  1. Hrm I didn't realize the iron sights wouldn't sit under the mount. Sounds like a problem. Here's praying for a huge tax return this year
  2. It'd be nice to win but I kind of just want to play. Get some practice in with the dot but I will be concentrating on Limited. I figure about $250 for the barrel, 275 for comp, 100 for sight mount and 250 for optics + labor. That's about 1000 to play in open instead of $2500. It ain't cheap but it is less than half of what I'd have to drop on a full gun. If I could snag a used open gun for $1500 I'd be in heaven but the classifieds don't turn up many of those
  3. Being the poor, recently out of college guy that I am, and wanting to shoot open every now and then, I was thinking about having a barrel and comp fitted on my Para 16.40 and having it drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Is this even possible? and am I wierd for wanting to do it? I know I'll lose some capacity to the 38supers, etc, but unless there is a stage where there is 27 shots in a row from the same position I think I could get by with a few extra reloads on the move. At least it will make me practice my loads more What do you think? Is it worth it?
  4. Seems like everyone is out of them. I'll have to go with something else for now I suppose.
  5. I would love one as it looks like a really sweet shooter but it doesn't hold enough ammo(I think on SIGforum they said it holds 14 or so rounds of .40) for limited and is too heavy for IDPA so I'd have no practical use for it except limited 10. It will probably be a $2200+ gun where the edge is more like $1700.
  6. Gramsengineering.com seems to be down and last I talked to them they were out of stock of the para basepad kits. Does anyone else know where to find them? I checked shooters connection and they don't carry them. Thanks.
  7. YOu can shave off some material from under the grips and it will make weight if you are feeling fiesty. There is no approved gun list so as long as it fits the box and makes weight you should be legal.
  8. Whats a Dawson Ice S&A Retrofit? Got pics? I'm curious.
  9. Maybe the jacket is worth a few hundred
  10. Could you point me to this rule? NEW n. Any time a loaded ammunition feeding device (magazine, speedloader or full moon clip) is dropped from the carrier during a course of fire. Can't seem to find it in the book. Is it saying if you accidentally drop a mag from your belt you get a penalty?
  11. Crap looks like my SIG is in ESP now.
  12. EGW says they can lighted the S&A well in the mainspring housing area and they can also lighted the Para frame in the area under the grips. After the work is done on my gun he's going to weigh it and see how much has to be done to get it IDPA legal.
  13. I'd like it better without the writing on the side, although I like the shield and cocking serations.
  14. Yep, that's what I meant. The other frames I've seen have rectangular cutouts on the frame under the grips and the para just has 2 rather small holes on each side. editted to note: I spoke with George at EGW. Here is what he had to say. Hi Matt, We have lightened Para's under the grips before, also the main spring housing can be pared down. Lets see what it weigh's when were done, we can go from there. Thank you
  15. Does anyone know if it would be safe to take out some weight from the frame by removing a bit of material from the frame under the grips. The frame is much thicker here than on most other 1911's, and I'm probably about 2 ounces overweight for IDPA with my magwell. (didnt realize weight limits included the empty mag)
  16. My para is at EGW as we speak for the IDPA S&A magwell and any weigh reduction necessary to get it under 43 oz. Will post pics when it's back.
  17. The classifier I shot was 4 6 shot strings (baseball standards) so the mag limitations didn't matter, which is why I was was confused. Thanks for clearing it up.
  18. I shot my first USPSA match last month in Limited, but I think I want to move to L-10 for the duration. Does my classifier carry over to the other division or are they independent from eachother? Thanks!
  19. Oh comeon! All these suggestions and no pics? My 16.40 is with George at EGW as we speak and I'm gettin restless (It's only been a day, haha) so make with the pics!
  20. I have a similar question, assuming my sights are set at 25 yards or so, should I be aiming slightly high, or slightly low for a very tight shot at around 7 yards. I shot an IDPA match this weekend and I do great hitting paper, but afterwards we got a dueling tree out with little steel squares and I had a hell of a time hitting it. I think it has a bit to do with where my sights are set up to hit and how I line them up. Any advice the pros would like to offer me ?
  21. Turned the ones on my Para 2 ticks to the right from the factory and have left it like that since.
  22. Here here, I shoot both and have no plans on stopping either and reserve the right to complain as much as I want too!
  23. As far as the Uncle Mike's holsters, it really sucks for them because even if they change their design to make it more IDPA friendly it still isn't legal because it's specifically mentioned
  24. danial97, What thumb safety is that if you don't mind? BTW, someone shot one of those full length light rail 1911s today (Springfield something or other I think) and no one said anything, although it wasn't a sanctioned match.
