  1. Shorter OAL equates to more pressure, but pressure doe not have a linear relationship to velocity.
  2. Overall Length: from the back of the round to the tip, that's it.
  3. The Limited is a large frame pistol and the TS is a small frame (albeit a wide bodied one).
  4. I actually like to use CZ triggers on Tanfos because the Tanfo triggers tend to be a little loose, this way I drill them out just enough to fit.
  5. Not many. The TS mag is shorter/fatter, the grips are different, the TS dovetail is slightly wider (although I plan to fit some TS sights to my Limited and Production Tanfos because they're awesome!) The hammer and trigger from the TS can be fit to the Limited, but not the other way because the holes are smaller on the CZ than the Tanfo.
  6. Unfortunately there seems to be this idea (at least in the mind of the 'beginner') that you have to 'work up' to Open, when in reality, I think I would've really benefited from staring in Open. Production is the natural place to start for so many, but when you think about it, it's one of the hardest divisions; reloads every ten rounds, no magwell, no 1 1/2# crisp SA trigger. It's hard to learn how to break down a stage, plan reloads, move and shoot all at the same time, if you can eliminate/minimize reloads, put a gigantic funnel on the magwell, and replace those pesky sights with a dot, it frees you to focus on the other aspects of the game. It's funny: after shooting Open for a while, I pulled out a box stock CZ75B at a classifier match and shot 15% higher than my other classifications. I think shooting Open helped me look at the big picture.
  7. When I first got into this sport I bought a Limited gun because I though I wasn't COOL enough for an Open gun, then proceeded immediately to turn it into an Open gun. Now that I have four Open guns, I've also discovered a fondness for Production; but I'm not really all that interested in shooting Limited, and if I do, it will likely be Limited Minor with the comp and Optic taken off one of my Open guns. I've gotten all into load development for 9mm and I never really feel like switching over to .40.
  8. Yes! Open is about pushing the envelope How flat can flat be? how fast is fast enough? The experimentation is part of the game (and the money hole )
  9. Shoot Open. You will not stop thinking about it until you do. Yes, an Open gun is expensive, but a Limited gun now and an Open gun in six months is more expensive. Caveat: do you reload? if you don't reload, don't shoot Open. If you do decide to shoot Open, watch the forums and buy a used Open gun, then when you decide what you like and what you don't you can have a custom one built; if you decide it's not for you, sell it for what you paid for it.
  10. I have bigger hands so I just cut down some stock rubber grips from a Witness steel I had lying around:
  11. Thanks Bill. I've never shot AC, but I do have HS6 and SP2. I've played with 124s from 150-180PF and just can't fall in love, 100s shoot awesome, but don't cycle reliably because they're so short, so 115s are on the way!
  12. My thoughts exactly! But in reality, I think it's the minerals suspended in the water which erode the rock. Hard water.
  13. Thanks Jake, The Thundercomp II and the Akai look unfired, have you had the chance to compare them yet? 9 or 38? Holes?
  14. It's sounds like you've got a plan all worked out. The 6" barrel runs $185 from EAA, and I suggest Numrich for the comp ($42). You'll also need a custom guide rod to index the comp.
  15. M4x0.7 I plan to do the same, I've seen it done and it looks pretty cool. Get set screws, cut them to the thickness of the frame, polish/cold blue the ends and screw them in from the inside with red Loctite.
  16. I got a couple of Glocks mixed up and fired a 9mm round down a .40 barrel... Made a funny sound, but no I'll effects.
  17. In my 9mm CZ with a 5.1" barrel makes 165PF with a 100gr bullet over 9.3gr HS6 and with a 124gr bullet over 8.2gr. It seems to me ~9 grains of HS6 is what you need to make the comp work well, regardless of bullet weight. I haven't tried 115s yet, but I think that's the ticket. I read some guys keep the powder charge the same between major and minor, but just use lighter bullets; others drop the charge way down (~5 gr) with a 115 and just the weight of the comp keeps the muzzle down. I had feed problems with the 100 grainers because I had to load them so short (1.076") so I'm going to stick to 115s.
  18. It depends, what kind of comp do you have? 9mm or .38 super? 115gr for sure. Your setup might run flattest anywhere between 5 and 10 grains.
  19. The only drawback to loading super long is you need more powder to get the same PF in a shorter OAL. I don't know if there's a linear relationship between powder charge and felt recoil, but they're definitely a linear relationship between powder charge and money!
  20. A large frame Tanfoglio barrel is 15mm (0.590551") in diameter and the cone comps are threaded 0.575x40 so I figure I can make it work. I see the Cheely comp only has two upward ports, does it need holes in the barrel to shoot flat?
  21. So I'm looking at the Brazos ThunderComp II, but it's pretty long and I think it's steel so I image it makes a full sized pistol steer like a battleship. This is to replace the V12 barrel (12 holes with a 2 port comp) on my Tanfoglio (I'm aware its designed to a 2011, this is a custom project). I've seen the FGW comp which looks short/light, but I've heard it doesn't work well without holes? It may just be a fact of life that you either need a big long comp or barrel ports to get a flat shooting gun, but I'm just hoping to hear about a magical short/flat gun with no holes.
