  1. Oops. Never mind. There was a nameless piece of gunk which prevented the beautifully machined tube from screwing fully into the nut, which I should have seen right away. All is now good. Look before you panic and post. Nordic makes the best stuff if you are smart enough to figure out how it is supposed to go together...
  2. I just noticed that the Nordic magazine extension on my Benelli M1 won't tighten up. No matter how tight the large knurled nut is, the extension tube is loose and flops around. It was not that way when I first installed it a year ago or so. This seems rather odd. Am I missing a washer or spacer or something? Any ideas?
  3. I've got the Armalite 16" carbine, mainly because it was the only one available 8 or 9 years ago when I bought it. It's very well made and finished, and has been 100% reliable with everything from various cheap surplus to careful handloads. I had JP upgrade it a year ago with one of their triggers, VTAC handguards, adjustable gas blocks and Cooley comp. But, I've always been disappointed with its accuracy. At some point I may have it re-barreled, but I've already sunk a lot of money in it. And the magazines are pretty expensive. If I had to do it over I would get a JP or LaRue, or if I couldn't afford that a DPMS. A few friends have the DPMS and they are as reliable as my Armalite and are a lot more accurate. My favorite reasonably priced one was the Bushmaster but it was only made for a few years. I'm also mourning the lack of cheap surplus ammo...
  4. I guess I'll soon find out. My M&P Pro works great with stock springs and my 132+ P.F. match ammo. (My son mostly shoots this pistol-I can't seem to give up my G34). However, I have a case of weak factory ammo (115 gr PMC) I'd like to shoot up as practice ammo. It won't reliably cycle either the M&P or the G34. I just ordered the 13# spring and guide rod from SSS and will try it out with this stuff. Hopefully it won't screw us up switching back to the stock springs and reloads for matches...
  5. Is the illumination in the leupy visible in daylight? I'm looking for a scope for my .308 AR and due to price and features I am looking at the 1.5-5 x 20 ILL SPR and the Burris 1.5-6 XTR. From searching the forums the Burris illumination is apparently somewhat daylight visible. Yes, my first choice would be the Swarvoski Z6 but for about $2200 is out of my price range by a long shot. The rifle currently has a 3-12 scope on it with a JP Tactical sight at 2:00 on the handguard, but I don't like this setup. This is not my primary 3-gun rifle but I might use it sometimes just for fun (my usual 3-gun rifle is a .223 16" carbine with an Aimpoint M3).
  6. I store mine in my basement, which happens to be cool and dry. In line with NFPA guidelines, I have mine in a wooden box with 1.5 inch walls (made with nominal 2x12's) and keep less than 50 lbs. You can find the NFPA guidelines online. I mainly follow this so my homeowners insurance doesn't have an excuse to deny a claim. Besides, the NFPA calls such a box a "powder magazine" which for some reason sounds really cool to me. According to some gun shop owners I've talked to, the local fire department will also accept fire resistant steel cabinets designed for flammables, but those are really expensive. So far I haven't had any powder go bad, but I live in a dry climate.
  7. Leaving tomorrow early a.m. (Thurs). 681 miles from here to Boise. I must be nuts to drive so far, but an addiction is an addiction. Shooting Sat/Sun a.m.
  8. As an RO, I notice that some shooters (usually experienced) will, on the command "unload and show clear" , drop the magazine, eject the round, drop the hammer and holster the weapon in one smooth motion without waiting for the next command. This is a bad habit. I politely tell them "you didn't show clear, please remove your weapon from the holster and show me clear, then wait for the next command", i.e we start over. Sometimes I can say "stop, show me the chamber" before they holster. I suppose you could DQ someone for this but in these cases I don't think its necessary.
  9. I was on Public Land where shooting is allowed. A guy next to me drops a 10"x12" cardboard box on the ground at 25 yards. Gets out a tricked up Mini 14 with an extended 40 round magazine and opens fire as fast as he can work the trigger. There's a huge cloud of dust; rocks and ricochets start flying everywhere (surface is dry hardpan). I actually dive behind my truck and hope nothing important gets hit. He empties the mag and sticks in a 30 rounder and empties that too. When he's done he picks up the box and stares at it-not a single hole in it. I walk up to him and say "nice rifle-it can sure fire fast". He said "yeah, it cost me a lot of dough", abruptly turned around got in his car and left. I picked up the box (yep, no holes) and his brass and left also. I never shot there again...
  10. 100) Be prepared for how long a 3 gun/ multigun match may take. Our local pistol matches (5 or 6 stages) are generally over by 1:00 pm but I've seen our 3G's go to about 4:00.
  11. Same here-my mag springs died suddenly (one match they worked-then they didn't). I thought this was odd-all my other weapons just slowly increased failures until I figured out what the problem was, but my 10 round Glock springs just gave up all at once. I replaced the followers at the same time.
