  1. A shoot like no other, an eight day party where you could shoot one main event or "shoot till you puke" ,or anything in between. I liked the back range, BCBC and LRPF. Mixed doubles and rolling thunder were COOL to. Course there were 8 pin, 9 pin, PE and Ballbuster. Man I MISS that Shoot.

  4. Matt, Congrats and God Bless. It will be 42 years for Kathy and me in July. I love her so. I wish you the same.

Yes..... But on the other hand, there are field champion animals that will never make truly good hunting dogs, because the tasks at which they excel in field trials may not reflect the reality of actual hunting. Many of the serious hunting dog people no longer put much stock in AKC field trial credentialing, for that reason. To give one example, around here when you see a "field champion pointer" for sale, the most likely reason he's for sale is because he's such a big runner that he's practically worthless for hunting pheasants on foot. But he won those field trials because the shooters and judges literally chased him around on horseback while he flew around and burned up the field. Not to mention the fact that his field champion pace may leave him too exhausted to hunt after an hour or two. Meanwhile, the talented, thorough, methodical upland pointing dog that consistently locates birds within reasonable range of the gun will never win the field trial "race," but will much more consistently produce results in the actual field. Just something to think about. Agree with you on pointers. Don't on retrievers. A retrievers job is to ----Retrieve. If they don't excel at that, they don't win trials. To say that kind of performance wont transfer to a hunting situation is like saying Tom Knapp may be able to break clays but probably cant hit a pheasant.

Tiny, I can only speak to retrievers. Champion means bench champion: aka SHOW DOG. Field Champion means a Working dog that has excelled in very demanding field trials that show the merits of a true working breed. Sort of like comparing a hunky model holding a gun he has never shot to Leatham or Jarrett.
  7. Wow, sounds like something right out of a John Grisham novel.

You can still find good Labs in this area. Being right between the Mississippi and Central flyways, there are enough serious waterfowlers around here to demand high quality retrievers. Watching a fully finished water dog do its thing is an absolutely remarkable experience. Some day I would like to own a good Lab myself. (Every truly good hunting Lab I've ever seen has been black in color. Whatever they've done to create "chocolate" or "yellow" Labs does not appear to have been a good thing....) Carmony, It's the breeding, not the color. There are more GOOD black labs, because there are more black labs. My latest sweetheart, Hannah, came from a litter of 4 blacks and 3 yellows. 3of the 4 grandparents are field champs, the other female has a lot of points. The sire is a FC and the Dam is a high point dog. at 9 1/2 months, she is scary smart and a real hotrod. Can't wait for fall.

I hear ya. Bench Champion means about as much as Beauty Queen.Long on looks, Short on brains. If it doesn't say FC (field champ) in the pedigree, you got a fashion model. If you want a hot HUNTING Lab, Call Mary Howley, Candlewood kennels in Wisconsin.
  10. Dwight, Don't mind at all.PM me if you need more. I remember you from the Masters when it was the MASTERS. Jim
  11. Eric's method works for me. I treat the FO front sight like it is the dot on my open gun. I'm hearing that not focusing on the front sight is the same as not SEEING the front sight. If thats your problem , then you got a problem. I see the FO lift off the target the same as a dot sight. I'm not conciously seeing the rear sight at all, but the front sight is centered perfectly when I do focus on it. When I do my part, The hits are there. But I can miss with my open gun too. I've only had one Serious social encounter and you can damn well bet I focused on THAT target when I broke the shot.
  12. : + 1. I have two STI limited guns built by Wayne Berquist about 10 years ago. Aslo a Glock 34. I casepro it all. shoot it all and it all works. Just lucky I guess.
  13. Ken, I just checked my barrell and it is 1:9 1/4. so much for memory. The Hornady Amax 105 is listed on the box for 1in 9 twist though. bc on it is .500, pretty close to the Sierra. You might try a box and see. Also had good results with Win WMR, though this no longer made. Jim
  14. A generator is your friend. I got one 5 years ago after an ice storm that left us without power for 4 days. You got to melt a LOT of snow to flush the toilet.
  15. Ken, I have a 700 SPS 24" that I believe is a 8 1/2 twist. Fitted it with a Cooley brake and Badger BM for the wife. With 105 hor amax and 47.5 accurate magpro , I'm getting 2950 fps and sub minute accuracy at 200. Haven't tried it out farther yet. It's a ball powder and meters well on my 650.
  16. No Mikes, There used to be a club that used a commercial range in NE Illinois. The business had a range on the 1st and 2nd floors. I think the problem was the range fee the owner wanted got to be too much to keep the club solvent. Don't think there's any problem with USPSA though. Jim
  17. Please check out B8 " or to a LICENSEE in any state". If youre going to ship interstate , the reciever MUST be a FFL. Was a FFL for 31 years and don't want you to get in trouble. The ATF monitors this site, I'm sure.
  18. Nice little 2 1/2 YO. Like to see him next year.
  19. It's hard to believe with the great amount of money USSA has invested in the range, why this problem is even there. They didn't just throw up some berms on existing terrain, the whole thing was earthmover city.Whoever did the design work really dropped the ball. A few degrees downslope to the backstops and some drain tile would have made it go away. The facility itself is awesome, just not for 800 people.
  20. Actually, I kind of like the SG stages where SHOOTING and not RELOADING is the main thrust. (even though I have been peacticing the hell out of my SG reloads)
  21. From the downloaded stage page: Start position- STANDING in box, facing downrange.-GUN READY CONDITION-Loaded as per rule 8.1, RIFLE AT PORT ARMS.
  22. Mull, You need to setup the trimmer on a separate toolhead. You trim and resize in this step, but the trim die does not deprime. tumble to delube. I back off my sizer die to not contact the case and set the decap/expander down far enough to deprime. Neck sizing is really not necessary since you already have full length resized in the trim die. Depriming at this point takes care of clearing media from the primer pockets and expanding the neck to proper size for bullet seating. They load as easy as pistol rounds this way. Jim S
  23. Kurt, thanks. I didn't realize slings were legal in tac/ltd uspsa. Can you start with sling attached? Jim S.
  24. I’m a one game gun guy,,, for now, I’m collecting parts for another toy, but not in time for the Nat’s I did get out and do some practice on that Rifle Standards stage, I don’t have 300, so just at 75 yds with the 10/22 and at 100yds with my AR. I played with it. I’m not the speedy, shooter most of you folks are. But I did OK, 7+ and I can get some good hits, but the mag change,, hmmmmmmm I’ll get out and try kneeling and prone, I’ll give this stage a good. A good match to be up to speed on your off hand shooting, with all the slugs, as well. I like that the match is not a pistol match! Hey squad 3 we are the Jim squad! Jim M ammo Looks to me that Squad 3 is the "OTHER SUPER SQUAD" J. Alley Don't I wish. Anyone have any good kneeling tips? I'm only slightly worse at that then offhand. Jim S
