  1. Oh about 550 or so for me, but they better put a big target out.
  2. I'm not seeing anything that's going to make a difference in 3 gun so I'm just going to continue shooting my VMT Now if it said "Remington's new shotgun will have the auto-load feature of an A5"... Now that I would get excited about
  3. For me, the only thing that really separates the two scopes regarding shootability is the red dot function. As with any optic I'm going to adjust it to fit me but the advantage I get with a red dot versus not having one matters. Like most people, I can shoot faster and more consistently with a dot than without a dot, so naturally... I want a dot. But... is that really worth another +$1k? To some people, hell yes! To others, hell no! If it was my primary gun & scope then personally I'd get it, but if it was a backup or loaner rifle then I would settle for a strike eagle
  4. I think thats a pretty solid deal, good find
  5. Wait is this trade for an MP rifle or MP pistol?
  6. I shot the Colt CRP-18 Pro in 2014 and 2015, which had a cycling issue at first. I resolved it by ditching the finger adjustable 24 position gas block and replacing it with a Seekins. After that the gun ran like a dream, the barrel shoots ~1 MOA with my 69gr load, and I have no complaints. It's a very capable rifle.
  7. Saturday & Sunday 15-16 April 2016 The first NRA 3 Gun class was a huge success with 14 students learning the in's and out's of action pistol shooting, shotgunning, close range rifle, and long range rifle. I was unsure if a 2 day class could be worth a $1500 entry fee but in my opinion, we delivered a world class shooting experience. The class is geared to people who have very basic shooting experience and no competition gear as everything is provided for by the range and all they have to do is show up. But beyond the gear provided (thank you Armalite, Benelli, Sig, Vortex and Red Hill Tactical), the level of instruction provided was unmatched with a specific emphasis on reaching each student personally to give them what they needed for success.
  8. Friday 15 April 2016 Today was the last day of prep before the NRA 3 Gun class. I built the training bay, measured and laid out some fault lines, shooting boxes, walls, plate rack, other steel targets, cardboard targets, etc
  9. Taught the first NRA 3-Gun class at Peacemaker, it was very successful. Shout out to event sponsors - Armalite, Benelli, Sig, Vortex and Red Hill Tactical
  10. I'll assume that you have a recoil reduced/controlled rifle already so I won't get into a technical answer and instead a technique answer. Your dot is not going to recoil straight up because unlike your pistol where you have tried hands on the gun at generally the same point in space, with the rifle you probably have one on the pistol grip and the other pretty far forward. As a result of that alone and the sway in your stance from supporting a rifle you may see a circle in the dot before and after recoil. Personally I see a figure eight wobble before recoil and a jump up when fired, and a messy figure eight when it settles. However this instability isn't something to be feared, just noticed. Stay on your sights and as long as your gun isn't recoiling off target send the next round.
  11. I need to get a single piece, non-ambi, left side of the gun only safety for my CZ 75 TS 9mm. Can I use any safety? Is there anything specific I have to do for the TS model?
  12. Sunday April 10 I went to Peacemaker today and assembled gear for the upcoming NRA 3 Gun class. Also when I got home I worked on my reloading setup and reorganizing my gun closet.
  13. Funny. If your budget is $1400 then you can either buy 4 strike eagles, 1 razor (JM-1 reticle), or 1/2 a Swaro
  14. I don't think an Armalite, Colt, or JP is going to lose an ounce of competitive advantage to anyone's custom built rifle when shooting 3 Gun. You may have a few personal preferences about a custom built gun that you like more such as ergonomics or aesthetics, but I doubt that's going to win you a match over another competitors very similar ~MOA shooting, lightweight, almost no recoil, race rifle.
  15. Wow. And I spent all that time learning how to quad load.
  16. In my recent thread concerning a possible Cowboy division, someone brought up a possible WWII division, and while we're on that note has anyone considered a Muzzleloader division? Not specifically Flintlocks but any 1865 or earlier muzzleloader of your choice WITHOUT optics (sorry blind people, aka scoped divisions) Cap and ball revolvers, no limit to how many you carry Muzzleloader shotguns Muzzleloader rifles Modern belt, holsters, slings, and speedloaders for any/every gun Now I know that some of you noticed above where there was no limit to the number of revolvers you could carry, and those of you excited for Cowboy division might think that's a little too much leeway for the Blackpowder boys to have, but remember these are cap & ball revolvers not those space age metallic cartridges you're used to so deal with it. And as you can see all the other gear can be modern. This is to encourage blackpowder speed shooting. Specialized carriers for extra revolver cylinders are encouraged, speedloaders for measuring powder charges, preloaded ball and shot drops, and of course you can bolt on whatever modern 1 or 2 point sling you want. Let's think out of the box to modernize these muskets! If you want to accessorize your guns for faster shooting and loading go for it. Install some modern sights, add some grip tape, do some stippling and even get a new cerakote. We all know the paintjobs make the guns shoot faster. Unfortunately sabre slashes won't be picked up by the shot timers so don't bother. Scoring would be HM just like Cowboy because of the longer reloads times Paper, 1rd anywhere (pistol or rifle) Bay Steel, must fall to score Clays, need 1 BB to score LR Steel, hits called by RO And any RO calling hits on LR steel is going to have to be far enough away from the shooter that they can see around the smokescreen put out by these guns. Anyone who's shot blackpowder knows what I'm talking about, you go from clear to cloud in a split second.
