  1. When I first switched from Glock to CZ, I did probably 5000 rounds on a SP01 Shadow w/o touching at all the extractor, no cleaning, no oil. That's about how long totally ignored it took to gunk up behind the extractor enough to make extractor stop working. (Of course removing, cleaning crud out of the caked up channel, good as new now). Now on extractor I use non-clorinated brake cleaner occasionally to flush channel out, and work lube in when cleaning and no issues there. Cool tip on the Acetone, thanks brisix! My totally cleaned and lubed Czechmate will start to occasionally misfeed/fail at about 200 rounds if I don't wipe the crud off the barrel feed ramp (9 Major with auto comp and MG RN, CZ Custom followers and springs in mags with extended baseplates). So I just stick my finger in there and wipe ramp off every couple stages. Might be the CZC followers/spring/extension combo, as with stock followers (totally stock mag / no extension) seems to run fine 400 rounds or so until generally gun seems to want more lube. (still getting a handle on everything here)
  2. I dunno - I think I've seen one SP-01 Shadow that was stock / $800, and it sold in about 1/2 hour. The others are either some variant of Custom or Target or Accu-Shadow ($1300-1700+), or just plain CZ75 Shadow (short dust cover) which is great but not as desirable for USPSA vs long dustcover SP-01 Shadow. But could be I haven't been watching close enough.
  3. I had taken a break, but plan on getting back to this next month - my estimate is end of January for public release, I'll revise as I know more in a week or so, thx!
  4. I love the description on the Lucas Gun Oil : "Developed to prevent jamming and over-heating in large machine guns and high caliber rifles. Great for recreational hand gun enthusiast. Lucas Gun Oil is designed to stand up to the high combustion temperatures of machine guns. It also totally protects against moisture and is completely odorless. It resists evaporation and drying during long term storage." Relative to everything else gun related, this stuff is cheap, I bought a case so then I'm never short oil/container for any of the too many gun bags I have. And when I'm somewhere when I've forgotten it, I just head to the auto parts store and grab another :-)
  5. Pismo Beach is also not far away, and options also with 'vacation' rentals: http://www.coastalvacationrentals.net, FWIW, if SLO gets filled up.
  6. I bought a stock SP-01 Shadow from CZ Custom about November 2013. Just after that, it disappeared from CZ-USA's online site for 2014, but didn't get moved to the discontinued section on their site. And I haven't seen anyone U.S. have stock since then until that batch of 'Shadow' roll marked SP-01 Shadows that CZ Custom just had. My guess was that they all go to CZ Custom and Automatic Accuracy to get turned into custom builds or Accu-Shadows? Those would be the two places I'd start as far as looking for a new unmodified one, seeing if they'd let you get on a wait list or if any free up / extra from allocation for custom builds, assuming they get complete ones and not parts.
  7. Welcome Jack! One nice option is just up the hill from you at Chabot Gun Club in Castro Valley, you can do private lessons with John Maunder the Rangemaster. He can work with you on marksmanship fundamentals - stance, grip/recoil control, sight picture and a safe draw. Go to ( http://chabotgunclub.com/classes/) for contact info (their page on private instruction not working just call them and tell them what you are interested in).
  8. As an update, Matt said he's been watching this and a new batch would probably happen after the holidays.
  9. The LPA sight won't fit w/o milling the slide, you have a shadow cut, while the LPA sight is LPA cut like on the tactical sport: http://czcustom.com/czsightcuts.aspx Places to look at rear sight alternatives for your shadow cut - http://czcustom.com - http://cajungunworks.com/sights_and_sight_sets.html Or you could send your slide to CZ custom and have them mill it for the LPA cut, and install the LPA sight. The LPA sight does have a smaller notch than the stock shadow rear, and its fully adjustable while being low to the slide. I had the LPA cut done on my accu-shadow, then when my LPA sight broke I actually went with a Caspian LPA rear sight to get a slightly larger notch :-)

