  1. update. had a chance to shoot the gun today. Bad news. still shoots low, but now it shoots left. At 10 yards, it shot about 3" left of aim when the rear sight is centered. . i thought it was me, so after i had moved the sight to compensate, which caused the rear to be hanging slightly off the slide, i had two other shooters shoot it,and they confirmed that it does indeed shoot left. Before the new barrel, with the oem barrel, it shot straight, but low. this is very dissapointing.
  2. About 20 years ago i broke my trigger finger. after it healed i did not notice much that it had healed at an angle when it its bent because i was not into shooting as much as i am now. lots of guns i shoot, shoot left. could be a lot or a little. i suspect that this is due to my finger no longer moving straight back, but at angle. i am feeling it hurts my shooting. i know i should see a speciallist for this, but i thought i would throw this out to get some input. So can this problem be fixed by breaking it again, and setting it at a different angle? kinda like people that get a broken nose, and fix it by breaking it again. I know this sounds crazy, but if it can be done, i really might consider it.
  3. the target are licensed also. i think if you use the target in a for profit match, it best be an IDPA match.
  4. i have loaded thousands of round with a combo like yours. Are you using the seating die as a seating die only? with the final crimp dies, that the way it seems to work best. adjust the intial adjustment as they say in the instuctions, then back off the die a full turn. then adjust the knob to seat to the depth u want. this should take 75% of the bell out, but the round will still not chamber, but will hold in the bullet. then to the FCD. adjust it as per instruction and use it as the final crimp die. adjust the crimp till it measures about .375-377 via the knob. this should take care of everything. the ring you see is usually due to variations in case length. so basically station 4 seats only and 5 does the final crimp. also, if you lube you cases you should find things smooth out quite a bit.
  5. why do you want to go to the trouble of getting a new beavertail. just pin it in and its good. i like the Ed brown safety as it contacts the thumbs early and lift it up. i would always feel funny using the stock one as i have small hands. Get the thumb safety and see if it feels different
  6. if IDPA is losing shooters, i have not seen it, at least in my area. It goes up and up. last match we had 70 + shooters. Even a few USPSA shooters came out to slum with us. You see, this month there will be only 3 outdoor matches combined for IDPA and USPSA in an area of million people. people are going crazy sitting at home and want to shoot. what i have found is that IDPA is the gateway drug for people, if they decide later to go to USPSA and 3 gun. IDPA is more receptive of new shooters in my experience. IDPA is a game, and should be treated as such. Same as the others.
  7. Ed brown wide safety. be careful when fitting it on the right side though. only remove enough on the tang to allow free movement of the safety. remove too much and it will loosen with use
  8. buy some regular 40 sw ammo and see if it works in the gun. many 2011's will work with both the regular and long length ammo. if it runs with the regular ammo, its the ammo.
  9. shoot the gun, and see where it hits. measure the sight on there now and figure out which one will work better. sometimes, depending on the gun and bullet grain used, a .160 will work better. bottoming out is not a big deal as long as it hits where you want it too. too high a rear cranked up can cause problems with the rear sight breaking due to sight bouncing on recoil.
  10. Got mine back today, er yesterday. the barrel looks good. one of things that i like they fixed on mine with the new barrel is that it now will take longer bullets. i used to have to load some bullets shorter than usual due to the lead in original barrel being short. this new barrel does not have this issue. the new barrel also is tight like it was when new. takes a little effort for it to lock and unlock which goes away with use. going to install the Dawsons back on it and take it to the range this weekend. hopefully, if i am lucky, this barrel will shoot higher than the original one. Happy New year to all
  11. Production hardest.. you need to have good reloads, scored minor and a good plan. Limited for starters. just need to concentrate on shooting mostly. Can be run minor or major. Open for the fun. just put dot an pull trigger. SS, not enough competition most of the time to be interesting.
  12. Correct. But tis a courtesy, and not a requirement to give such a warning. Its up to the SO if he wishes to do so.
  13. one thing that i have found is the courtesy of yelling " cover" not used consistantly. Some So's do it all the time. some never. I actually prefer the latter as i consider it the shooters responsibilty to make sure they are behind cover. So do you do a courtesy cover notice? do you as a shooter prefer it, or not.
  14. i have a freind that uses 147gr AA ammo exclusively. looking at his gun from the soot that is left on the front after shooting, it reminds me of what i get when i used to reload with Bullseye powder.
  15. So did the new barrel change the impact higher??? if you have a strong magnet, you might be able to find the spring. if not, email GP and maybe they might send you one. Supposedly mine should be back next week
  16. do you intend to reuse the oe sight?make sure you are clamping it into a sturdy vise. any movement will prevent transfer of force. if you have a heat gun, heat it up to help separate the slide and the sights. then try using the punch again. if you don't intend to keep the sight, you can cut it put carefully with a dremel if desired. just cut it in half and almost to the bottom. hit it hard and it will crack in two
  17. Take the ones that can be pressed in. see if they are the same headstamp. Take that one and use it as the basis for measuring your crimp. 9mm brass varies a lot in thickness, and using the thinnest brass as the setup brass sometimes helps to solve these isssues
  18. you might just need a little more crimp. i crimp mine a .419
  19. if you can find someone with a Lee factory crimp die, put it through it and see if it will work.
  20. I found this every once in a while when loading heavy 9mm deep. what seemed to be happening was i was compressing the load and the pressure from the powder when it went through the crimp die would make the bullet "pop" out. did not do it all the time so i figured out it was a combo of the depth, brass, powder charge.
  21. i have 1 3/4 # trigger on my edge. took a little getting used to it , but now going back to other guns with a heavier trigger, it seems strange sometimes. under !# seems a little light to me though. Great for a bullseye gun or olympic guns, but those are shot static.
