Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Plainfield Shooting Supplies, Plainfield, IN as of Saturday, June 12. Priced a little over $1,000, can't remember exactly. I just can't do it right now.
  2. it was interesting to see the different strategies used between the six and eight shot guns. It looked like you even threw an extra shot on stage four with the eight shooter? And maybe even wanted to throw one more at the end but thought better of it?
  3. Thanks, I've been finding lots of stuff on youtube including Brownells. Off we go on the yellow brick road (a new journey). Read the rules for USPSA, 43 ounces is the maximum weight for the pistol and empty magazine for single stack division.
  4. I think I had to change the hammer strut because it was a different length too. SA has that idiotic safety lock device in the housing. Ah, that is just the reason I need to justify the magwell/new mainspring housing. "Idiotic ILS" AND it will make a better trigger honey. Really! I was kind of leaning to just calling Dawson and the new lightweight ICE and whatever mags they suggest to go with it. Might as well order a front sight at the same time and save shipping. With a 17 lb mainspring and a hammer strut also, apparently. I've had a S&A magwell before and liked it. Any pros/cons between that and the ICE? Any concerns with weight of the gun that I should be aware of? Seems like I read something about that here somewhere. After much reading on this forum it seems people are pretty well split between the Dawson mags and the Tripps. Do I need any special tools to do the mainspring and hammer strut? It will be my first time.
  5. We got to shoot the SA today. Accurate, functioned fine with a variety of cheap practice ammo I had on hand. A nice blaster for sure. I think I would like to lighten the trigger pull. Any tips?
  6. Thanks everyone. I just returned from the gun store...Springfield Armory target loaded 9mm is in the house. We played "guess the trigger pull weight" at the gun store. Owner and I both guessed 4.5#, employee guessed 4.6#, and a customer watching the owner break the trigger guessed 2# (!). On a scale it turned out to be 6.1 #. I think the really clean break led us all to feel it was lower. After I brought it home Mrs. Tbear tried the trigger and said, "Is that it?" As in, that was pretty easy to pull. Most of her experience has been with a Glock so I thought she would like the trigger on the SA. We'll see how it wears in before we worry about improving on that. Plus one so far for the Springer. I'll report in after we shoot it.
  7. Looking to buy a 9mm 1911 for my wife to shoot singlestack USPSA. I have owned a couple of 2011's, but it's been awhile and I didn't have either for very long so my experience here is light at best. Differences SA vs. STI my thoughts I know the frames are forged vs cast . advantage SA for a life time, shoot a lot gun (or is it?) stainless vs blued actually kind of like blued ambi safety vs not meh, don't really care yet black front sight vs. fiber optic fiber optic better for competition, but not too expensive to change and may want to change anyway? She has small hands so will expect to swap out grips and magazine release. I would also like to add a magwell. I'm not a gunsmith by any stretch so any major fitting or tuning would require extra time and dollars so this is something I would like to avoid. It would be nice to have a blaster that runs well out of the box requiring only "personalization". Am I dreaming? Is it kind of hit or miss? I'm not sure why I would want to step up to the Trojan if it is a cast frame like the Spartan. My gun store has the SA for $899 in stock, not sure if he can discount the Spartan off retail or not. I welcome any thoughts.
  8. Uplula, uplula, uplula. Kind of rolls right off the tongue. Looks like a neat piece of kit, easier on my thumbs too. I will order one soon. Gracias, amigos.
  9. I am thinking of getting a 9mm SS STI, mostly for the wife to shoot. She has trouble loading Glock 19 mags, so my question is: Is there any difference in the ease of loading 10 rounds of 9mm in the Dawson, Tripp, or Wilson mags? If you read between the lines, you may notice that the Tbear doesn't want to have to load Mrs Tbear's magazines for her.
  10. "Do you go to the golf forums and find a thread on new drivers and write that you don't want a new driver and don't care how well you hit a driver because all you care about is putting? "-TGO " Golfers go through sets of clubs that are constantly changing... If you want to be considered or compete at this level, you will spend the money for the equipment, otherwise you are, and always will be a weekend player. This is partly what divides pro's from weekend duffers, no matter how good weekenders become." -lora I love golfing/USPSA analogies. No really. Holes/stages; clubs/guns; balls/bullets; foursomes/squadding. Stop me if you've heard this one before, "Why do you have more than one gun?" Answer: "Why do you have more than one golf club?" Just trying to lighten the mood, but on topic: I am a returning shooter (production and limited formerly) who would seriously like to get a 929 and shoot as many matches as I can afford to get to. It just looks like the most fun division. I was considering a 625, but I like the 8 shot minor idea better.
  11. Agreed. quote name="Hi-Power Jack" post="2146257" timestamp="1397658059"]If wife is newbie, I'd suggest starting her out shooting outside - less noise - real good ear muffs. Make sure she understands how to load/unload the gun, too. Check, check, and check.
  12. I was concerned about this. She managed the trigger well on this 686. It was a pretty decent trigger for a new Smith.
  13. "I believe the consensus for a new shooter is limited (usually minor) is the easiest place to start out. " That makes sense. I will use that idea. Hey RGS, are those Corgi's in your avatar? We have a Welsh Cardigan, Sugar Magnolia "Maggie". Neat dogs. Ours has never met anyone she doesn't like.
