  1. The Dawsons work well. Though i did need a 3lb sledge hammer to get the front site out. Sit pusher couldn't do it. Vised up the slide, used a little oil, brass punch and just let the hammer drop. Came out like Spam in a can. The Dawsons needed a little adjustment with a fine file but went in well. They are tall, but work well.
  2. I think it never hurts to bring up a potential safety problem. I've seen many reloads where the gun is angled up and brought in close, only with the muzzle pointing right at the competitors head...... maybe this is what he saw from his angle. I never question someone elses judgment while on the range on a safety call. Itf they saw it, i believe 'em....The possible end result of being negligent are well, unthinkable. I wouldn't call someone like that a Nazi...only someone who has your best possible interest in mind.
  3. My stainless Springfield 1911 no longer galls. The action is much smoother and it tightened the pistol up quite a bit.
  4. Its about 4 inches... But the only real way is to remove your eyeball and get an 'accurate' reading. If you've ever had a head x-ray you can use that to measure. They are after all your records. Not that i've ever had my head examined.
  5. Add My GF T.O. to the Mix, she'll be along as well. C'Ya Friday.
  6. Brownells has a nice supply of springs that are extra power.
  7. Exactly what Lpatterson said. Plus Clays makes for a good minor load in .40 if you have one.
  8. The human body is designed to convert rotating movement in linear progression. When twisting, with your feet planted, your primary movers are the spinal, posterior thigh and anterior thigh muscles..Quads, hamstrings, glutes, lower spinalis muscles. You are rotating on the subtalar joints of the foot. (The joint under your ankle joint) It is designed as a 'screw' With each joint a mirror image of the other. When twisting clockwise, your left foot will pronate (flatten) and your right will supinate (form more of an arch).. Counterclockwise, things go the other way. Think of you feet as precision bearings that allow the rotation. but you feel it in you hips and knees because those muscles that control those joints are the ones allowing the movement.
  9. I'm Gonna shoot my 625 4" This sunday.....I had to buy a 4"...I already had a nice 646 set up...not gonna shoot at major PF..... and a 25-2 and 625...but the barrels are too long. I have a nice load with 3.9 gr. Clays and a 230 moly bullet. I'll see how many i can get to shoot( wheel gunners, that is) BTW. We'll be having an IDPA Regional match here in Las Cruces, New Mexico come this August. FYI
  10. So I'm gonna take my 2000$ Limited gun and put a crappy 50$ worn out barrel in it???? Just for the sake of decreasing PF???
  11. I finally received my tactical journal yesterday... Read the article, found it a bit, ahem, whiney. Keep the rules as they are or IDPA will confuse a new generation of shooters and push away older ones.. The power factors are fine, leave em alone. When i first started shooting (IDPA) I witness alot of shooters using downloaded ammo in SSP and ESP....125 PF...Using 40's or 45's... I now beat these shooters on a regular basis with ammo that meets 165 PF. I shoot a single stack .40 in ESP.....because i can't shoot it in CDP.. and shoot it at 175 PF....It works for me...Same load i use in USPSA, i like how the gun tracks with it... I tried downloading to 140ish...hated it, the gun cyled too slow, and went back to full power ammo. One thing i've learned, its the shooter, not the gun or the ammo.
  12. Maybe at the matches that chrono, records will be kept. Those who are using PD ammo are still required to chrono, but are classified as major. The data is recorded, what gun was used, approx number of rounds thru the gun. Voila, we now have a database that PD can use to modulate their match ammo. Do it for a year and see what we have.
  13. I prep my trigger as i am coming out of reload position as i am pushing the gun out. I avoid having my finger near the trigger as i am seating a mag. That little blurp when you slam it in can get you DQ'ed. I think that is one of the reasons Steve Andersons book doesn't emphasize hitting the trigger during dry fire.
  14. What about resurrecting some of the older classifiers no longer used? I've gone through some shooter's classification history and some of the older ones look good. Not sure why they aren't used anymore.
  15. We went from 5 revolver shooters in our local clubs (IDPA) to just one per match after the rule changes. things were just starting to get going with revolver, and bammo, two divisions. Not worth it in my opinion.
  16. We all get lucky now and then. It helps being in the zone, when i am, my focus is 100%, i remember all of my shots on a stage and seeing my sights lift. For me it is focus on the task at had and how i will shoot the stage and staying with my plan. t The problem is consistently doing that from stage to stage. Good going. Confidence boosters help along with a slap back into reality now and then.
  17. Once you figure that our motor nerves conduct at velocities of right around 100m/s and that it takes about 4-5 milliseconds to polarize a nerve to fire...... That is right around 0.015-.025 seconds to just get the impulse to fire at your fingertip.... Sooo...Things are actually happening faster than what our body can actually produce......that where the brain comes in and the ability to 'know' what is going to happen. Visual acutity and decision making must be taking place in the thousands of a second... hmmmmmm. Though some of our motor nerves can fire at up to 300 m/s....That speeds that portion up a little more,
  18. I just had my Check card scammed for about a grand.... 5 local banks had accounts harvested and someone in Georgia had a really good time. In excess of 250K was taken.
  19. Our local club (which) is IDPA affiliated actually wrote in their By-Laws that USPSA shooting was not allowed. Never mind that this club only put on six IDPA matches a year, hosted local rifle, 3 gun, and CCW 'type' matches.... IN the CCW matches you could shoot your High cap limited gun as it was essentially 'anything goes'...though i never did show up with my Open gun.. The prior year the Execs held their elections, bypassing several of the clubs own bylaws (allowing proxy voting) and produced a 'member' list that was hereto never ever seen before. The club went downhill, with poor support from many of the members who saw through the sham, money has been wasted, a state level IDPA match was never held, even though it was promised... The members who saw what was happening to the club took action, and on election day...Wrote in their candidate, who wasn't of course on the ballot......and voila, the old guard had to step aside. Now the club is on the right track and is attracting members, though still not holding USPSA matches. There is a local USPSA club here in town, many of the shooters shoot both disciplines and don't complain. Another large club in town, has Cowboy, sillhouette, Bullseye. But won't even mention the other shooting sports in town. Even though many of us are members... Bullseye is held on a .....weekday....in the morning when most are still at work. They are proud to announce at their meetings that they had 3 shooters show up, and maybe 8 that shoot the sillhouette on any given month. Our USPSA shoots have 30+ shooters and the IDPA has at least 20 per month show up.... they don't like the 'run and gun' crowd'....So i've been told.
  20. In some of my guns, i can use as little as 3.6 gr. of Clays and make PF with a 230 moly bullet (RN) loaded at 1.250" I generally use 3.9 gr. Clays and easily make PF with a 230 gr. Bullets Moly...This gives me anywhere from 182 PF to 173 PF depending on the gun. I have also chronoed 230 JHP Rem Gold Saber and Speer 230 JHP Gold Dots with the same powder charge and ended up with 172 PF out a Wilson CQB 5"" With a 200 gr. LSWC (moly) i only need to go to 4.1-4.3 gr. Clays to make around 172 PF. I have not chronoed any jacketed SWC with this load. I hope this helps.
  21. I'll be there at 8pm (2000) C'ya then. Land and cattle co on Scott. Looking forward to it. Robert
