions. Am I just missing something? Might be nice to know at least the round count, special starts or other things to consider before getting to the match. Or is this going to be a surprise match? Haven't been to one of those since the '80's.
  22. Any info on the flood warnings at Quincy and the Mississippi?
  23. I know they frown on using Cyclers for moving target practice with litter. I will have 600+ rounds of loaded Moonclips in my bag and 2 Revolvers. Guess I'll try to seperate them from the bag. Thanks guys.
  24. Any advice on guns in Illinois? Been a few years since I've been there. Still ok to keep it bagged and unloaded in the trunk, or does it have to be locked up? Anything like that? I'm just a Kansas farm boy so I try to keep it simple.
