  1. It's easy to re-establish the crown. It's a simple piloted chamfering reamer that can be easily turned by hand.
  2. I load all my short colts hot enough that they make 134ish PF out of my slowest gun (which happens to be my 6.5" 27-7, oddly enough).
  3. I'm a big believer in the 38 Short Colt concept, and in fact I don't bother with 38 Spl at all anymore.
  4. Cliff and Sam and I went to see it on a free night at the Pro-Am last weekend. We all thought it sucked!
  5. I would suggest just buying a new one from Shooters Connection. They aren't expensive and are usually in stock.
  6. Dean, you sound exactly like Sam. He just told me over the weekend that he doesn't think he will ever get DQ'd. This is what I told him: Sooner or later, it happens to almost everybody who shoots a lot of matches. Even the safest and most responsible shooters can inadvertently violate a safety rule. Lewiston cites an excellent example in his scenario above where the gun barrel snags on the snow fence wall. I had a similar DQ in which my loaded gun fell out of a CR Speed holster on a stage where you had to start on one knee, and then on the start signal jump up and throw a dummy grenade at a barrel downrange with your strong hand. I must have bumped the gun during my wind-up, because when I went to draw, it was already on the ground. Heck, I know of a situation where a competitor was DQ'd from an area match because the RO's rain jacket got snagged on his gun and pulled it from the holster prior to the "range is clear" command. If someone who has shot for a long time tells me he has never DQ'd, I would question what type of matches he shoots, and whether he might have shot most of those matches at places where the rules have not been enforced all that rigorously. Because stuff does happen--and sooner or later it will likely happen to you!
  7. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like a early-series Colt Police Positive Special, chambered in .38 Special, with 4" barrel. These are built on the Colt D-frame, and pre-dated the Detective Specials and alloy snubbies that followed. They were common police duty revolvers, and are excellent guns for those with smaller hands. Although all Colt revolvers have jumped in value over the past couple years, this one has fairly severe condition issues that are going to prevent it from being worth more than a couple hundred bucks.
  8. Sounds like the kind of guy who keeps posting a 27-7 on Gunbroker for $2000.
  9. I like this idea, actually. There's something extra fun about beating a bunch of people with an old beater gun like that! One thing to consider--the 64s have silver-colored sights. Unless you want to constantly be dicking around with sight black or a carbide lamp, you might want to look for a Model 10, 13, 15, etc. instead.
  10. Bob is the Mad Genius of Revolver Division!
  11. I load 142-gr. MGs at 1.140" in short colt brass.
  12. Whether you use the plastic stand-offs, or the simple moonclip trick (which I personally invented, by the way!), be sure to leave them on your holder posts all the time. It's generally against the rules to add equipment during the match. (Ref: The "Nils' murse" controversy at USPSA Revolver Nationals about 10 years ago.)
  13. You could make a couple hundred flipping that bitch!
  14. Blue Bullet. I edited my post above to make it clearer.
  15. Thanks for the heads-up on these. I ordered a trial pack and have been experimenting with them over the past couple days. 3.9 grains of N320 at 1.140" OAL runs the 147-gr. Blue Bullet at 900 fps out of my 5" 627 (132 PF). Now I need to see how accurately it shoots at 50 yds!
  16. ICORE's board of directors and members (money plaques) TK Custom (Tom Kilhoffer) DS-10 Speedloaders (Dave Skrzela) North Mountain Moonclip Holders (Bob Perdue) Secure Firearm Products (David and Paul Surgi) Matt Griffin Doug Carden
  17. Results are attached, and will be posted shortly on the ICORE website. Thanks to everyone who attended--it was a great weekend! 2014 ICORE MRRC results.pdf

  19. More prizes for the random drawing: Our friends David and Tammy Surgi have donated some nice goodies from the lineup of Secure Firearm Products. Please be sure to keep all our generous sponsors in mind when considering your upcoming firearms-related purchases. Matt Griffin has also donated a nice prize for the drawing. Thanks, Matt! The random drawing will take place after the match on Saturday--must be present to win.
  20. Agree with Bubber. Clubs that are too cheap to pay the minimal cost to be fully afiliated with the parent organizations (whether USPSA, IDPA, ICORE, or whatever), are not helping anyone. But regardless, I wish you the best for your match. Sounds like you are doing everything you can.
  21. Sam said in my picture it looks like I'm crying into my sleeve. (And the way I stunk up Nationals this year, there is probably some truth to that.)
  22. Or just leave the cylinder alone and spend your time and money on something that matters! ;-)
  23. Good for you for helping put together this match. But next time, if you're benefitting from the ICORE structure and rule format, please give consideration to running it as a sanctioned ICORE event. It's important to support not just the local group, but the national organization as well.
  24. Update: International champion Rich Wolfe has generously volunteered to hold a free mini-class for the ICORE shooters on Saturday morning of the Midwest Regional. This will allow you to walk the stages with Rich, get tips on stage break-down and strategy, and ask questions on how to best approach the match from an ICORE perspective. This will be especially valuable for new (and newer) ICORE shooters, who are just getting their feet wet with the wheelgun. Plan to be on the range by 8:00AM on Saturday morning to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
