  1. This thread has me a little freaked out. Three months ago, six of my friends and I drove through New York on our way to the S&W Winter Championship with an arsenal of firearms and ammunition. What would have happened if we were stopped by the police? I'm pretty sure the driver of our vehicle may have been speeding.
  2. What happens if you drop a loaded gun? I wasn't aware that it was legal in USPSA to disengage a safety feature on a handgun.
  3. I am very intrigued by this thread. I don't know the details of what happened, but I'm wondering if the following applies. From page 169 of the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection in the Home, 1st edition. The 1968 McClure-Volkmer Gun Owner's Protection Act exempts firearms owners who are transporting their arms interstate from the laws of such jurisdiction (as long as the gun owner is merely passing through the jurisdiction). The firearm should be locked in an inaccessible part of the vehicle. Although the federal Gun Owner's Protection Act overrides state and local law, in practice a gun owner may still be harassed or arrested by overzealous local law enforcement officials who don't know about the federal law.
  4. Mo, Thanks!! I went nuts trying to find this number. Chris
  5. I've always been surprised that there are people out there willing to shoot other peoples reloads all day long at the chrono.
  6. Mo, Do you have Mitchell's number or website? Thanks.
  7. I've been toying around with the idea of putting on a S&A auto ambi-mag catch: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/Pro...+AMBI-MAG+CATCH You can use your strong-hand index finger to release the mag. I met Bob Novak at the Single Stack Classic. He has a really nice reverse mag release made by a guy named Mitchell in Texas. It sells for around $120 and it was really nice. I've been searching Google and found an article from 3/1/05's American Hangunner. I think it's called the Mitchell Mag Masher, but I'm not sure.
  8. I flew to San Antonio a couple of years ago for the Fiesta Regionals. I had a great time shooting at the River City Shooters Club. Even though it is God Dang hot down there, I really like Texas!!! The only problem was the Taco Cabana.
  9. Twice so far, when I've had a problem with one of my 1911's, Benny has taken the time to solve the problem over the phone- free of charge. Benny is a good guy!
  10. Extreme Engineering is planning to produce a bobbed hammer.
  11. Extreme Engineering hammer, sear and disconnector titanium strut and mainspring cap C&S oversized hammer and sear pin C&S trigger
  12. I just put in an ISMI 17# mainspring. I had several light strikes at the range. I'm sticking with the 19#er and never looking back.
  13. We had a really nice couple move in across the street. They're clean cut, drive a BMW and they're always polite. They practically live at their church so I had no reason to suspect anything was wrong. Then one night my wife and I are watching television when the Channel 5 News sticks their camera in my neighbors face asking him why he's a registered sex offender working with children. YES! He's a youth counselor. There were a bunch of kids in the background on t.v. My wife and I looked him up on the database- victim under 13! It's sickening to learn how many of these freaky sex perverts are living amongst us.
  14. I've been through this. I think the best solution would be to buy a Briley aluminum guide rod. That will trim off an ounce- assuming you're shooting a FLGR. Also, when I was playing around with weight, I noticed a huge difference with different grips. Play around with those and you'll lose another .3 ounces. I wouldn't recommend the S&A aluminum magwell. The aluminum is unusually soft. I'm not happy with it. I wished I would have tried something else, but it will save you a lot of weight. (If I remember correctly, it's something like 1.7 oiunces lighter than a regular steel S&A magwell). Good luck! It's a pain in the ass.

    Hernia

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. What kind of hernia do you have? PM me if you need some help. I fix these for a living.
  16. I have just heard that we are going to a Saturday only format. There are 10 spots left. Good luck. I am going to give up my place for someone who will be able to make it to the match. I'm on-call the entire week, and I don't want to risk any last minute change of plans and screw someone out of the chance to shoot the match. This club is my home. These are my friends. I hate not being able to shoot this match. Chris
  17. I did begin this exercise with dry fire before going to the range. I should have spent some time doing it in the dark before going hot. Great point Duane! I still think it was someone elses fault though.
  18. The SO didn't follow the rules. Letting that SO run other shooters through that course of fire is a lot like letting a driver that's nodding off at the wheel keep driving because they're awake now.
  19. A few days before going to Smith & Wesson, another shooter and I went to the range to do some practice in the dark. I had an AD. It really freaked me out. This is how it happened. I'm right-handed. I had my timer set on random. I activated my timer, waited for the beep and drew my pistol. I had my flashlight stowed in my vest pocket (something I hadn't practiced before, but I knew that was how it was going to be at the match so I wanted to practice it that way). As my weak hand came up to the gun, my weak hand index finger hit the trigger. The gun went off, my flashlight went to the ground and I instantly felt a freakish feeling. It wasn't a match, the other shooter with me was working the lights on the range and wasn't right beside me, but I felt that if I made one mistake during that session, why take a chance that it could happen again. What had happened? Was I fatigued? Who knows. I just think that anyone involved in an AD, regardless of what percentage of blame you place on them, needs to call it quits for the day. The other shooter with me packed up her things too. We were done!! Yes, I strongly believe the SO needed to take the rest of the day off.
  20. ABSOLUTELY YES!! I've thought about that day many times. The car was at an angle. You could engage the targets through the window. The 180 was tight. And in order to safely maneuver around to the front of the car, you had open the door, get out, raise your gun over the door, shut it and then move forward. It had everything to do with how the car was positioned in relation to the crowd and the targets.
  21. I shot at an IDPA match in Indiana a couple of years ago. A stage required you to start sitting in the car, engage some targets from the window, get out and move to the front of the car to finish the stage. One of the shooters swept the crowd with his gun. Several people in the crowd yelled muzzle. The SO allowed him to finish the stage. No DQ was issued. Interestingly, I had video of the car stage. After the trip was over, I took my camera home and reviewed the tape. I was horrified to see another shooter sweep the crowd with his gun. Neither of the SO's or anyone in the crowd (including myself) noticed the shooter sweeping the crowd. How many times have you been swept? After watching this tape, I wonder..... We need to pay attention to what is going on while others are shooting. Regardless of whether or not it's in the rulebook, if I see someone point a gun at me, they will here about it.
  22. Yes. I think the SO should have been asked to sit out the rest of the day as well. Both the shooter and SO failed their duties. Both share equal responsibility.
  23. I wish I could have been there to see how all of this went down. Mike, are you saying that the shooters were not allowed to use their flashlights to verify an empty chamber? The lights were purposefully left off, and the only light being used, which you stated before wasn't enough, were the RO's red lights? Were the lights left off in an effort to save time? Why couldn't the shooters use their lights to UASC? Why not just turn on the lights when the shooters were done shooting?
