Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Unfortunately, this story does not have a happy ending. After changing the bell on the case and even removing the spring I still had inconsistent seating. After several calls to Redding no luck. The guy at Redding was very helpful and he advised me to send them to him, but I just felt like I had already wasted too much of my life on these dies. I sent them back to Midway for credit and bought 3 more seating dies from Dillon with some Hornady Lock rings. Now I just pop in the preset seating die for the bullet type I am loading. $75 well spent. Maybe other people will have better with these dies than me.
  2. I spoke to Redding and he recommended taking the spring out of the die. Before I did this I took the advice of cdrissel and reduced the belling on my cases. This made the difference. Removing the spring also helps but the real issue was the bell. Thanks so much for the help. As far as the 38spl die, the guy from Redding is sending me 38spl Wadcutter insert and recommended I reset the die once I seat the SWC bullet. He said there will be enough room to adjust the die down for the full Wadcutter. The Redding customer service is excellent. I'll definitely buy their products again.
  3. I recently picked up a Super 1050 from a member here on the forum. I really love the machine. I had a Hornady LNL Progresive prior to this and I really loved that machine also. With the Dillon I seat and crimp in 2 different operations which were combined in the Hornady. Anyway, I bought the Redding Competition dies so I could easily dial in the seating as I use several different bullet types for shooting 45ACP. The die seemed to work in the beginning but now I'm having problems. I will either increase the decrease the seating depth a few notches and then the die will all of a sudden change a significant amount. Like up to 1/4 inch. Then I will try to work my way back to the previous setting and suddenly depth will jump again. I took the die apart, cleaned it, set it up again and no change. It will significantly change at times with just small incremental changes. I'm a little frustrated and kind of at a loss of what to try next. Anyone have any suggestions? I have a different problem with the same die in 38spl. I basically load 2 bullet types in 38spl. 158gr LSWC and 148gr WCHB bullets. The problem is that the seating depth is very different between the full wadcutter and semi-wadcutter that the die runs of room to properly seat both bullets. I'm not sure there is a solution to this one and it may just be best to sell the die and get another seating die just for wadcutter from Dillon. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  4. I really love this beast of a machine. That was my 1st run of SWC. I'll get things correct soon. The one thing I miss about my Hornady is the Lock N' Load system. Its very slick and made switching from bullet type very easy. Just pop in a new die already adjusted and start loading. When you change bullet types with the Dillon, you have to readjust the seating die every time. I load 185gr SWC, 185gr SWCHP, 200 gr SWC, and 230gr FMJ all in 45ACP. I had 4 dies I used to swap in and out depending on what I am shooting. I like the separate taper and crimp dies much better. The bullet quality appears to be better. Do you guys have an easy way to have things pre-adjusted rather than having to readjust the seating die from scratch each time. Thanks.
  5. I really want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions. I actually went ahead and got the 1050 for Christmas and a friend of mine whose had a 1050 for some time came over and help me set it up. I absolutely love the machine. It is so smoooooth. The action is very easy to work and the lack of upstroke is the big difference to me. You can load fast, safely, and accurately. I'll wait a little while before getting the Bullet feeder and maybe in the distant future a Posner drive. Thanks again everyone for the help. The Finished Product
  6. Thanks a lot for the advice. I appreciate it. Sorry for the dumb responses: First, what is RCSD? Second, I am familiar with the Hornady Powder Measure system on my LNL press. What is the problem with the measure on this press. Which powder measuring system do you use for better adjustments. I also noticed a lot of complaints in the 1050 threads about the primer catch system. Is there a specific thread that deals with a better mod. On the Hornady, the primers go into a tube which goes out of the way into a small container. How about the Powder Check Die with the alarm and the Powder Sensing system with alarm, any suggestions with those?
  7. My understanding was that the warranty was only for one year anyway. Dillon makes you pay for the parts after one year.
  8. Thanks everyone for the detailed and prompt responses. I think I'll take the advice and just order the Dillon setup first and then after a few months go all in with the Posness auto drive setup. The lack of upstroke is probably going to make the biggest difference. That's when my shoulder started clicking with the machine. Are there any other things you would doing or reading with regard to a new Super 1050. Thanks everyone again for the info.
  9. I've decided on getting the Dillon Super 1050 and had a couple questions. I'm getting a lot of shoulder problems and my Orthopedist thinks that it is the reloading. I'm primarily a Bullseye shooter and load 45ACP and 38spl. The Dillon would be set up for 45ACP. First, do any of the bullet feeders for this press take LSWC or just FMJ or Plated Bullets. I shoot 200gr + 185gr SWC and SWCHP rounds primarily. I do load 230gr FMJ for Distinguished, but not as much as the other two. Second, does anyone have the Ponsness/Warren auto drive and how well does it work. Can you use it without a bullet feeder or do you need one. I'm not sure how it would work without a bullet feeder. Can you disconnect it and then go manual? Third, can you easily change bullets by just swapping out the dies. To go from LSWC to FMJ. Lastly, Dillon has a conversion kit for $250. Does this kit make the process any easier? Or is it a huge deal to go from large to small primer. I currently use a Hornady LNL Progressive which I love. But thinking about moving up. Thanks for the help.
  10. Thank you so much for taking the time for your detailed answer. This is exactly what I was looking for. Let me just clarify. As long as you add US Made parts, you can continue to modify the weapon. So you need to have 10 or less foreign parts on the weapon to make it compliant once you modify it. I have 10 foreign made parts at this point. If I add the Nordic mag follower and another US part bringing it down to 8 parts that would be legal under the 922r law. My head always spins when these discussions come up.
  11. Hello everyone. I just got the M2 21" barrel last week. I added a GG&G Tactical Bolt Release Pad, Dave's Metal Works Charging Handle, Nordic Components 5rd extension tube, and Nordic Extension Tube Clamp. Another shooter advised me at the range that my Benelli M2 is now not compliant with 922r. Is this true? These mods seem to be pretty basic to 3-Gun competitors. Is everyone shooting "illegal" shotguns or is there something that I am missing. I did try to answer my question via the Search feature of the forum but was unable to find it. If there is an appropriate thread, please direct me to it. Thanks for the help.
