  1. DId you clean and lube it before the first time you shot it? My s16.40 had a similar problem and I made sure I lubed it better next range trip, and also hit the feedramp with some 1500 grit sandpaper and flitz to shine it up real nice. Havn't had a single malf. since the first day at the range in which I had about 7 in 100 rounds.
  2. My first classifier and first USPSA match...I'm a lowly IDPA shooter. Completely botched the transfer right to left hand...only got 2 shots off before the timer...A-C... Got 6 hits on paper in string 2(damn that's far) and tried just for 3 good hits in string 3 (got 1 A 2 Cs) and I think ended up with 2 mikes on the last string. Ewww 54 points.
  3. What if after your last shot is fired you run back to snag the dropped mag. Nothing left behind, but the timer stopped at the last shot. That'd be interesting to see I think.
  4. Huh? Are you saying the link doesn't work? Works for me http://www.toptonfga.org/Area_8/2004_Area_8/2004_Area_8.html Maybe I'm missing something :/
  5. Thanks for the reply jdt, I thought that too upon looking at it but have yet to take the gun down completely and look at the material thickness in that area, but you answered my question perfectly.
  6. Interesting thread. I think that most guns cycle in about half of the time you are hypothesizing though.
  7. Thanks guys. Nice guns. I hope this isn't a silly question, but all of your pictures are of S*I guns, I imagine this modification can be done on a Para frame? I'm sending my gun out to EGW and am just finalizing everything I want done while it's out there, might as well get it all done now
  8. I think I want to get the bottom of my trigger guard relieved a bit to facilitate a higher grip but I havn't seen many examples of it, anyone have any photos?
  9. I made some of myself from this weekends IDPA match. Go easy on me I'm new http://home.comcast.net/~waktasz
  10. Very strange indeed. Maybe it has something to do with how the gun returns into battery and how the barrel sits in the gun or something. I'm out of ideas, anybody else?
  11. The recoil spring doesn't affect the trigger at all. The firing pin spring and trigger spring do though. I'd like to see the results from a benchrest with both firing pin springs, I'd imagine they'd have to be the same, unless I am completely missing something.
  12. On Glocks the firing spring pin affects the trigger pull, probably has become a bit harder, although crisper breaking.
  13. Where can I get some quality match footage? I have a few of Matt B's training vids and love the clips at the end of some great shooters blasting away. Are there any high level match videos available on DVD anywhere? Gimme gimme gimme!!! I can't get enough of this stuff. btw- where would a topic like this go? I couldn't really find an appropriate forum.
  14. Don't take any material off, there are tight tolerances involved back thar. Polish it up with some flitz or simichrome and if it's still uneven I'd have a smith look at it.
  15. How about the finger grove grip panels like on my SIG?
  16. I'll be shooting my first IPSC match this month after competing in IDPA for about a year and was just wondering how IPSC handles classification. Is it a set stage like IDPA or do they base it on your match performance over a period of time? I dont really understand the process. Thanks!
  17. You can't do that? Hrm I always do. For a while I only had 3 mags so I had to do it that way to allow for stages that required 2 reloads or else I wouldn't have 3 full mags on me.
  18. Paint one of the basepads and load that mag with 11...makes loading and making ready a little easier.
  19. Took the extractor out last night to try and tweak a little bit, trying to follow these http://www.m1911.org/technic2.htm instructions but I had no luck. The claw is a separate piece from the main body of the extractor and it's spring loaded so you can't bend it at all. I'm going to try and polish it up and maybe file it some near the bottom edge so the case rim slides under it more easily.
  20. The slide does hitch a bit when hand cycling all rounds in the mag, but only gets really jammed on the last round. It seems to me at least the problem is a tight extractor and also magazine related. I'm going to try and tweak it a bit tonight, although I'm a rookie to this situation so my next post might be asking where is a good place to get replacement parts
  21. Yea it's got the power extractor. This is my first 1911 style pistol but it doesn't look all that innovative to me, what's the difference between the two extractor designs?
  22. After looking installing a heavier recoil spring and having a look at what is going on inside, it looks like the extractor is too tight, and not allowing the case to slip into its position on the breach face. It is holding the very top of the case rim with the bottom of the extractor which points the bullet straight up into the top of the chamber. I'll shoot it Thursday and see if the increased recoil spring fixes the symptoms, or if it just needs to be broken in a bit. Does extractor tension break in on a new pistol, or will I have to have it tuned somehow?