  12. And my big problem is anticipating recoil. I've never been able to get rid of it in 30 years of shooting. Most of the advice given in classes is for the true flinch at the blast/noise. Double plugging and dry fire hasn't helped me. Dummy rounds in the mag shows that I have a serious problem but hasn't helped me get rid of it. When I RO'd the Open Nationals I didn't flinch when those obnoxious pistols that blister paint at 30 yards went off-because I couldn't anticipate when they would fire. At a class once the instructor had me hold the pistol and align the sights while he stood next to me and pressed the trigger. No anticipation, and I (we) couldn't miss! Single ragged holes at 7 yards, and center A zones at 25! Maybe someday I will train this problem away-just before I enter the nursing home.
  13. When I took a civilian hunting rifle class, the instructor always set out some eggs (held end on in cardboard) to shoot at along with whatever targets we were shooting. 100 yards even I could hit them. 200 yards I was about 35%. 300 yards and over-forget it. Quite a challenge. We weren't shooting off a bench but field prone, sitting, etc.
  14. I've shot this twice and tanked it both times. We will be shooting it locally tomorrow (thanks a lot Jason). The freestyle is easy if you time it right to get your A's. For me, the right hand only isn't bad either-I shoot bullseye right handed. But the other 2 strings-forget it. The left hand only: my draw and transfer is too slow, by the time I get the pistol in my left hand and sights aligned I have no time left to shoot. (1.5-1.6 second draw, transfer and aim maybe another 2.5 sec). The first time I shot this I got no hits on the left hand only (string 1) target. I can also only get three shots off on String 3 (3 reload 3): My draw is too slow and reload even worse. This would be a great practice stage for me but it stinks as a classifier.
  15. My condolences to y'all in Ohio or Maryland. In these here parts I think its agin the law to not have your shootin iron stoked..
  16. Use 6 or 8 inch paper dinner (salad?) plates as targets, and mount them so you have to transition both horizontally and vertically. I buy mine at Costco-cheap. Then work on accuracy. I've thought about (but haven't done it) making a star out of paper plates and 1x2 lath...
  17. I finally shot my AR with the Nordic comp installed, and I like it. It's not nearly as loud or blasty as what it replaced, and you can't beat the price. Mine dips a little also, but I can live with it. Don't have to worry about muzzle rise anyway. So far it's my favorite comp.
  18. Mine is an M1, so the B&C will fit. And mpeltier is correct: so far, BATFE has never cared about individual owners of shotguns. They've got plenty of other stuff to keep them busy. But,do you trust that the interpretation won't change, and that they will tell us if it does? I don't. So I'd just as soon make mine compliant and quit worrying.
  19. The only Speedfeed stocks I can find are pistol grips-which I don't want. Does Speedfeed make a non-PG stock for the Benelli? Any other American made stocks out there? How about the Bell and Carlson (more $ than Speedfeed)? I would like to get my Benelli into 922® compliance with a greater than 5 shell capacity (I leave mine at five even though I have a Nordic extension-I too have a letter from the BATFE). All I need is the stock to have the 10 or fewer evil imported parts. This has to be one of the dumber laws/regulations in existence-although I understand (and disagree with) the original intent.
  20. Yes, I meant Redding. (they're both green!). Its called the G-RX. There's a thread about it somewhere here.
  21. RCBS already makes a die like you mentioned for the Rockchucker (in .40 only for now). It's reviewed in the latest Front Sight. What it's called escapes me at the moment. It allows you to push a case entirely through the die, resizing it the whole length.
  22. 13. Someone breaks into your house, and you are found dead in front of your safe because you couldn't decide which gun to use to defend yourself (too many choices)...
  23. I always preferred "rollover prone" for shooting a pistol. I hope it's written so that is allowed.
  24. This weekend's match I had everything: pistol, magazines, ammunition, belt, hoster, shoes, ear protection, shooting glasses, positive attitude, etc. Until I went to load magazines after I shot the first stage and discovered I had 50 rounds of 9mm (of which I had just shot 24) and 150 rounds of .45. No, .45 ACP will not fit in my G34. How I did that I'll never know. It's in different sized boxes and labeled. Twenty minutes home for the correct ammo and twenty minutes back. Got back just as my squad finished the 2nd stage and they waited so I could shoot. I wonder what the look on my face was like as I stared at those nice shiny .45's...
  25. I have the same problem-with both TF and Angus's aluminum extended base pads. Also it doesn't matter what mag springs I use-the original CZ, Angus's extended, or Grams springs/followers. It also occurs with Winchester whitebox factory ammo. The round nosedives and catches on the front of the mag body (not on the feedramp). I only shot a few dozen rounds with the original factory basepads and springs and only with factory ammo; it didn't occur then but it might not have been a large enough sample. I was going to fool with COL but due to financial concerns it's on the back burner for now-I'm shooting 9mm Production most of this season. I hope someone comes up with a definitive answer. The TS is cool pistol when it works.