  17. Yeah wow thats great to hear, looking forward to it and thank you Trijicon
  18. My main drag with cowboy action shooting events is there isn't enough shooting! It's all super close range! Or worse yet, you have to dress up like Yosemite Sam.... But other than that its pretty fun! So imagine for a moment if there was more shooting, more distance, and... you could wear normal clothes! That's what I'm talking about creating here with a 3 Gun Cowboy Division. My vision is to have a single division with guns, gear, and calibers pretty wide open so can people will show up with whatever cowboy (1895 or earlier) stuff they want and shoot a 3 Gun match, scored separately. Single action revolvers any caliber but no comps or optics Double barrel, lever action, or pump action shotguns any gauge but no comps or optics Lever action rifles of any pistol caliber but no comps or optics Lever action rifles of any rifle caliber with one optic (magnified or not) Modern belt, holsters, slings, and speedloaders for any/every gun Essentially this would be a high round count, shoot and move + long range version of SASS without the numerous and overbearing requirements to keep guns "period correct". That's right, NOT trying to keep these guns period correct folks! Install modern sights, have a triggerjob done, use a modern scope and mount for the rifle, get a kydex holster for that six shooter, and use speedloaders for everything. Because of the low capacity and slow reload times for these guns, the scoring requirements would essentially the same as Heavy Metal division Paper, 1rd anywhere (pistol or rifle) Bay Steel, must fall to score Clays, need 1 BB to score LR Steel, hits called by RO To keep it simple, shooters would engage the same course of fire that normal 3 gunners are shooting except with modernized cowboy guns. The same penalties would apply and the same safety rules too - such as if you have to ditch a gun then safety on or empty. Or if your gun doesn't have a safety then it needs to be dumped empty. Another difference would be that Cowboy would be a PCC division because of the prevalence of pistol caliber lever guns. Choose one or both on any given course of fire, but the scoring remains the same.
  19. If the barrel and ammo shoots well then take the time to chrono your load so you really understand the ballistics. Know your long range holdovers and how to use your reticle, and barrel length won't matter. Rifle gas or mid length also won't matter much if you've got a nice brake and adjustable gas system. It's really all up to you, what do you want to shoot?
  20. Saturday 26 March Had a zeroing day at Wildest Expectations Farm and then BBQ afterwards. We started at 200 yards where I checked my competition rifles zeros. The 13 inch Armalite was dead center perfect with bullets on top of one another so I was very happy after not shooting it since October. The 18 inch Armalite was shooting high but centered with an unknown groups size but since I was hitting a skinny at 200.... I consider it ready to get the 300 yard zero finished. I should say that I remounted the Prismatic on the 18 inch Armalite which is why it needs an actual re-zero when the other gun does not. Both of these Armalite rifles really love the 69gr Stillwood Steadfast which has been my match rifle ammo now for 3 years. We moved in to 100 yards where I zeroed the other AR's that I bought with me - Colt 11.5 inch, BCM 11.5 inch, and a Colt 6920. Now they're all zeroed for 100 yards POA = POI with 55gr ammo but I'm going to have to ditch the 2 MOA dots because I just can't see them anymore. I need to move to a 4 MOA dot or I get different optics because the 2's look unreasonable for a precise point of aim. Even at lower intensity the distortion from my astigmatism is just too much to make it a useable sight anymore. Unfortunately the BCM clone is brand new and was experiencing a very regular failure to extract just about every other round. It has an H buffer and spring which is what it should have since its a clone of the Colt 11.5 Commando but it just won't run. Anyway, the gun is now zeroed for 100 yards but I'll have to re-do at some point anyway when I get some new 4 MOA optics. In the meantime the gun is not useful if its not going to run so I'm going to contact BCM and see what they're willing to do. I just bought this upper for the BCM lower I already had and I'm sure they'll take care of the problem - whatever it is. Next we went to 50 yards where I zero checked my Versamax and its shooting slugs dead on just as it was last season, no gripes there. So then I zero checked the FN SLP Competition Mk 1 shotgun I won at the NRA WSC and it was not exactly hitting where I wanted. I'm going to have to spend some more time with that gun and learn the Ruger rear sight... or have it replaced with a different adjustable which would be even better. I really don't like the multi notch sight picture and would prefer as close to what I have on my Versamax as possible (standard notch adjustable rear dovetailed into the vent rib) Also at 50 yards I zero checked my new Colt 6450 9mm rifle which was surprisingly "on" considering it is a beat to hell rental gun from a local popular gun store that probably has a million rounds through it and significant abuse from the hands of a thousand noobs. Although the mags are a bitch to load... the gun recoils just a little more than a .22 LR when shooting my subsonic gamer loads and is hitting just a bit low at 50 yards. I was running out of daylight at this point so I'll correct it next time I go to do a mass zeroing day. I still need to do pistols and have a growing "to do" list but the highest priority guns are done. 13 and 18 inch Armalite rifles for competitions, and my 11.5" Colt Commando for home.
  21. Had a zeroing day at the farm for a bunch of local shooters and BBQ afterwards
  22. Razor experience only but the weight isn't an issue when you're shooting, only when you're standing around holding the gun being like dang this is kinda heavy
