  1. Thanks for the input.....I still have 6000+- 147 to,use......I am going to make an effort to,try some Montana Gold 147 cjm a,friend gave me with same charge and dimensional specs and see what develops!! Thanks again!!
  2. I sort all my 9 mm by headstamp prior to cleaning . I really have no way to check what brass might be causing the problem. My crimp of .378 has not deviated ..... Curious.....what brands of pistol brass are you satisfied with......and what will you NOT load.......thanks in advance.
  3. STI Edge.......there is no deviation in this run of loads....
  4. I'm using Xtreme 147 HP, my cleaned brass, CCI primers and Vih N320 powder. I've loaded literally thousands of these 147's and my last run I'm seeng an abnormal amount of " tumbling " bullets on paper. Nothing , except a small deviation on powder charge...has changed . Crimp at .378 and all other specs the same . Anyone experience this.....I know the discussion about plated bullets....but I've probably shot 7-8k of these Xtremes and maybe never noticed this before ....but it's really obvious . Thanks for any thoughts...............Happy New Year to all !!!!!!!!!
  5. I also use both methods.....I dry tumble may pistol brass primed. I process a fair amount of brass and I think I've got the mixes down. I use a good dry media and never have a dust problem. I S/S process all my rifle brass. I deprime all rounds prior to cleaning. With Dawn/Lemishine the results are nothing sort of amazing. The down side...I think it's a very messy process and all the brass MUST be lubed prior to loading. My first load of S/S pistol brass was a disaster ........brass was so "clean" it hung up on the dies .......lesson learned . Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year.
  6. Jack, I believe most American customers have become very "jaded" when having issues with warranties that aren't worth a tinkers damn. Between the fine print and additional costs incurred for servicing a product...I'm as disappointed as the next guy when dealing with a majority of companies. So when one has an incredible experience with Dillon they are so pleasantly suprised , they feel the need to tell someone. I am in that group....I've had several amazing experience with Dillon employees and never cease to be satisfied with the company. In a new age where everybody is bitchng about something.......I find it refreshing that people compliment a company and are satisfied with not only the product .....but the follow up service as well........yawn on Jack!!
  7. My apologies!!.......in my golden years I can't distinguish between 1911 and 2011.......All my success stories were with a 140 9mm 2011 magazine.......forget everything I said...........Except Happy Hoildays...Christmas is this month isn't it ?????
  8. Thanks to all...unfortunately I load in my basement...so I have drafts, a fan blowing , a refrigerator running, and of course fluorescent lights.....yikes...I'm screwed ....lol I'm sticking with the initial reading as my benchmark....I wish I was smart enough to convert grams to grains for a more accurate reading ...oh well........Happy Holidays to all!!!!!!!
  9. I purchsed Dawson's mag tuning kit....here's my review. I have 10 9mm STI mags with Dawson guts and factory base pads. Slowly replacing them with Dawson metal pads. The kit has everything you need to maintain your mags......watch Daves video at least 2 times before proceeding. It all make perfect sense!!!!.....of my 10 mags...2 were within spec. My understanding is the lip measurements mentioned in a prior post are NOT correct for a 9mm mag. I'm loading my 9's at COL of 1.15". Anyway the actual forming of the lips takes some practice..but if you close them a little to much the pliers are great for final adjustments. I cleaned and polished the mags, replaced and "trained" the springs as suggested. Unfortunately I ran out of new followers ...but I will replace them all next week. Some of the magazines were a bit€£ to remove from the forming tool..I used a little silicone spray to help lube it. It was an interesting side note about Daves theory about "training " your new springs. After completion all the mags , except one, preformed perfectly. One stubborn mag will not hold slide in lock when empty. I hope this is an old follower problem. Sorry for rambling on.....but I found using his kit an interesting and rewarding experience. The video is excellent and a must see before attempting the actual tuning...........money well spent. Thanks to all that contribute to this site !!!!!!.....Happy Holidays....and be safe!!!!!!!
  10. I'm using a Dillon Electronic scale for my pistol loads. Last night I let a load sit on the scale for a couple of minutes I noticed a fluxuation in the read out. I'm trying to to get a 3.5 measurement and the read out went from 3.5 then 3.3/3.4. Is this normal??. I normally just use the initial read out as my gauge ......any experiences with this....I used it plugged in and on battery. Final question....when I put the enclosed weight on the scale to check calibration I get a 3 digit 49.99 read out...why don't I get the same read out with a charge on the scale ....just wondering.....Thanks in advance....just trying to figure this stuff out..........
  11. Sarge, accurate in general....I wasn't even using my timer while shooting theses Winchesters. There was a substantial difference in the 2 rounds.i was literally blowing the target centers out at 7/10 yards...maybe 3-4 fliers out of 200 rounds!! I was hoping for some suggestions as to improvements I could make to my 147 HP load to perhaps parrot the quality and accuracy of the Wincherter White Box........I never though I would hear those words come out of my keyboard.........Thanks
  12. I had the exact same problem on station1....I had to reach in and adjust the brass as to properly align it with the shell plate and the die. What a pain.....my solution...I got a new 9 mm shellplate...adjusted it properly...and the adjusted the die as close to the shell plate as possible without actually making contact. This seems to have solved my problem...don't ask me why. I clean the shellplate on a regular basis and make sure my brass does not have extractor damage from previous firing. Please let us know how you solve your problem....it was a major pai there for awhile. One nice thing about the 650...... You gotta "feel " it...it will defiantly tell you if something is amiss.....and I believe I've done some stuff to create my own problems......keep us posted!!!
