  1. Why aren't you reloading with a round in the chamber?
  2. When shopping for my first pistol for USPSA, I looked at the Czechmate as I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to resist Open for very long, but $1K vs $3K I ended up buying a TS .40 and shooting Limited. I immediately started tinkering with my TS: mag well, race hammer (the best mod by the way), but I always had an eye on an Open gun, so when the opportunity to buy an SP01 slide arose the project began. what I have there is a 9mm TS barrel in an SP01 slide threaded M14X0.75 to match the factory tread of a small frame Witness compensator I bought from Numrich. Unfortunately their only three port comp was advertised as 9mm, but turned out to be .40. They've since changed the description, but I have scoured the internet for a better comp and have come up empty. With my new 100gr load the comp works pretty well, but they had some double feeds because they're so short, I think 115s will be perfect. I have a project in mind to fix the comp which I'll detail with pictures when I'm finished. Unfortunately there are no commercially available comps which work easily with the TS. In your case, starting with a 9mm TS, I would have a smith cut back the slide/frame and fit a custom cone comp. I've collected much of the Internet's collective knowledge on the subject of CZ/Tanfo interchangeability, so if you have any questions, just ask.
  3. The first thing you should know when modifying the TS is that it doesn't have a 5.4" barrel, but a 5.1" barrel; don't take my word for it, break out your ruler. If you want a thin grip and a short barrel, why not start with a 75B? Or an SP01? I have a Tanfoglio Open shorty with a compact slide and it takes a lot of powder to make Major and I wouldn't expect it to last very long that way. Compact barrels only use one lug whereas full sized barrels use two. I have my TS based Open gun, a Gold Team and the Tanfo shorty; I would be happy to share info and parts compatibility info.
  4. I may be the guy to talk to here...
  5. I've overcooked a few steaks like that. Its a damn shame...
  6. Stevie, The problem with that approach is that optimal loads with and without the comp are completely opposite. Non comped guns shoot softest with heavy bullets and fast powder, while comped guns like light bullets and slow powder.
  7. My CZ Open gun started life as a Tactical Sport .40. I used an SP01 9mm slide with a 9mm TS barrel I threaded M14X0.75 to match the factory small frame Tanfoglio comps Numrich sells. The one I'm using is a three port they advertised as 9mm, but is actually .40 (they changed the description for me and almost got it right...), but I have a plan to make it better The loads shot great except for the misfeeds. I only had a stage or two without any. I'm going to switch to 115s so I can load them longer and that should fix it.
  8. Its on the slower end. I just looked at my data and Clays, which is really fast, gained 37fps from 3.6gr to 3.8gr.
  9. On Saturday I experimented with some 100gr Open loads; they were short (1.077"), but they worked perfectly in my Friday night function testing... First stage went off without a hitch, after the first shot in the second stage: jam, quick rack of the slide, double feed; one of those where you yank the slide and... nothing. I had to pull the mag, clear the round, reseat the mag and rack the slide. Where normally I would blaze away trying to 'make up' time, deltas and mikes galore. Instead a calm washed over and I shot the stage like nothing ever happened; all alphas! Ended up with a hit factor ~3, but it was my proudest stage of the day.
  10. With HS6 in my 9 Major loads, .2 grains got me 34fps.
  11. You did quit that job yet Grumpy?
  12. That seems crazy! Are you sure it's not 4.6??? If you still have any loaded I would pull one and weigh the charge.
  13. I don't bother, I just measure coil diameter to determine relative weight.
  14. I bought a Bomar cut 1911 sight which fit my EAA super sight cut right out of the box FWIW.
  15. No. The TS dove tail is slightly wider: ~9.3mm vs ~9mm nothing a three sided file with a safe side can't fix.
  16. That seems like a big jump! I've never loaded with VV, but that sounds crazy. How many shots did you average in each batch?
  17. I shot a steel match with 3.2 gr of Clays behind a 230gr pill through my Hunter and that felt like a pussy cat, I can't imagine shooting 9mm through the Hunter.
  18. The 100gr in my CZ75B felt pretty good and snapped back on target quickly, but if I want to make Minor I'll have to juice them up a bit; I think I still like the fat pills for Production loads. Oh yea, and those little bastards knocked over the steel without a problem.
  19. I shot a match today with the 100gr Open loads and experienced surprising accuracy; I shot one stage with all As and groups were tight (~1" spreads on easy targets). The only problem was some feed trouble (I could only load to 1.08"): I had half a dozen double feeds so bad I had to pull the mag and reload . I crono'd a whole bunch of combinations which I'll post tomorrow (I did have some rounds make Major in my CZ Open gun!
  20. Stock 4??? I've never heard of such a beast?!? I though he was shooting a Stock II?
  21. I know there are mixed feelings on this topic, but Big Dragon makes a really good knock off of the CR Speed Versa Pouch for airsoft which cost 30% of the real thing and work perfectly for Tanfo large frame mags.
  22. The current object of my desire: A blank canvas waiting for my masterpiece.
