  1. Started collecting over 40 years ago.....for some reason focused on 1897 Winchester shotguns...mostly military......loved riots and trench guns.......simply can not afford to buy any more.....the prices have skyrocketed on genuine guns....a two sided sword....
  2. I did a ladder test with N320...and Xtreme 147 HP........started at 3.0 to 3.6 grains with a 2011 9 mm It was very interesting....3.0-3.2 would run ok but seemed slow on the slide.....on the other end 3.6 had a noticeable effect on recoil and getting back on target. The choreograph told my actual story.....3.5 was the safest load to insure Minor power factor. Shooting the 3.0-3.3 was fun...just my experiences.........I do love the N320 .......hope this makes some sense!
  3. On my 650 the best additions....Uniquetek micro powder adjustment, foam roller handle cover ( a must have!) and the spent primer hose system ( another must have)..... I also installed the replacement ball and bearing.....honestly never saw any major change from them Also got a magnetic LED sewing light on Amazon.....perfect!!!
  4. Thank you all for the informative responses.....OCD can be a frustrating complex when hand loading ......
  5. Second the N320......what are you " crimping " your rounds???
  6. Received my boss hanger from Bens store last week ...simple to install and adjust.....locktite everything !!!!!! If you are using a 2011 model make sure you order the 3/4" spacers....simply will not work with the shorter ones. I was shipped the wrong spacers.....Ben's store sent me the correct ones N/C....that's all I can ask...very satisfied with everything I've purchased from Stoegers place.........
  7. Any experiences with Brazo's custom or tuned 2011's? Is it worth the additional cost for the upgraded model with the trigger, extractor tuning etc. The true custom Limited is a little beyond my budget....but I'm comparing these to Dave Dawson's modified models....thanks in advance!!
  8. I've been using a set I had made at a gun show........so far so good.....my ear doctor suggested if I continue to use them on a regular basis to purchase some lubricant folks with hearing aids......it works great and prevents irritation in the ear......my experiences.....
  9. Well keeping the N320 ball going.......I broke down and purchased my own chronograph.....yikes. I'm attempting to shoot 9 mm Limited MInor. Last month I tried my " ladder load" with the chronograph. Using Xtreme 147 HP over N320 , I loaded 3.3,3.4,3.5 and 3.6 I'm my attempt. Got some interesting results. The 3.5 by far was the best load.....consistently 900 FPS ...lm under the impression that this will give me ample room to ensure making Power factor. The 3.4 was very inconsistent and the 3.6 was running 925 FPS pretty consistently . So I've settled on sticking with the 3.5 load for my STI Edge........now the question...my highs and low averages were acceptable with this load ??, but I was showing a Deviation of 25 ......what is acceptable to make sure I make Minor and how can I reduce this fluxuation........I'm pretty OCD with my reloading process...... Perhaps I should have started another topic.....hope this makes sense to you really smart guys....thanks for all your help.......
  10. Thanks guys!!...I would guess I'm about 20K loaded...it just seemed 2 would go in such short order. And yea, I got spares of spares of Dillon parts....Murphy's Law lives in my loading room......full time! Love this darn press....as I'm sure you folks will attest....once you get your Karma down about operating this machine it's a pleasure to run.....cranked out 2K this weekend...other than some crap brass I got from a friend...I was cookin'
  11. I've popped 2 E clips off my de-primer die in the last 2 batches of 9 mm......never happened before.. I pre sort my brass prior to loading and have never run into this before. I replaced the pin yesterday when it happened again...so far so good. It was a run of 500 rounds....any suggestions?? Thanks!
  12. mjohn.....some very good shooters , who opinions I respect , told me HP are a more accurate round for competition. That being said...I am simply not that good of a shooter to tell the difference ......just being honest . I got hooked on Xtreme 147's and , after trying multiple other brands, never left. I alternate between the RN. And the HP...mostly HP out of habit and setting up,the press.......lol.
