  1. The new magwell works great. Used it in USPSA competition last weekend and it definitely helps. I've got fairly big hands, and the new magwell definitely gives me much more support on the front strap of the frame versus the stock magwell that came with my X-5 Competition. After using the magwell you made for me, I can't imagine using the stock magwell. And, because its a more encompassing magwell all around the mag opening, I don't have to glance at the magwell when inserting a new mag "on the run." I can keep my eyes on target, the gun high, and just feed the mag right into the magwell and it directs it where it needs to go. It's a definite improvement.
  2. I own an FNP45 that is without question my favorite polymer gun. I don't use it in competition, but it's an outstanding gun. I currently own an XDm45 and an XDm40, a Ruger SR9 and I've owned a Glock 31 and an M&P 40, and I much prefer FNP models to any of the other polymer guns. FNH is making some excellent guns.
  3. I received today my new magwell made by Danny Woodard (Staudacher on this forum) and couldn't wait to get it on my Sig P226 X-5 Competition .40s&w. This is the gun I use in USPSA Limited. See attached pic. After reading several posts by other Sig P226 X-5 members regarding this magwell, I ordered the Standard Magwell. It's fantastic! The fit couldn't be any more exact. It fits incredibly snug, as it should, but doesn't require any special tools except a screwdriver. Slip the old one off, and slip the new one on (the new magwell takes some force, but nothing out of the ordinary). And, no work was needed on the grips. They fit right back on with out any issues. The factory X-5 mags fit perfectly. The Mecgar standard P226 mags required just a bit more filing down of the sides to fit. I had to file them down a initially a little to get them to fit into the original factory magwell, and just a little more filing got them to fit into this magwell. Danny, I'm really impressed! Your magwell looks great on my x-5, and it functions great, much better than the factory magwell.
  4. You could just buy an EAA Witness Elite Match, also two tone just like the CZ you're looking at, and order a few extra mags for just a shade over $600. As I'm sure you know, it's a CZ clone. Has a 4.75" barrel, 15 rd mags, and is crazy accurate. I have one and love it.
  5. These Basepadsmade by Lt. Col. Roger Sherman along with his springs and followers can get you up to 18. To get twenty requires a bit more effort. Thanks for the info. I sent an email to him to ask about ordering some base pads. Is it a simple install on my current Mecgar mags? Staudacher, also sent you a US Postal money order a few days ago to order one of your Standard version magwells for my x-5 competition .40s&w. Looking forward to getting it installed on my gun.
  6. Can anyone lead me to a higher capacity mag than the currently available 15 rd Mecgar mags? I am using a Sig P226 X-5 Competition in .40s&w for USPSA Limited. It came with the two Sig mags, and I bought eight 15 rd Mecgar mags (had to file down the sides a little, but after that they fit just fine in the magwell). However, I've searched everywhere for higher capacity mags than just 15 rounds. I've read the threads where Roger Sherman sells a "mousetrap" mag extension that will get me to 18 rds. Don't know much about it. Can anyone give me an idea on what the "mousetrap" costs and do any modifications need to be done to the mag? It would just be a lot easier to buy a high capacity mag with 16, 18, or 20 rounds. And I know Promag makes a 20 rd .40s&w mag for the P226, but I've read many negative comments about these mags, even though I've never used them myself. Does anyone know of a 16 rd mag or higher that is made for the Sig P226 .40s&w? Thanks.
  7. Hi Dirk, I'm really enjoying the shooting competition of USPSA and really want to make an effort to not only have fun, but really start improving my skills. I see how well you and a lot of the other guys at Thursday night league, Lefthanders, and Havana shoot and score and would like to get to that level someday. I'm sure I'll see you at some of the upcoming competitions. Joel
  8. Staudacher, Thanks for the quick reply to me email regarding my question on which magwell to buy. US Postal Money Order is in the mail today. Can't wait to get the Standard Magwell on my X-5 Competition!
  9. Just joined the forum yesterday. Been hunting and shooting all my life, but just started shooting USPSA about a year ago. Having a lot of fun with it. This forum is fantastic! I can't believe all the good info available on competition shooting.
  10. Welcome! Just joined myself yesterday. I currently live in central IL, but originally from the small town of Granite Falls, MN, where the MN River splits the town in half. My dad still lives there. I've never been to Heaven, but I've been to Minnesota!

    What would you get?

I own several Sigs (P226 X-5 Competition .40s&w, P226 Diamond Plate 9mm, P226 Bi-tone .40s&w, P220 Elite Match SS .45acp, and a few Sig 1911's), so I'm definitely biased to Sig products. I don't own an H&K but I am aware they are also high quality guns. I'd recommend about any 4.4" barrel P226 model in .40s&w. This also gives you the option of changing caliber as well, as you could buy a .357 sig drop-in barrel and use the same .40s&w mags, and you could also buy a 9mm drop-in conversion barrel for the P226 .40s&w, but would also need to buy a reduced recoil spring and 9mm mags. But it gives you more options. You CAN'T convert 9mm to .40s&w, but you CAN convert .40s&w to 9mm. Just a thought.
  12. Question for Staudacher: I have the X-5 Competition .40s&w model, but I have 8 Mecgar 15 rd extended mags, and two factory mags that came with my X-5 Competition. I have shaved off some of the base pad on the Mecgar 15rd mags and they now fit just fine in my current magwell on my X-5 Competition model. The Standard Magwell will offer me the greatest flexibility for mag use. So, I assume the Standard Magwell will also fit on my X-5 Competition model and I don't need to order the Competition Magwell? Thanks. As soon as I get a response a US Postal Money order will be in the mail.
  13. Just sent you an email through this site. I would like to buy one for my X-5 Competition model. Thanks.