    Czechmate Frame/TS Slide

For something like this, can the Czechmate slide (bare or complete) be ordered to rebuild to open configuration if desired?
  11. If you are handy, you can buy the parts and do the work yourself. - the competition hammer makes for a nicer SA - extended firing pin helps ignite primers with lighter springs - short reset disconnector makes the SA pull a true joy in conjunction with everything else, almost 1911 like - the rear sight is different, a little bit bigger blade area than the stock one - some polishing and refinements detailed elsewhere hear that help on performance and reliability For myself, the price difference is definitely worth it having someone else do the work by getting the custom, instead of me guessing/researching, for the first one. BTW, if you are doing any of the action pistol games (USPSA), it's worth it also to consider the SP01 Shadow / SP01 Shadow Custom instead for the heavier front end. But the shadow is a very nice gun.
  12. The Stock II 9mm is the main one folks want with the beefy cone lock barrel and full dust cover. The Stock III is nice, but it's a straight barrel and blued finish rather than hard chrome. I'm sure it will find a new home quickly though.

    New accushadow

Two 'special order' things to get direct from CZ Custom instead of DIY, if you want them - Slide milled for LPA sight (fully adjustable rear that sits low, vs HAJO that sits high on the slide) - Competition trigger, lowers DA pull at the expense of needing pretty much federal primers only ammo My first Accu I did both, and wouldn't change a thing on that gun (other than going with thin front sight which I did). My second Accu I did the standard 'custom' trigger that is with the Accu (good with any primers), and a fixed rear sight instead of HAJO (no wondering when/if rear sight might fail) If I could only pick one ... I don't know :-)
  14. http://www.calgunsfoundation.org/roster/ There was a work around that let us in CA get guns through dealers/from out of state that weren't on the CA 'safe handgun roster' -- that work around (SSE/Single Shot Exemption) goes away Dec 31, so folks digging in / buying against uncertain timeframe until restrictions on what we can buy goes away.
  15. CZ Custom has been hustling getting AccuShadows and such done for folks in CA before our window closes end of year, on top of normal order volume. Hopefully when you are ready after the other stuff, the queue wait time might be shorter.
  16. The trigger is the 85 Combat trigger that would come on the stock SP-01 Shadow. Since you are not starting with one already, you can get the old or new style: http://czcustom.com/cz85combattriggershadow.aspx http://czcustom.com/CZ85Combattrigger.aspx
  17. Excellent, OK, we are at: YES: 11 trgt: 3 Armin G: 5 rack&roll: 1 JDD817: 1 Bruce: 1 MAYBE: 2 cjfung10: 1 BeerBaron: 1
  18. Take colored duct tape, say green or yellow, and cut some shapes out that go on bottom / top of each, and small stripe you put on edge of handle. Now all yours are obviously yours, and it's something that won't just fall off like a strap. I have orange colored handle wraps that worked also.
  19. Its cheap insurance .. I picked up several of the Tanfoglio pattern when John coordinated that, and I've not been sorry I had extra. If you think you want one, maybe you really want two ;-)
  20. I am so late to this party - hope something good left!
  21. Thanks jdd817! Interest list to buy now at YES: 7 MAYBE: 1
  22. Its very low cost insurance to have one, not hard to sell at some point later if you feel you must, but hard to get now since not a fast mover for Matt, so if you think you might need one, you should get one :-) So with Bruce we are up to 6, and a new 'maybe count that Chis started with 1 (unless you move to 'yes' Chris, let me know).
  23. Nice rack&roll! I'll also bump my commit from two to three, I'm sure I'll want (to try) to clone whatever John does this spring ... So we're 1/3 of the way there with 5 !
  24. I'm not a gunsmith, so take the answer with that in mind - grit was more like 400 or something on sandpaper, using to take material off for fit. 1000 would polish it, not remove much material, you could do that after filing or sanding. - if you clamp the left leg of the safety in a vice with soft jaws / leather, etc, that can hold the piece stable for you. Alternately you can clamp the file and move the piece across it. Main thing is trying to apply even pressure across face of the flat so it it stays parallel to centerline of shaft and keeping the flat at the same angle, not more pressure outward or forward which can change seated position to be more forward or outward. Just saying that was what I did, would love to hear if better way for home non-gunsmith to tackle
