  1. "Shoots really flat", " the dot never leaves the glass" It seems like there are a lot of Open shooters emotionally invested in the superiority of their gear and I tend to believe most of them are full of crap So I recently picked up the new GoPro capable of some decent slow motion work and came up with a method to get some real data on "flatness". I'd like to believe I can be objective about the gear because I have it all! Tanfoglios, CZs, 2011s and dozens of comps. I have pages of load data and the following list of powders in my reloading cabinet: SP2 3N38 N105 Longshot HS6 Autocomp CFE pistol Silhouette There's enough possibilities to make your head spin. Today I tested my two shortest, lightest guns (both 38SC): Bedell Super Shorty 2011 with a 4.4" bull barrel with three 1/8" holes and a Ti comp (42.5oz); Tanfoglio custom Y7 Gold Team with a 5", three 5/16" holes and 4 1/8" holes in a V pattern and an aluminum comp (43.3oz). Both guns chrono about the same and the load tested should be right around 165pf: 124gr MG JHP at 1.250" over 9.1gr SP2. Without further delay, here are the videos: I have plans to stroke the Tanfoglio by 0.200" and am very excited to compare footage.
  2. I use a chop saw and a hand threader: I eyeball the muzzle square, then polish it with sand paper down to 2500 grit, it's always worked really well for me, I've probably done over a dozen at this point.
  3. The travel/reset is dictated by the hammer/sear so its worth changing those out, my best Tanfo trigger uses a hammer from a CZ Tactical Sport, but it took a lot of modification. As for pull weight reduction, the reduced power trigger return spring is the best way to shed a half pound, after that it's all about polishing.
  4. Here's a small frame I recently gave to a machinist buddy to play with, I've since stroked it and it shoots pretty well. I plan to take some slow mo video of it soon.
  5. Slightly higher dot, slightly smaller glass, the only upside was the weight, but it wasn't enough reason for me.
  6. I already sold the RTS2, I'm sticking to horizontal slide rides across the board
  7. 8.3gr of HS6 under a 124gr Xtremes RN at 1.140" made 164pf in my 9mm GT.
  8. I have owned a few which were matte/gloss just like the factory Limited slides.
  9. Dave, I'm going to risk coming off as a jerk and give it to you straight: "arthritis in my hands" "looking for the most manageable recoil possible" "I do not have the time or patience to handload" "no time to fiddle with things" I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Open is not for you I shoot Open, I LOVE to fidlde with guns/loads, I'm young, strong and I still get pains in my hands from time to time. "my eyes are becoming old fart eyes, so I find a red dot a lot easier to work with" Don't fret, USPSA has just created Carry Optics specifically for you
  10. I have a Tanfo with a 9mm slide and 38 super barrel which will not chamber 38 Super brass, only Supercomp. The 9mm breech face is slightly smaller than the 38 Super. I do have a 38 super slide for sale though
  11. Yes, the recoil of the .40 GT will be similar to a .40 match. No, factory ammo will not work the ports/comp effectively.
  12. If you want to shoot major without reloading, 40 is the cheapest way, but without handloading the comp really does do anything for you. Why no reloading?
  13. Welcome Dave! I'm a Tanfo junkie too if you're not going to reload and don't care about making major, why not 9mm? Based on what you've said I think a 9mm Limited with a CMore would make you very happy. If you want the cool looks of the holes and the comp you could go with the 9mm Gold Team, but without handloading the right powders, the holes/comp don't make it shoot any flatter. A 40 GT is going to be hard in your hands using factory ammo and factory 38 doesn't give you anything factory 9 will except more cost.
  14. Who said anything about modifying the frame?
  15. Yes, if you do the mods detailed in the link I posted above it will be virtually indistinguishable from a Shadow. Where in CA are you? I'm in San Diego
  16. CZ Tuning 101 with Professor Atlas Welcome to the forum!
  17. I use plastic GRs in all my CZs, saves weight
  18. Are all Xtreme HP's heavy plated? No, the regular plated bullets shoot acceptable groups at 10-15 yards, but look like a shotgun at 25. I can feel pretty confident at 25 yard headshots with the heavy plate, MG JHP blows my mind though
