  1. They are basically the same, I found that I needed a hair more clay dot over clays for the same PF, and clay dot was slightly dirtier.
  2. Unless the gun has sentimental value, sell it and buy a newer one with pinned or DX sights. You'll NEVER get that value back by machining in a new sight base for new style sights.
  3. Your best bet would to email Ron w/stats or the appropriate match director from that specifc year. The match director will be on the results archive, but I doubt many will have COFs from nearly 20 years ago. http://icore.org/archivedResults.html Alec McMahon
  4. i've always just used empty shell casings, ( or shhhh ! dont tell anybody - a empty chamber ! *GASP* ) and have never had issues with quality firing pins. You can make your own snap caps, if you reload. Just dont deprime the case when sizing, and dont put powder in when loading a batch of dummy rounds. Ive even seem some people go as far as taking the primer out and shoving a bit of pencil eraser in the primer pocket, or filling the primer pocket cavity with hot glue or something to absorb the pin strike.
  5. I live near the North East coast, 30'-40' elevation I remember in Reno a couple years ago, 4500' above sea level, I was about 10-12 power factor higher than at home .
  6. the only time i've noticed a big change in power factor from my loads was with elevation change. Like said before, I really wouldn't worry about power factor for steel challenge, as long as your close to 800 - 900 FPS call it a day and move on.
  7. IMO, there is nothing wrong with a backed out strain screw that is properly loc-tited in place.
  8. Don't get hung up on getting the lightest trigger possible, take it from the people who have been there and done that: Smooth is way more important than light. I'll take a smooth 6-7 lb trigger all day long over a 4 lb junky one.
  9. Both are the same gun more or less . You can't fire 45 ACP without moonclips, because they are rimless. So all 625s are "cut" for moonclips. (It's just really extra headspace vs a recess on 38 caliber moonclip guns)
  10. What's the intended purpose for the 625 ? Range toy and plinking, or is the plan to start using it in competition ? If you plan on using it in competition, the 625, and even the 610 really dont have good use. The 8 shot guns are king. The only time a 6 shooter is needed is if you are participating in ICORE classic division or IDPA
  11. I'd upgrade the 625 by not buying it and buying a 627 or 929 instead
  12. I've been using a C&S pin since I started shooting ICORE 7 years ago. It's been dryfired a lot over the years, and I don't own any snap caps. Buy a lottery ticket
  13. It's generally good practice to have some snap caps or dummies in while dryfiring. That being said, I've never broken an Apex firing pin over probably 100k+ dryfires over multiple guns. C&S pins on the other hand? They break if you look at them funny.
  14. Sure, but not everyone likes to load up 50 moonclips before a match. For preference sake, or moonclips affordablilty , etc I prefer to load as I go during the match,in which case a moon checker is where it's at. Im also an advocate of double checking every moon, regardless if you checked at home already, right before it goes on to your belt. It's just good practice
  15. Check with TK CUSTOM, it might take a phone call to have a 6 shot 38 version reamed out to 9mm.
  16. IMPORTANT UPDATE! The IRC has new dates Scheduled. Thursday, Sept 12: Classifier matchFriday, Sept 13: Staff shoot (all stages)Saturday, Sept 14: Competitor shoot (~9 stages)Sunday, Sept 15: Competitor shoot (~3-4 stages), with awards and prizes immediately following completion of shooting Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club 8100 Gun Club Rd, New Tripoli, PA 18066
  17. I don't know anything about autocomp, but unburnt powder ussually means too light of a charge, right ?
  18. I occasionally use a 8 3/8 in competition. The guga won't work, not long enough Stick with the double alpha race master,or other of that style. Works with any length
  19. https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/handgun-tools/action-frame-tools/extractor-tools/extractor-rod-tool-for-s-w-prod26886.aspx
  20. Can you be more specific on what part you mean? Do you mean the extractor rod keeps loosening up? If so , you need the proper tool to properly tighten in ( it's reverse thread, btw )
  21. Whatever the case is, you can always expect it to fail at the biggest match you are shooting that year. That much we can all agree on.
  22. https://practiscore.com/results/new/1937c3d0-0740-4a82-8253-83cb2c834aac?q_division=4&q_individual=0 Keep in mind, not everybody shot the same stages together so results aren't completely accurate
