  1. Yep but you said changing the finish of a gun does not give you a competitive advantage, and I agree with you, but the rules are still inconsistent coz just adding a plastic dust plug with no weight does not give a competitive advantage and I don't think the Vanek trigger job that externally moves a tiny pin a few thou gives an advantage either. I don't know but I do know I can add a rubber sleeve that "recontours" my gun and makes my grip fatter but I can't shave off a few thou to make the gun slimmer to fit my hand better. Why is fatter allowed but not thinner? Is one a competitive advantage and the other one not?
  2. You mean like the Vanek trigger ruling? Good question. I'd like to know the same answer about having my Glock 34 grip stippled at home with a soldering iron instead of being forced to stick on pre-cut grips or inserting a plastic plug in the rear channel to keep out range dust or adding a fatter mag release so my stubby thumb can reach it or shaving the backstrap to make my grip more comfy.
  3. There's a good post at Global Village about why Production Division was created: http://ipsc.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=4114 Very interesting!
  4. How high did the Vietnamese place at world shoot? I'm going to Saigon next year and I'd love to try shooting a match while I'm there if I can borrow a gun. Who can I get contact? The other thing is why worry about world membership numbers? Isn't it more important to find out why USPSA can't seem to get past 15k members for 20 years? IIRC I've seen some USPSA shooters with "A" membership numbers around the 60 thousand number mark, so what happened to the rest? This is the biggest gun owning country in the world and I think 15,000 is a pretty bad showing.
  5. Which rule lets you do that? BTW the answer to the same "hands hanging naturally" question at the IPSC forum was basically "DOH! See Appendix F1". Seems like a winner to me.
  6. Nothing. The illegal thing is not the gun, it's the shooter's actions. I think IPSC got it right.
  7. Two days ago at the IPSC forum, Vince made an identical suggestion, except he also deleted Point 17 too.
  8. There is and that's one of the points of Avery's article. On one hand you want a realistic target with a head but on the other hand you want to use that same target in a bubblegum fashion on a Texas Windmill. How many times have you seen five bad guys spinning around in circles on a ferris wheel? And the "shooting challenge" argument just won't wash. Either you want all challenges to be realistic or not. If realism doesn't matter then the headless target is just as legitimate.
  9. FWIW, after asking another question about revolvers at the IPSC forum, I asked about the legality of the revolver in this thread, and the ruling from Vince Pinto was "No, firstly because the holes drilled through the underlug are not a standard feature of the gun, hence it is a prototype. Secondly, the holes are not one of the modifications permitted under Point 19 of the RSD rules.". You can see it here http://ipsc.invisionzone.com/index.php?sho...indpost&p=36136
  10. This is weird coz the M&P and the XD are on the IPSC list http://www.ipsc.org/proddiv.php and they say the Shadow is "under evaluation". I thought the USPSA list was the same as the IPSC list with a few USPSA additions but now it looks like there are many differences. I was thinking about getting one of the new Taurus 24/7 guns, but they are only approved by IPSC not USPSA. What gives?
  11. I had a similar problem at a match in Canada earlier this year, and the RO referred me to IPSC rule 9.5.4.1 that covers this matter and I hope USPSA adopts the same rule.
  12. Why do you say IPSC Production is "Limited Light"? I've shot Production in Canada and the production rules there are way more restrictive than they are here, where you can change all the internals of a gun.
  13. But so are misses. This is why I say count EVERY shot or limit all possibilities to 2.
  14. We only count a maximum of two hits on a scoring target because it only takes two hits to neutralize it. Extra hits don't count. We only count a maximum of two misses on a scoring target because any less than two hits means you didn't neutralize it. Extra misses don't count though. This is why I think we only count a maximum of two hits on a hostage target because it only takes two hits to neutralize it. Extra hits also shouldn't count. If we don't count every shot fired no matter what happens to it, we should make the same limits apply to all possible outcomes.
  15. That'd work for me! I'm also +1 on the 2 NS thing so we don't have "No Shoot Madness" like this thread says!
  16. Your statement is probably more profound than you realize!
  17. This same subject was discussed at the IPSC forum last month and it all looks pretty clear to me now. http://ipsc.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=3129
  18. When I was still living in Canada, we had the minimum trigger pull and it worked great coz the IPSC rules didn't let you get trigger jobs done and it was the best way to keep people honest.
  19. I think I've flown with those pilots!!!!!!!
  20. If there wasn't a limit we'd be totally screwing the guys in Limited 10, revolver and production! Can you imagine trying to carry enough speedloaders to shoot a +50 round stage with a 6 round wheel-gun? You'd need to have a waistine like Fat Albert!
  21. From what I understand.. 1. Yes..if it is the Glock part that is on the G34 2. Yes..if it is the Glock part that is on the G34 eerw, are you sure about that? The rules say no external mods except sights. Remember the big thing about the Yanek trigger job being banned coz of the bit that stuck out of the frame? Isn't this the same??
  22. I was wondering the opposite - becoming a "grandbagger". Someone could shoot the same six classifiers over and over and over again until he makes GM for bragging rights, but he can't make the GM cut at a match.
  23. Don't kill me if I've missed something but how come the Top 20 in Production Division list shows a guy called Olhasso as a Grand Master with 93% but there are two Master graders with higher percentiles? Shouldn't the M guys be upgraded? Ditto for other guys in Limited 10.