  13. Sorry to keep this going....Loaded some Xtreme 147 RN last weekend , instead of the usual HP, and noticed a much smaller deviation in COL than the HP......I must admit , I was pretty impressed with the consistency ....but I like the HP's.......fun facts to know and tell......Thanks again for the input!!!!
  14. Thank you to all........scrapped 'em.......another lesson learned about shortcuts!!?.........
  15. After much delay....if finally ordered a set of Rudy Project shooting glasses....they are essentially reverse bi-focals with the near vision correction on top. The good : front sight crystal clear...targets out to a reasonable distance acceptable The bad....useless with a long gun...the optics are totally out of wack. I would go the same route again..trying to stay focused on the front sight........
  16. Any one ever heard of this brass.Or a 9mm with an 11 (eleven) on the face??. I was running low on cleaned brass so I got 4K from a local guy. This is half 9mm FM marked. Having a hell of a time with primers....they are really difficult to remove and then accept a new primer. Using a 650 and never encountered a mess like this.Is the a Berdine sp primer?? Lesson learned.....up to this misadventure I always sorted by headstamp and condition before cleaning....this is What I deserve from breaking the routine.......also a lot of strange assorted 9/10 in this batch...was told they were sorted......but they were extremely clean.....lol
  17. Any one had experience with Stoegers BOSS metal holster bracket???.....looks like a well though out drop system.........thanks.
  18. Dillon is an especially well run Corp......not only do they provide , perhaps, the best hand loading equiptment available...but the service is second to none. I have used the service on multiple occasions and always satisfied. I had problems with an older 650 that simply would not go away. I sent then the press , less dies, and they sent me a completely new unit....how many American companies stand behind their products like this????......Damn impressed!!!!,......And Brians package deals are excellent!!!
  19. Thanks to all ...some of us who did not read the other articles appreciate the input.........now , out of curiosity , will check the new box I'm getting ready to open for variations ........appreciated...
  20. I concur on the 650...... Best investment I've made.......I strongly recommend the case feeder, crazy not to have one, powder alarm, many extra primer tubes. Refilling primer tubes is the downside to this process . As suggested by a poster here I have a total of 10 tubes now , as to keep on loadin'. I would defiantly NOT suggest a bullet feeder. I don't have enough confidence in the system to lose control with one. I still get,the occasional wrong brass down the tube . Or bad primer seating. I like to feel the process with the handle....it will defiantly tell you is something is amiss...... Once completely set up.....you should crank out 400-500 of 9mm an hour.......just my opinions...
  21. I'm loading 147 Xtreme HP 9 mm in my 650. I'm noticing a deviation of my overall length from 1.147-1.153........ My goal was 1.150 ...is this variation due to brass, operator error, inability to read calipers..lol ......any experiences ..am I being to fussy about measurements..........Thanks
  22. I have an STI 9mm edge....I am experiencing brass being ejected in my face and glasses. I reload all my rounds and have increased the powder charge ( Vih N320) to help eliminate the problem. This problem is inconsistent ...but is taking its toll on my Rudy glasses. I've tried both 9 and 10 lb. recoil springs as well. My first large run of reloads were 3.4 / 3.5 grns. of 320 using Xtreme 147 HP. My COL is 1.14 The 3.5 load makes Minor power factor consistently . Should I continue to increase powder to 3.6 to try to eliminate the brass problem??....... Other than this hassle the pistol performs perfectly. Any thoughts or experiences greatly appreciated.....I'm not smart enough to mess with ejectors and extractors...lol
  23. Started at 59.........my wife inquired why would you become involved in a sport where your skill ability diminishes every year. I thought that was certainly a valid point. I enjoy this type of competition because it required me to get a whole new skill set.....on many levels. Since stating , I now reload all my own 9 mm ammo and shoot a lot !!!!... The only negative I'm finding is the physical aspect is taking its toll...I'm simply not as fast or agile as I was at 40 .....however I just slow down and work around the pains ........it's a great sport!!!??
