  1. The Henning 140mm pads are designed to work with his mag well and you don't have to change springs/followers to use them.
  2. You should be fine with Henning's magwell, as you can see it adds quite a bit of length to the bottom of the frame. Although I'm pretty sure none of your base pads will work without heavy modification.
  3. I have a few left from my most recent batch:
  4. Not all 9 major is created equal, 9.4gr of 3N38 under a 115gr JHP @1.161" makes 170.5pf and comes right out of the Vihtavuori load manual, by comparison the max load for Winchester Autocomp under a 115 JHP makes just 133.5 pf; loading longer helps stretch it out, but the pressure is still higher at the same velocity. When pushing the envelope on making major, I prefer a heavier bullet to a faster powder. You might even enjoy a slow powder under a 147gr bullet.
  5. Welcome, I also shoot Pala from time to time although I find it easier to shoot Thursday nights at Iron Sights or Sundays at the Gun Range San Diego. If you ever want to try Open drop me a line!
  6. You can do it! Maybe I'll make a photo tutorial
  7. Why not sell it and buy an open gun? It seems like a shame to chop up a nice limited gun?
  8. When I first got into USPSA I shot a range rental Tactical Sport in 40 and fell in love First and foremost I loved the trigger; when I was young I shot 25M Rapid Fire Pistol with a Walther OSP 2000 which had a trigger pull weight of 47g (that's 0.1 lbs for you English folk!) so I'm a real trigger snob as you may have gathered from my DA tuning thread: CZ Tuning101 with Professor Atlas. I had seen othershootershooting Open and knew that's where I really wanted to be, but I wasn't yet reloading, the Czechmate had a prece tag nearly three times as much, and lastly I was scared of being a noob stepping up to the line with a $3,000 race gun on my hip and making a fool of myself. So I bought a Tactical Sport and promply began turning it into an Open gun Six years and dozens of guns later I've got a nice collection on CZ Open guns:
  9. Shooting an Open gun and reloading go hand in hand, but if you're not rolling your own yet, you can try commercially manufactured 9 major from Everglades (http://www.evergladesammo.com/9mm-major-power-factor-124gr-jhp-ammo-new.html) or Atlanta Arms (https://atlantaarms.com/products/9mm-major-147gr-jhp-elite.html)
  10. It looks like it from the picture
  11. Yes, it's longer and it's not a direct replacement as the distance from the slide to the first port is shorter.
  12. I love the idea of carrying a three pound gun with a two pound trigger!
  13. It's slightly better, but nothing like a good comp:
  14. It's definitely a hassle to back up a 2011 with a CZ: different mags, different holster, different ammo length.
  15. Nothing unusual, it looks like an early '90s competition frame, they used to sell them as bare frames. The hole pattern is definitely "custom".
  16. 9s come with the two barrels, 38s do not, reason being factory 38 super ammo will cycle the V12, but factory 9 will not; I'm sure if they sold a factory gun which would function without custom loaded ammo, they'd get some warranty complaints. I believe the V8 Gold Team was the predecessor to the V12, it has a 1/4" longer slide, fewer holes and a three port comp. You can certainly rebarrel the 38 to 9 with a new barrel and comp for ~$700 + mags.
  17. That's a very strange frankenpistol; the slide is a small frame, standard length with a 4.5" barrel, it has a taper, so it originally came from a short dust cover frame, but the frame is unlike any Witness I've ever seen, the beaver tail looks like a Jericho (manufactured by Tanfoglio so that make sense) and the grip screw is low like a Jericho, but the shape of the back strap isn't quite right, not Jericho, nor Witness. There's no provision for a magwell which makes the checkering unusual, the hammer is on a roll pin (Witness competition frames have a solid pin), and the frame looks to have been cut back a quarter inch. The four hole pattern of the optic holes are for newer mounts, maybe drilled recently. New small frame parts should work, but it would have to be real cheap for me to pick it up.
  18. You're over thinking it, just use the same ammo in both guns. If you want lower pressure loads, use a slower powder.
  19. No, most Tanfoglios imported to the US are large framed, some are not unfortunately there's no hard and fast rule to guide you, you just have to look at each individual pistol and figure out it's frame size. Do you have a particular pistol in mind? If you post a picture I can tell you.
  20. Does this mean you have a line on a CM for $2K or a CM for $2K off retail? Either way, get it! That's a smoking deal! Czechmates are awesome right out of the box, they run, the mags work, they already have a sub two pound trigger. If I ever had a complaint, it's that they're a touch nose heavy, so I came up with an aluminum comp, and I just got some aluminum guide rods I'm eager to try next week.
