I really like the DPP and the fact that it mounts directly to my Sig X5 Legion without a plate. I've got the 7.5 moa DPP on two X5 Legions, and a brand new unopened backup just in case. I do like the triangle dot. It's quick and easy to acquire and after two years of use neither has had any issues. However, the dot is kind of big. At matches with targets at a distance if you don't have the triangle set up to shoot precise at the top of the triangle, it pretty much covers the target. It's not that big of a deal as we normally don't shoot too many distance targets in our sport, but it does happen. Anyone that used the 7.5 moa DPP and moved to the 6 moa have any thoughts or comments? Good move? Bad move? Indifferent?

I've got 6 custom Canyon Creek 1911's built by Rich Dettelhouser. 5 of the 6 are built with Spfld frame and slide per his recommendation. Everything you mentioned is also what Rich mentioned to me and his reasoning for using Spfld frame and slide. Of course he then does a tremendous amount more with hand fitting new internals, trigger, barrel, and bushing, snake bellies the top of slide, cuts down the grip and adds his magwell, hardtails the beavertail grip safety, squares the trigger guard, etc., etc., etc. But his preferred starting point is the Spfld frame and slide.

I do really like DW. I have a couple PM9's and a .45 Silverback. In my humble and non-expert opinion DW makes the best production 1911 on the market. But owning a full custom just gives you a feeling you just won't get from a production or even semi-custom. Granted, one of those feelings is feeling more poor.

I was on your squad when a few of those "incidents" happened! Of course Kyle will say an Infinity is the only way to go. And I wouldn't disagree (you've shot Infinity, too, and probably wouldn't disagree) but isn't the wait time pretty extreme right now? Plus, I like the idea of using a gunsmith that also shoots some of our local matches and is easy to see in person (Mark). The custom smith I used and swear by (I have six of his builds) has now retired from full builds (Kyle has one of his 1911's, too), or I'd recommend him, too. Pretty sure you know who I'm referring to. Of course, you could always get Kyle to build you one!

Michelle, you should talk to Mark at Carne Custom. Practically in your backyard and he builds a great 1911. I bought one of his first 1911's (a 9mm he built from a Spfld frame an slide) and it runs flawlessly and smooth as glass bearings. As you know, the 9mm can sometimes be finicky, but Mark builds a problem free gun. I've had friends run it in several matches and it's been flawless. Clark ran it last year at the PASA SS match (you were on our squad). So if you are looking at a .45 no question Mark could easily make that non-problematic and also be a great looking 1911. He'd be the guy I'd go to for a custom build today.

I've done a lot of RO'ing over the years, too, including level 2 and 3 matches. And I own a lot of 1911's. Been fascinated with the 1911 for a long time. From semi custom to full custom. And unlike you, I actually own and shoot LB's (I have five of them). And like any production or semi custom 1911 manufacturer, they can sometime put out a less than optimal running gun. But saying a Taurus gives better reliability than a LB is just an ignorant comment.

Gotta call BS on this, based on actual experience. I've used a LB Concept V and a LB Premier II for several years in USPSA matches without issue.

My Canyon Creek Single Stacks by Rich Dettelhouser. I rarely ever shoot SS, but i'll never sell these. Two are.45acp, three are .40s&w, one is 9mm.

I started out with the XDm 5.25 with a Vortex Viper when CO first started and had a lighter weight restriction. The XDm was great and exceeded what my abilities could deliver. But because i was shooting a Shadow 2 in Prd, when the weight for CO increased i also went to the Shadow 2 in CO, also with a Vortex Viper. I love everything about the Shadow 2 and thought it was my forever CO gun. I had a Sig X5 and was pretty underwhelmed with it. When the X5 Legion came out i didn't think too much of it.....until i shot my buddies with a GGI curved trigger kit installed and a DPP. For some reason beyond my comprehension, i could shoot more alphas and at a faster rate than with Shadow 2. So, that's what i've been shooting since last year and love it. I've got the GGI curved trigger kit installed. A tungsten guide rod. And a DPP with 7.5 moa. I'd prefer a DPP with a 5 or 6 moa, but since they don't make that the 7.5 works fine. Ever since i turned 50 a few years ago, the biggest change in my physical being that has effected my shooting is my eyesight. Without glasses on i have a hard time reading stuff even on the TV. So now i'm shooting CO almost exclusively.

I've had Primary Machine mill two Shadow 2 slides, an SP01 Shadow slide, and an SP01 Tactical slide for optics. Fantastic work every time.

I think I must be going through the same type of issue. I did, however, just order a Browning Citori CXT with the plan of getting more involved with trap shooting. I had a great time with it.

The Citori is shooting 70/30? Maybe that was the issue, that I was shooting under the clay with my misses with Benelli? My Super Vinci patterns out at 50/50. I also have the C shim in my Benelli.

I have a modified choke on my Benelli. Not sure what my buddy had on his Citori barrels (maybe modified and full)? And it could be the Citori just fit me really well, but I always shoot extremely well with the Benelli Super Vinci when pheasant hunting.

I've pheasant hunted for years, but have never really shot trap. About a week ago i shot trap with some buddies. Brought my trusted Benelli Super Vinci that i use to pheasant hunt. In pheasant hunting in the Dakota's, i shoot very well. But when trying to shoot clays, i missed enough that it was embarrassing. About a 70%-75% sucess rate. My buddy let me use his Browning Citori CXT, and it was like night and day. I was crushing almost all the clays, about 90% success rate. I felt like i almost couldn't miss. I'm no expert in shotgun knowledge, so can someone who is explain why there would be such a difference in hitting clays?

Definitely it may be frustrating in the beginning as you "lose" the dot. But it gets much better over time. Definitely don't try to jump back and forth shooting both Production and Carry Optics. If you are going CO go all in. I tried doing both for awhile and it just makes it difficult finding the dot in CO because i index the gun differently in CO vs Production.

I just saw one this week at Scheels for $899 and one at Farm & Home for $899.

I use a Tubbs flat wire spring in all my AR's. I think it's an incredibly inexpensive way to greatly improve full cycling reliability and reducing recoil.

Why would Max use a standard X5 upper vs an X5 Legion upper on his X5 Legion lower? What is the difference between the two uppers? I have X5 Legions set up for CO and for Production. But I never knew there was a difference in uppers from the standard X5 to the X5 Legion?

I noticed a few on the shelves at our local Scheels and at Big R this weekend. $899 at Scheels and $999 at Big R.

I do try to get my friends to shoot SS. I loaned out three of my 1911's to people that had never shot SS in USPSA and didn't own a SS so they could shoot the PASA Park Single Stack match this year. No, they won't go out and buy a 1911 and go all in on SS, but it would be great to see them keep shooting this match to see it continue to grow every year and keep it alive. I was mostly sharing an observation about the massive decline in SS participants the last few years. And I hate to see SS fade away as I enjoy shooting a 1911 in a match or two per year. I've never considered it for my main division, even when it was more popular. Production, and now also CO, have always had much more appeal to me. But I have a definite appreciation for SS division with its stage planning strategy, the need to make every shot count, and ability to reload quickly and often.

Just an observation, but I noticed at the Area 1 match there were a total of 13 SS competitors. I've noticed this year most level 2 and 3 matches have very few SS competitors. I rarely shoot SS, usually once a year at the PASA Park Single Stack Match, and it's a great time. I love 1911's. I have several. But I've always preferred Production and now CO. I hate to see SS fading away like it is, but I'm not sure what can be done to increase the number of participants?
