  1. The distance seems a little excessive; it becomes a measure of running speed rather than gun handling and shooting ability. However, the idea is good since the "P" is for practical. True incident: I looked out my window and saw a disreputable-looking person peering in and attempting to open a neighbor's lower level window. I grabbed the phone, dialed 911 and then ran for my pistol-which was in the bedroom up the stairs on the far side of the house. I racked in a round (pistol stored with loaded mag and empty chamber)then ran back to where I could watch and wait for the cops. The guy was driving away when I looked out again. So maybe running for your weapon is a realistic scenario.
  2. Does anyone besides me think that the Christian camp counselor (Dustin?)is somehow a ringer? He is supposedly a recreational shooter with no competition/LEO/Military experience. But, he hit the rifle targets with the OBR and AK with one round fired each, shot the best on the shotgun challenge (9 out of 10), and won the elimination challenge by hitting 21 of 24 light bulbs with 1 friendly. It makes me wonder if there is something in his background we are not being told. For dramatic purposes?
  3. In the last two local matches, my performance has been the worst in four or five years. I started out the season really well, and have gone steeply down hill ever since. My actual shooting is ok, but it's stupid stage errors that is ruining everything. I keep screwing up where I do re-loads, even though I plan them during walk through. There was a stage that required a retreat from a hallway, and I went way too far on the way back and tripped over the starting box (finger off trigger, muzzle down range, but I still nearly gave the RO a heart attack). I shot the paper from one position on another stage but didn't engage the steel and had to go back for it (I was dead last on that stage). Instead of stepping up on a platform from where I was (only about 18 inches high) I jogged all way around to use the stairs. I'm not that old and fat. I'm not sure how to get my head back in the game before the next match...
  4. I got mine on Friday noon. I mounted it to the rifle in a PEPR after work and went to the range for a quick zero. I didn't have time for much before dark. I took it to a local Multigun on Saturday morning. I really like this scope-I actually like the big ring for close targets. Both eyes open, ring on target, quick A. I didn't get my zero right though; I was way high at 100 yds (the farthest targets we can get at the local range). And despite practicing with it Friday night I couldn't get the illumination to turn on Sat. (but didn't need it). I would much prefer a dial even if it cost a few more bucks. It seems to work now. Back to the range for more practice and to figure drops. I might even get another one for my .308 AR carbine, although I was looking for a 6X. And I need a cattail.
  5. I was right: I shot a match Saturday and it short-stroked on the last mag of the last stage of the match when it was pretty dirty. I cleared it and fired the last 7 rounds ok. I did have to remove the gas block to install the forend. But, it is pinned in place with two channels drilled through the barrel so it is some what locked in position. The buttstock is a Rock River Arms that came as a kit with new spring and buffer. I'll look at the buffer to see if it is marked. What should I be looking for? I suppose I can re-install the A2 stock, spring, and buffer to see if that's the problem. Is there any way to check the gas tube?
  6. I replaced the aluminum tube fore end on a Bushmaster V-Match (20" H-bar 5.56 barrel) with a JP/Viking Tactical one. At the same time I replaced the gas tube. Also, I changed the lower from an A2 stock to an adjustable carbine style stock. No other changes: same pinned gas block, BCG, etc. Ejection is now very weak, the spent case barely rolls out of the port. It still cycles 100% but I'm afraid it won't when it gets dirty. The carrier end of the new gas tube looks good (straight) and I can't feel any drag when hand cycling the bolt carrier. Is this likely a restriction somewhere else in the gas tube/gas block? The way the block is pinned on you really can't adjust its' position. Could this have anything to do with the new buffer?
  7. Just out of curiosity, where is this scope made? My other Burris scopes are all built in the US: is this one also? I wonder because of the price...
  8. Is this available as an upper only? If it is, where could you get one?
  9. What's the best way to remove the checkering from the grip? I'm not sure I have the nerve to start in with the Dremel. Hand files? Milling machine?
  10. Is your wife a college graduate? One of the few useful skills I learned in college was how to puke out the window of a vehicle at high speed.
  11. I'm going to RO for the LPR match, getting to Las Vegas on Tuesday. Might be interesting: I haven't been there in about 25 years. It hasn't changed much, has it? If you see a pale, fat old guy in a gray RO t-shirt confused and wandering around the Strip (or the strip clubs) gently direct me back to the range...
  12. I notice that Swarovski introduced its BRT-I reticle for the Z6 1x6 in July which looks similar but without the large illuminated ring for close up targets (has the center dot and stadia which look identical). Price is $2300 for the illuminated version so I guess I don't have to worry about either one.
  13. The match is in October this year; anybody know what the weather is like in Vegas then? Summer is hot, dry, and windy, but how about mid-October?
  14. Yes, for highpower, where you don't run with the rifle. Highpower AR's usuallly weigh between 12 and 18 pounds...
  15. Who was that ladle I saw you with? That was no ladle, that was my knife.
  16. I wish I could get mine to work-it is a 3 or 4 shot pistol between mis-feeds. I suspect it's ammo related but maybe I'll check the magazine/basepad junctions. I'm loading MG 180 gr over Titegroup to 1.135". This is my Glock 35 load and I would hate to have to load two different .40's. I just haven't had time to work on it. What I need to do: try it with the Win factory ammo I have(at 1.120"); put the factory basepads back on; and check the extractor cleanliness. To be competitive in Limited I really need the extended basepads.
  17. The balances I use at work cost $2000-$3000. I wouldn't expect too much from a $140 scale. My Dillon at home works well enough and doesn't float or drift.
  18. Nice to hear. It snowed for a couple of hours this morning. High tomorrow in the thirties. I did grill some steaks tonight-while wearing my winter coat.
  19. I also went to "monovision"- close sight focus in the right lens and infinity focus in the left. It worked great for 3 or 4 years but recently I started to get splitting headaches when I wear them for more than a few hours. Not sure what I will try next.
  20. Have enough dedication or interest to set aside sufficient time to practice, and have a career that allows it. For instance, one small group I know who have all made master or "A" are self-employed consulting engineers that have blocked out one afternoon a week for shooting practice-it's part of their schedule. I also know a couple of doctors and dentists who take an afternoon off a week to practice shooting instead of the historical doctor's golf afternoon-even though the rest of their work schedule is long and tough. It comes down to what you decide to do with the time you are given.
  21. I shot the one at Area 1 last year slow but sure: kept it balanced by alternating left/right from the inside out. The end plates went last. Spun like a propeller when I was finished but didn't move at all while I was shooting. I even had a miss in there. Much easier than a Texas Star.
  22. My G34 was indifferently accurate until I started using this load: 124 gr MG HP, 4.0 gr Titegroup, OAL 1.125". Very accurate in my pistol. I prefer the snappier recoil of the 124's to the softer push of 147's.

    Curling

I also noticed that one of the Russian woman curlers was one of the cutest women in the Olympics. And in general the female curlers were actually more attractive than the figure skaters. Allright, I admit it-I'm a dirty old man. (The oldest player on the Russian Team is 24).
  24. I use the Glock spacer, and I haven't had any problems with losing mags or mags moving around too much. Some kind of an extra shim such as the Velcro or washer suggestd above might help though. I don't use one: I switch back and forth between a G35 and the TS without changing anything.
