  1. Don't need to. Sipping on my Costco stuff as I type. Did add a few ice cubes to bring it down a few proof, though.
  2. I shipped five boxes of brass on feb. 7 .Four got there yesterday as expected. The fifth one has not been scanned since it left my local PO. I'm sure it's gone. The last time this happened, I got back the EMPTY box. The BASTARDS slit it open with a box cutter and had the gall to mark it "arrived empty" return to sender. They were nice enough to retape before they sent it back to me!!! At least this last one I was smart enough to insure. Now I get to wait 21 days before I can file a claim and find what a PIA thats going to be.
  3. If you're near a Costco, try a bottle of their Kirkland house brand small batch Kentucky bourbon. It's 7 years old, $20.00 bucks for a full liter and I think a worthy rival to MM. And, it's 103 proof!!!
  4. Brownells is one fine company. I had a friend pass away a year ago and he had a bunch of stuff from Brownells in his inventory. Some in original packaging and some not. I found one invoice that had some of the items on it and his customer number. I called them and asked about the possibility of a return on all the items. No problem. They issued a check to his wife for the returned merchandise that was actually for more than i thought it would be, over $500.00. They have my business for life.
  5. That's odd. My VM is over a year old and has run low recoil reloads that choked my M2 constantly. Kicks less too. I would do the trade and if there is a defect, back to remington for the fix.
  6. I have run about 5 k 9mm through a Kimber 38 super single stack with no problems. I have seated the 147 gr. bullet to same OAL as the super, though. It's one the most accurate handguns i have with that combo. I did not have to change the extractor but YMMV. I do run the 9mm brass through 38 super plates on my Case Pro. Depending on how tight your chamber is on your 38 s/sc, you may have seating problems with the 9mm since it is a tapered case and the others are not. Nominal dimension at the head in 9mm is .0391 and the supers are .0384. Not a lot of difference but still there. As to head spacing on the case mouth, all you have to do is mike a bunch of cases from different makers. There goes that theory.
  7. I am so sorry for your loss. My wife, Kathy and I have been there 8 times and it is NEVER easy. We have two now and will have more in what future is left to us. We could not imagine life without dogs. It hurts when they go, It would be unimaginal without them.
  8. My big black lab/something mix doesn't abide with a below the door knob rule. Four large pork chops off the platter on the island in less than a minute my wife was out of the kitchen. Yeah, he had the LOOK.
  9. There are some pretty good deals on 28" guns out there now. Did a search a few days ago and saw 2 under $900.
  10. I tested eight different 3.5" turkey loads through mine last spring, probably about forty rounds. I had no problems (other than my shoulder) VM or not they do pack a wallop.
  11. Do yourself a favor and shoot it first as issued. It's only a couple of bolts to take the butt stock off, not a big deal and you get the same portability as with the folder. That thousand bucks will go a long way toward setting up to reload. I had excellent results with Hornady's setup. I used IMI brass, H 50 BMG. powder and Hornady Amax 750 gr. bullets . That load was half minute out to 500 yards , the longest distance I have on my property. Unfortunatly in NW Indiana there aren't any 1000 yd or longer ranges within reasonable distance so it went down the road . You should check out the Fifty Cal Shooter's Association. They were there from the start and are a great info source. Have fun with it.
  12. If the multi focal contacts work anywhere near as good as multifocal implant lenses, they would be great for you. Due to cataracts, I had multi focal lenses implanted two years ago and they are GREAT. Perfect vision at any distance. My open gun hasn't left the safe since.
  13. The only problem I can see with this method is if the case mouth is dented in alot. The trim die won't expand it back out and if there is a bigger dent, the expander will push it back out and the case mouth *MAY* not be uniform all the way around. Have you had any issues like that? No I have not but I inspect my cases and discard any that have been stepped on and the case mouths crushed or heavily dented. I've loaded in excess of 20 K rifle rounds this way with no problems but I still case gauge every round.
  14. On my 650 my method it to size and trim using the trim die only. I then tumble clean and remove the case lube from the cases. Since the cases are already sized and trimmed to length the only remaining step is to deprime and expand the case mouths which can be done as you are actually reloading. I do this by running up the size die so it does not contact the case at all and running the expander/decap rod down far enough to do that. Before I adopted this method I had the problem of case lubed cases transferring lube to the powder funnel which would trap powder grains against the shoulder of the funnel that prevented a good seal of the case mouth to the powder funnel shoulder . This allowed powder grains to escape the case which obviously isn't the way to a consistent powder charge. Since you are now loading a case lube free case, my current method insures a consistent powder drop.
  15. Whichever press you get, 550 or 650, you would do well to consider Dillon sizer dies for your straight wall cases. They have a radius at the mouth of the die which eliminates cases hitting the edge of the die when the ram is raised. I had that problem loading 38 spcl cases with a RCBS size die. It didn't happen on every case but enough to be a real pain in the rear having to hand align it into the die. I don't know if it WILL be a problem with shorter cases like 9mm or 45 acp since I went blue on those calibers when I started loading them. I loaded on a 550 for a few years before upgrading to a 650 in 1994!!! I have no idea how many tens of thousands or rounds have come off that machine and some of the parts are still original. So if you do want to "buy once, cry once" the 650 will not disappoint.
  16. I shot 5 different 3.5" turkey loads with my c-rums modified carrier with no problems. One bird wished otherwise.
  17. I've been there more times than I want to count. The only things that help are remembering the good times and loving even more the ones still with you.
  18. Not a different world in that respect, just very poor writing. Read Hatcher's Notebook from the same era. None of that long winded crap in that one.
  19. This book has been out there since the 1930's by the best ( before Jerry) revo shooter ever. He may have been the greatest sixgunner but he is definately one of the worst authors ever. He sure had the knowledge but what he didn't have was a EDITOR. I have tried to get through this, but after a succession of 50 to 70 word sentences, my eyes glaze over and drool runs down my chin. One example, " The 'quick draw' as here outlined, means reaching for and producing a revolver or pistol from some sort of holster, scabbard, pouch or similar receptacle carried, hung, or secured somewhere on the person for the purpose of carrying and keeping such gun or pistol within convenient and easy reach of the hand of the wearer when wanted, or , by conditions or force of circumstances, urgently required for immediate use." Anyone know of an abridged version?
  20. Before it goes in the gun, it goes in the gauge. Major matches, club matches or practice, that's one distraction I can do without and I can control. And I NEVER pick up brass where major 9 is fired. I've seen too many case head separations and loose primer pockets to want to deal with that.
  21. Mine would run 3 dram - 1-1/8 as a minimum. And lots more recoil than a gas gun.
  22. If recoil is a factor, you do NOT want a M2. I had one for 2 years and it ran great but did need heavy trap loads for reliability. I got a 26" versa max and that thing runs loads that won't open the bolt on the M2.
  23. Yes you can ship in state. But a" common carrier" means UPS or FEDEX, NOT USPS.
  24. I agree. Great match with challenging stages, But hearing you "kids" in your 40's say you were burned near the end made me feel good since I have about 25 years on you. I was draggin about half way through. I wonder how much of a nightmare for the scheduling staff it would be to make all the squads half day squads.
