  1. With 4 barrel holes I get 167 PF with 8.8 grains in 3N38 with a 121 gr RN at 1.175. I was hoping to run 115's but it may be a totally full case or not leave enough room fro the chrono.
  2. Has anyone made 9mm major with 115 GR bullets and 3N38? If so, how many grains of powder were you running?
  3. Hi guys, I am able to find ballistics calculators that can tell me how much the vertical offset of the scope affects POI at various distances, but how do I determine how much the horizontal offset of the amount affect windage at various distances? Any help would be appreciated.

I have this same problem and cannot get the Big Sticks to run. I'd love to see some pictures of the modification you have done. Even the 140mm mags with CZ internals are only reliable holding 20 rounds. I think after 20, that the spring catches on the sides under the control ribs.
  5. I would say it depends on how serious you plan to be. 38 SC cases have a larger case capacity so you can use a slower burning powder and have a larger volume of gas. That works the comp better. How much better is the real question but a lot of matches are won and lost by very small percentages. With the trend of more ports in the barrels, some powders will not be able to make major in the 9mm. Most of the best Open shooters in the world run 38 SC. The big advantage of 9mm is the cost of the brass.
  6. Feel good. It's not like a night and day improvement but it does appear to stay flatter for at least one more frame than the stock design.
  7. Total rework of gun: Ported barrel DPM 3N38 New CZ barrel design Modified compensator Long flat firing pin stop .302 stroke
  8. As an interesting test today, I strapped 5 lbs of ankle weights to my arms today to see the effect on muzzle flip. It had zero performance gain when the slide hits the frame but it did dampen some of the oscillation that occurs when the slide goes back into battery. I wish I had a faster camera though. 240 FPS makes a lot of this analysis difficult to see.
  9. I had the gunsmith machine away space for the guide rod head on the barrel. He removed the minimal amount of material possible.
  10. I have two. One is 2012 and I believe the other one is 2010ish. CZ told me they put the new barrel design into production in the past year but I know for a fact that many of the old barrel designs were still shipping.
  11. CZ told me they evaluated both modifying the guide rod and modifying the barrel and decided it would be better to modify the barrel. I have yet to see evidence of one of these in the wild though. Can anyone who received a Czechmate with the new barrel design verify if they have modified the guide rod or barrel?
  12. Thanks! Have you run this barrel in your gun? I have a replacement barrel with the new design and discovered that the slide does not go fully into battery as the guide rod is binding on the tapered portion of the barrel. CZ says a relief needs to be machined to allow the guide rod to sit parallel to barrel in battery. It doesn't appear yours has anything machined into it.
  13. Unfortunately this thread is missing a view of where the guide rod rests on the barrel. I wanted to see if a new style barrel fitted by CZ has any cuts in the spot where the guide rod rests.
  14. Does anyone have a Czechmate with the new barrel design (extra material where slide stop goes through)? If so, could you please post a picture here so I can see if CZ had to machine where the guide rod sits. It appears the new tapered design does not allow the guide rod to sit parallel to the barrel when in battery and my gunsmith believes a slot needs to be cut. CZ doesn't have one in Inventory to look at. Thanks!
  15. How many rounds of major ammunition have you fired from your guns?
  16. Keep in mind that the shadow is built on the small frame so there is considerably less material in the block where the slide goes through and this area can crack. I would agree that you probably want to stick to minor rounds.
  17. I was lucky enough to shoot one a few days ago and took a slow motion video:
  18. Just as an FYI. I tried holding the gun as hard as a could and it does decrease muzzle flip significantly. I am starting up my hand gripper training again. With that being said, you would likely need a Ransom rest to properly test comps for a valid comparison. I think a lot of it boils down to feel and which comp allows you to track the dot the best. There are so many variables with springs, FPS, weight etc.
  19. Even with slide weight, recoil spring, etc all being equal (wich they are not) 1911/2011 design guns have a longer slide stroke. Every time I shoot my 1911 it initially feels slower cycling than my CZ. Absolutely. The stroke is much shorter. The old CZ gunsmith said the CZ design will cycle at 1200 RPM full auto which seems to line right up with my crude data. I have an STI and two Czechmates. In 9mm, the Czechmates feel softer and the trigger out of the box is much better. The grip size fits my hand better. The Czechmate is more accurate. The slide fits inside the frame which gets it lower and unlikely to be stopped by your thumb. The only downsides of the Czechmate are breakage in the barrel and slide stops (hopefully fixed by new barrel design) and less aftermarket support. They also don't offer 38 super. With an STI, you have hundreds of options for parts and caliber choices. With the CZ, you have CZ and CZ Custom.
  20. I would happily break slide stops in return for the barrel not breaking. Unfortunately, it seems that both are happening. I just got the new CZ barrel with extra meat at the front, so hopefully that will resolve the barrel breakage issue. Unfortunately, it appears that the barrel peanut needs to be fitted to the slide stop on the gun which isn't possible without a barrel blank. Right now, the slide stops show uneven wear.
  21. 7.4 g VV 3N37 under 121 grain bullet 6.8 g of Autocomp under 121 grain bullet The 3N37 is much cleaner and a little more consistent.
  22. I was lucky enough to meet reps from CZ at the Canadian Nationals two years ago. I also have had a couple of warranty claims. I find the breakage/spring setup confusing because we do not know if the slide stops are breaking going back when the barrel cams downward or when the slide comes back into battery. A heavier recoil spring would slow the slide under recoil but increase slide speed going back into battery. You also may be taking a couple of shots with a broken slide stop before you notice it which would also unevenly load of the barrel peanut. I shoot with an ex CZ factory gunsmith and he built his own gun with a more complicated spring system (similar to a DPM) and he cut his own barrel from a blank and fitted everything. As a result, his slide stop shows no uneven wear (unlike every Czechmate I have seen) and he has never broken a slide stop or barrel in over 10 years. I am now going to try the DPM system. It doesn't allow the slide to hit the frame under recoil but I don't think it does anything to help the initial camming of the barrel since the extra springs do not come into play until the slide almost hits the stops.
