  1. Weld it. I've had to re-weld one before. Gary
  2. I have an open Glock with a Tasco Optima and to me it seems a little slower to pick up the dot than my open guns that have c-more's or tube scopes. "Slower" may just be because I haven't shot it as much as I've shot the others. Once I found the dot I never lost it while shooting because the slide was moving though. I went this way just because that's what I already had, but if I did it over I'd probably get a mount (if my Glock had the under rail) like the Carver or something similar. Gary
  3. A plain jane front sight - cut down - with a little work from your grinder and belt sander makes a fine setup... even looks pretty good and streamlined. + 1 + 1 more
  4. I used to use the Remington 1100 but when I handled an M2 I switched. The M2 is much lighter and a little less finicky than the Remington. Not that I had problems with it because I didn't. My M2 has a 24" barrel, comfort stock with the thick gel-pad, Nordic extended tube - bolt handle - bolt release button, and an Arredondo speed loader. I think the M4 is heavier even though it's smaller. This is just based on their website. http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/m4.tpl My suggestion is get the M2 and you'll never look back. Gary
  5. I'm using a Lee undersize die. There are no springs involved. I haven't had an old primer stick to the decapping pin and reseat itself for a few years but that was a different feel when it did happen. I knew that something was wrong then. I've probably loaded around 300,000 rounds on progressive loaders and this is the first "ringer" I've had. Seems like the swagging station should have given me some resistance so I'll have to check that to make sure it's adjusted right. Don't think I'd use hearing protection while reloading but I *always* reload using eye protection. Gary
  6. I've always wondered if a primer were to go off while I was loading, would I be able to recognize what caused it. Well, I found out a little while ago. The answer is no. Used to be when operating the handle if it felt like there was some resistance and I tried to force it, I usually ended up breaking or bending something. Using an RL1050 it didn't feel any different than usual, just a quick pop!!! Once I came back to the loader and ignored the ringing in my ear I started looking around to find out what happened. I took out the case at the primer seating station and found what looked like a fully seated/smashed primer in the case. Then I noticed a ring of brass around the primer seating ram. I decapped the case and ended up with several pieces. You can probably tell what happened from this picture. You can see from the primer pocket that there is still just a ring of brass in the pocket. I found most of the pieces except the anvil of the original primer. Only the flat part of the used primer was decapped and it didn't feel any different when it went through the swagging station either. I guess when I seated the new primer it stripped off the sides and pushed the new anvil and priming compound into the primer pocket with the old sides. Ergo the POP!!! I've read stories about people having a primer go off and have a chain reaction of all the rest in the primer tube. I can't see how this would happen because the one primer that went off isn't even close to the other primers. As loud as the one primer was though, I sure am glad the others didn't go off. Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. Back to reloading. Gary
  7. M1? Garand, Carbine, Benelli???
  8. You have a Fobus for a 1911 and you're putting an XD in it? I have one for 1911's and it works perfectly with my 1911's. G
  9. I've been using these http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/Pro...p;s=22876#22876 in my SA for a couple years with no problems. You'll probably need to install a base pad though. Gary
  10. I look forward to 300 plus yard rifle stages. Of course I use a scope too so that has some influence on my decision. Gary
  11. You can buy single sided mounts that match the hole pattern of the Serendipity. Alchin is one of them. Then all you have to do is turn that scope into a slide ride. Here's the directions to do that. http://www.brazoscustom.com/magart/0701.htm Gary
  12. Go see a physical therapist. I went to one when I snapped my ACL and during the course of rehabilitation I developed a clicking too. They did something like a deep tissue massage that cured the problem. It still happens occasionally but I know where to massage it now. Gary
  13. Try loosening the bolt that holds the ratchet restriction tab. Sometimes that helps if it's stuck. Although by the way, you have to bring the handle all the way down before you try to lift it for the upstroke. Gary
  14. I've been testing Bear Creeks 40 cal 140 gr. RNFP and I'm impressed. I've only used them in a Glock so far but they work great. The OAL is a little short and I haven't tried them in a 1911 yet but I will soon. Try em' you'll like em'. Gary
  15. I found this in an email I got in September last year. I'll try to post the pictures soon but they look just like your pitcure. During a routine inspection of a Glock Model 22 pistol, we discovered damage to a firing pin (6861 above). Approximately a week later, we found a second damaged firing pin (6869 and 6872 above). A spot check of 21 other Glock Model 22 pistols produced four more damaged firing pins. The Glock Model 22 pistol is our primary duty weapon for patrol officers. We have not experienced any malfunctions with these pistols. One pistol has a serial number designation of DAU and was one of two purchased in 1999, the rest have a serial number designation of EPL and we purchased 125 of these in January 2002. The DAU serial numbered pistol has fired less than 3500 rounds; the EPL serial numbered pistols have fired less than 3000 rounds. The number of rounds fired was a calculated estimate rounded up from the estimate. We have been in contact with our Glock District Manager and Glock is now aware of our problem. There have been no other reports of this type of damage by any other agency or source at this time. This problem could be unique to our weapons at this agency. The damage appears to be caused by the firing pin striking the firing pin safety; we have not found any damaged firing pin safeties at this point. This problem could be caused by soft metal in our firing pins. Firing pin and more
  16. Is there something wrong with the tube that's on it? If there isn't, don't change it. Why fix something that's not broken? My 2 cents. G
  17. I'm not sure "upgrade" is an accurate term. Once the Para is fine tuned, I didn't see a difference except in weight and grip. I have an open and a limited Para and an open and a limited STI that, when all is said and done I usually grab the Para's first.
  18. I've always reloaded indoors. I bought the house I'm in now so I could turn the downstairs bedroom into my gun and reloading room. Powder is stored in a cabinet, 3 feet away, in the closet is more powder and about 4 more feet away from that, also in the closet is all my primers. There shouldn't be any health concerns with reloading indoors but you should take normal safety measures, i.e. safety glasses, fire extinguisher close by and if the loader feels like it's jamming, don't force it... I've never had a primer blow while reloading, even sometimes when I did try to force the handle. I have had them blow up while vacuuming though. That always breaks up the monotony of vacuuming.
  19. My side saddle attaches with the two screws. I just snugged them up a little so they're not loose but I also used blue loctite. Never had a problem with my 1100 and have used it for 7 or 8 years. G
  20. This is embarrassing but when I first got my dremel I decided I needed front serrations on my .45. Now.... I wouldn't be at all surprised to be shooting it during a course of fire and having the front of the slide crack and fall off. Although it has been working fine for the last 16 years. I still sometimes get that dremel out but not for anything that requires precision. G
  21. It's most likely because its new brass. Try it with once fired brass and you probably won't have any problems.
  22. From the Vit reloading manual. http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/9747/scan0004ku8.jpg
  23. Yeah Butch, you put it in the right place. Because everytime I watched it I laughed..... Gary
