  1. If your gun lights off CCI primers, then it has a fairly heavy action compared to what is state of the art in competition revolver action work today. Randy Lee deserves primary credit for the existence of today's state of the art. He was willing to push the envelope further than anyone had in the past.
  2. FWS, you show me a stock Colt DA revolver (leaf spring or coil) that doesn't stack, and I'll show you a whore that ain't had the clap. A factory Python or Dick Special will stack every bit as bad as a GP-100 or Security-Six. There are a few good revo-smiths who know how to get rid of the well-known Colt stacking problem. I don't know how they do it, but I believe it has something to do with re-configuring the bends of the mainspring. More trouble than it's worth.....although I guess if you like really nice polishing and bluing, older Colts are where it's at.
  3. I have a 6" Benny Hill 9mm 2011 with a lightened slide that I bought for steel matches. Y'know, it's a nice gun, but I've had a hell of a time getting it not to cycle sluggishly. I can't stand to feel the gun go "chunk-chunk" every time I fire a shot. I have seriously considered trading it off for a decent 5" 9mm. My 95-gr. rocket 9mm loads help speed up the action some, but I still don't know.....
  4. All well-rounded handgun shooters should know how to shoot a revolver competently. On the other hand, all well-rounded handgun shooters should be proficient with auto-loading pistols also.
  5. Sounds like it's knuckling. Usually that's from not enough arch in the mainspring, in conjunction with a strain screw that is too short, or has backed out.
  6. Some people have the problem arise much sooner than others. I believe some people have rough handling or excessive dry-fire habits that exacerbate the problem. I don't think it has anything to do with the load you're shooting--it's all about how many times and how hard the cylinder stop slams into place. And sooner or later it happens to them all. The metallurgy on the stainless cylinders sucks dong. The Ti cylinder is one solution to the problem. I like the carbon steel cylinders from 25-2s even better. Not much else you can do, other than constantly try to keep up with the problem and periodically dress the notches and replace the stops and springs.
  7. Yeah, I still use those cheap moonclips stamped out of old soup cans for .45 ACP. Old habits, I guess. But for my 8-shooters, it's HEARTHCO all the way! I've got 80 of those babies!
  8. Check this out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4OE78spknk
  9. Actually, I believe the Metro Arms products (American Classic, MAC1911, SPS, etc.) are manufactured by a completely different company in a completely different facility from the Armscor products (Armscor, Charles Daly, Rock Island, etc.).
  10. Check to be sure the female threaded part of the extractor isn't cracked. That can happen if the rod is over-tightened. I have even seen splits in that spot in brand new guns from the factory. The fact that your rod keeps unscrewing makes me suspicious that this might be happening.
  11. They were welding 2 half moon clips together at Second Chance in the early 80s. I'll bet that was John Lazarro. I've always heard he was the first one to think of that.
  12. When the gun works fine for a period of time, then suddenly starts to intermittently skip, getting rid of the speed bump is the fix. If there is a true dimensional issue with the stop notch engagement, the gun will presumably have problems from the start.
  13. Aren't you the 2013 Idaho Section Champion in Limited-10, where you chose to compete against a whopping 4 other L-10 shooters rather than the 54 shooters who were competing in Limited Division? People who live in glass houses......
  14. Seriously, Neomet is 78? My gosh, he doesn't look a day over 70!!
  15. I think we are seeing very nice improvement from USPSA in all those areas.
  16. PM me the serial number on the Carmonized gun and I will be happy to check my bound book to confirm its authenticity. No charge of course.
  17. yes, sight radius. I think most shooters prefer the balance of the 5"guns. BUT, I think it matters less shooting minor.
  18. Those guns are sweet. I own a few!
  19. Nothing is wrong with the 627 Pro Series. The only problem is that the 4" barrel is not optimal.
  20. Forget it. It's been rumored for years.
  21. I look at it differently, I guess. People are getting way more frantic than necessary here. I attribute it to lots of first-time nationals attendees who are nervous and overly excited.
  22. If you really want to watch the big boys play, the way to do that is to put yourself on the opposite schedule. I think it's unwarranted and a little offensive to call it "incompetence."
  23. First match I ever shot, back in 1987. The Colt is long gone, but I still have that Wilson mag.
