  1. I'm not surprised. The previews looked retarded.
  2. We should still try to learn something from all of this.
  3. Maybe the shooter thought he saw an empty chamber.
  4. If someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night, you might not have more than a few seconds to decide whether or not someone has earned a bullet hole. The jury will have an endless supply of time to decide if what you did was appropriate. The Match Director was there and made a decision on the spot. How long have we been discussing this? Surely, everyone can agree that the IDPA rulebook is ambiguous in certain areas. If a Match Director saw something that he/she thought was dangerous, who cares what the rulebook says! It sounds to me like the MD saw some dangerous gun handling, and it was time to invite the shooter to pack up his shit and grab a box of pasters.....
  5. +1 on that. I'd ask him to cover the match fees. I've been trying to decide whether or not to start putting this extractor in my pistols. I'm starting to think that the AFTEC extractor is a perfectly good solution to a nonexistent problem. My junk alarm is going off right now..........
  6. I was thinking the same thing. I think anytime a classified ad is placed, the server notifies Merlin on his cell phone or something.
  7. Thanks Revchuck. I find it interesting that Billy doesn't take plastic, but he has a website.
  8. So if a round hits seven feet in front of the firing line, it's not a premature shot? Why not just turn the lights on and then unload and show clear? Ok fine, the gun goes bang. The shooter gets DQ'd for unsafe gun handling. Is the SO that stood there and watched the whole thing happen really ready to SO more shooters (in the dark)?
  9. Novice shooter + the dark + a stowed flashlight + a loaded gun + a safety officer barking orders = an accident waiting to happen. What about the responsibility of the SO? Unless I know for sure that I've seen an empty chamber, I never say, "slide forward/hammer down". 100% of the time, I verify that the gun is unloaded before giving the command, and I've never witnessed an AD while being the SO. In this particular case, I'll bet the SO wasn't paying attention...... Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the IDPA rulebook say that an AD has to be within a certain distance from the firing line to be considered "unsafe" or an "AD"? Was the gun pointed down range? I'm not so sure this is a justifiable DQ.
  10. This was a fantastic match! It was challenging and fun. The SO's and staff did a great job. Everything ran very smooth. The tours and seminars were great.
  11. I have had problems with stock guide rods. Perhaps Eddie has had the same experience as I have.
  12. I am pleased to announce our 2nd annual Great Lakes IDPA Regional Championship. Information can be found at our website- http://www.linwoodbaysportsmans.com
  13. Briley is still making an aluminum FLGR for 1911's. The cost is $41.00 with shipping. The carbon S&A weighs exactly 2.8 ounces. The aluminum version weighs 1.1 ounce. You guys kick ASS!! Thank you everyone....
  14. I forgot to mention earlier that after I bought my brand new el cheapo kitchen scale from Bed, Bath and Beyond, I weighed my gun- 43 ounces with an empty magwell. Now I need to trim off 2 ounces to be legal in both IDPA/USPSA. I think I'm o.k. for the SSC with the gun set up the way it is now. I'm going to take Merlin and Jim's advice and drop 80 bucks on an aluminum S&A magwell. It should be easier to fit? I'm also going to give Caspian and Briley a call tomorrow morning and see if they are still selling an aluminum FLGR. The only reason I was going to switch grip safeties is because the guy who did my original trigger job permanently disabled my beavertail. I have to buy a new one anyway. Between the new magwell, grip safety, guide rod and grips, I should have no problem.
  15. The grip safety adds significant weight to the gun. I did some surfing and discovered that Caspian sells a titanium grip safety for $65.00. Does anyone know where you can get an aluminum grip safety? A friend of mine offered to make me an aluminum FLGR, but if Briley is making them, I'll just get one from them. I found Briley's website. The aluminum FLGR is not listed and they're closed today. I found the aluminum S&A magwell for $78. Thanks again everyone!
  16. I just went out and bought a cheap kitchen scale, and I learned some interesting things. My Jerry Barnhart grips weigh 2 ounces. A pair of plain walnut grips weigh an ounce. The FLGR weighs 2 ounces, and the GI rod weighs 1 ounce. I didn't know that S&A made an aluminum magwell-thanks Jim! The think the weight issues are largely due to the FLGR, grips and magwell.
  17. I do this with both my 550 and 650. If anything weird happens, I'll stop what I'm doing and examine every station- especially with the 550.
  18. I can't thank you guys enough for your input. I really appreciate all of your help!
  19. I posted a thread in the IDPA rules a few months ago regarding the weight limitations placed on CDP/ESP guns. Because I'm such a genius, I felt compelled to e-mail IDPA Headquarters a link to that thread. Needless to say things turned negative, our friendly moderators spend hours fixing everything, Joyce Wilson won't return my e-mails and now it's no secret that my CDP gun is illegal-----Brilliant! Before I go to anymore major matches, I thought it might be a good idea to make everything legal. Anyway, I'm done fighting over IDPA rules. I don't really care enough about the mentality or rationale behind the rules to give myself an ulcer. I'm just going to deal with it and try not to piss off anymore people. Was it that big a deal to ask why a 9mm can weigh 43 ounces, but a .45 can only weigh 41 ounces? Basically, I need to get rid of one ounce to make my gun legal. I am thinking about trying an aluminum guide rod. Does anyone here know where I can buy one? Does anyone make a titanium guide rod? I figure between the guide rod and some creative magwell fiting, I should be o.k. Does anyone have any other ideas as to how I can legally get rid of the extra weight? I've thought about taking some weight off under the trigger guard, but I can't get a consensus on whether or not that would be legal (no one at IDPA has responded to my e-mail about the legality of undercutting the trigger guard). I can't lighten the slide. Perhaps an aluminum magwell would be a better option? Please help me. This 1 ounce has been driving me nuts. Thanks.
  20. I found the reamers for sale at Brownells.com, but I couldn't find the oversized pins. Does anyone know who sells them? Is it worth the hassle? Thanks.
  21. Some of my favorite surgeon sayings: Wow! I've never seen that before. Geez, what do we do now? What do you mean the sponge count isn't correct? That's the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about the news Mark! I think everything is going to be fine!! My offer still stands- I'm still willing to be your squad bitch at the SSC.