  13. I shoot an STI Edge 9 mm. I have been reloading for this pistol for over a year and put possibly 10K rounds throughout it. My load is an Xtreme 147 HP with 3.5-3.6 grains of Vih N320 as a charge. I've experimented with different loads , bullets , 3 different powders, and even different range brass. We were at the range today and I finished all my hand loads and a friend said " look I've got 400 Winchester white box 115 you can try. Well I was absolutly amazed.....I was shooting the most accurate drills ever. It seemed at 7/10 yards I could not miss. It seemed to be a good snappy load, excellent sight recovery and more than acceptable recoil. I have never shot new factory Ammo through this pistol. What in the world am I doing wrong with these 147 reloads I've shot thousands of ???????? I load to 1.15 +- COL and a taper of .378.. My loads are 99% reliable, which I'm very pleased with, but nothing like these White Boxes for accuracy. I shoot a lot of Ammo , and really love the gun and the sport......is it possible to stay with these147's and modify my load to match the Winchesters?......I got a load of these 147 HP's on hand. Thanks in advance....I'm perplexed to say the least !!.....sorry to ramble on......
  14. I'm a bit confused with this tread !!......As I'm understanding this, you have a brand new STI Edge that you are not satisfied with. The trigger, magazine, whatever. Upon contacting STI.....you were told you were going to have to pay for the repair and it would be 6 weeks before a the repaired pistol, was returned to you . Perhaps there is a little more to this scenario ...........
  15. Good post!!....l sort all my brass by headstamp , keep7-8 primer tubes filled, machine clean, plenty of clean brass. After a year and many rounds , I believe I'm getting some of this stuff figured out. My only hiccup now is an occasional dam on the case feeder where the brass drops into the tube....still can't explain this. .380's are my nemesis .............Happy Thanksgiving to all you helpful folks.....this is an educational forum.....and on occasion pretty darn funny!!!!!!
  16. Am I missing something here?......are we assuming that theses 650's do not use the Dillon powder alarm???? I don't see how it is possible to double charge any pistol round with a properly adjusted powder monitor !! Is a slow study so don't poke fun if I miss the obvious.......happy Thanksgivng to all!!!!!!!
  17. Whatever it's worth.....when I tries Stainless Steel cleaning on my 9 mm , I found the brass was so clean they were hanging up on the dies. I did not want to mess around with lubing pistol brass and having to reclean....back to dry tumble with mix of Flitz and Dillon case polish...seems ok......just my experience....for rifle brass S/S is absolutly amazing!!!!!..after deprimed that is....lol!
  18. I don't know if this falls under mental or physical conditioning ......it seems the older I getting the longer its taking me to "warm up". At the end of a range session I'm noticeably better than the start.......old age perhaps????
  19. What are your opinions on the setting of the depriming die in position 1 on a 650. I saw an article, where the writer suggested tightening the die down until it actually made contact with the shell plate. His reasoning was when the plate is in the up position you have a consistent pressure on the plate in all stages. In theory this seems to make sense in tightening up my COL with no fluxuation in the plate while loading. As I recall my manual said to tighten the die until it contactsmthenshell plate then back it off a specific distance. Any thoughts???.......Thnaks in advance......my goal is to reduce the deviation in my COL wit 9 mm 147 Xtreme HP.
  20. Has anyone heard of mixing hard white rice with your walnut/corn media ? Friend says he has had good results...I've never heard about it before....any experiences? Thanks in advance.
  21. I also use a custom set I got at a local gun show ....work fine. My ear doctor said to use the hearing aid lubricant on my plugs....a must. Prevents ear irritation and forms a better seal on the ear......
  22. I need some advice on running powder tests on my 650. Any suggestions on how to stop the case feeder and primer disc from working while measuring powder loads. It seems to be a chore to remove the empty case from Stage one and then watching primers drop in the chute!! I always run multiple test loads on my powder before starting a run and know, there has to be a better way. Thanks in advance!!
  23. +1 on keeping the primer punch TIGHT!!!......was driving me crazy...checked everything...called Dillon....problem solved...periodically check the nut and clean your primer assembly regularly.....interesting how dirty it gets.......
  24. I hope this is the correct venue for my question. I'm loading 9 mm 147grn. Xtreme HP over N320. I finally purchased my chronograph to actually figure out the corrolation between making Minor power factor and my various loads. My question is .....my deviation on the multiple strings I tested were running between 7-30. My last batches were showing a deviation of 7-13. Can someone explain this situation to me ????.....my last several loads made Minor with a little to spare. Sorry if this is a dumb question ......but what accounts for such a sever spread, what are acceptable ranges, and how can I correct this......Thanks in advance!!!!!
  25. Irdchaos.......sorry I missed something.....what did you purchase?
