  1. a burn chart is not where you find a good powder for your ammunition. consult a reloading manual. and the powder that gives top velocity in a long barrel will still give top velocity in a shorter barrel. faster powders in a shorter barrel will make the gun less noisy and will probably have less muzzle blast but will also yield lower muzzle velocity. test this and see what happens H335 and a 55 grain bullet loaded to 10% under max do the same thing with IMR 4198 10% under max shoot them in a short (~16") barrel and see whats faster...H335 will prevail. now time for my opinion... Varget isnt the ONLY powder that was ever suitable to reload the 308 and 223. Varget is fine powder and does a job and does it well but it is not the only load for accurate ammo. WIN 748 works and has been around for a long time. 4895 is also very nice 4064 is a top performer in my custom Mauser 98 in .308 shooting 150 Sierra flat base at 3000 FPS in a 22 inch rifle. RL 15 is essentially the same as Varget.
  2. i think one would be neat because you could still shoot pistol steel. harmon
  3. seems Bravo company has a cult-type following with unrealistic claims of higher quality than any other mil-spec parts. Ive seen the 14.5 inch barrels with a large burr on the gas port hole inside the bore.. Nothing wrong with BCM parts, seems their bolt carrier groups and barrels are over priced for milspec parts...and they may be worth it for some... but i havent drank the Kool-Aide
  4. would a long-barreled 6.8 spc II make the major power factor? ive seen some loaded to the gills loads that are close out of a 20 inch gun. Harmon
  5. i always liked titegroup with 230 fmj bullets. the load is just REALLY dirty i used 4.5 grains and a rainier 230 plated 1.250 oal and federal primers. harmon
  6. this question gets asked nearly every month. ive tried everything but n310 for major...and my conclusion is when the pressure is on, just about any 170 pf load works fine. Harmon
  7. ive shot a butt-load of 200s loaded 1.135 with Universal clays and even bullseye in my glock 22. i never had any problems whatsoever. Harmon
  8. what is wrong with the published book loads with 150s and 4895? major with room to spare it looks like. Harmon
  9. will a 20 inch 7.62X39 shooting 150 grain handload ammo not make the PF? or is it a magazine issue?
  10. its based on the grendel(PPC) brass instead of the 7mm BR brass. its neat, and a good idea, i would like to shoot it to see how it compares to 223. harmon
  11. I spoke at length to an engineer that worked at a Chemical plant in the plastics division and he saidthat black is the strongest colored plastic because it takes less black pigment to color the plastic. Less pigment means more strength. however an unpigmented piece of plastic will not be clear as glass. it may be cloudy in appearance and sometimes doesnt lead itself to making a good looking finisihed product. thus many polymer products are black in color. I would not come to any definitive conclusions to the strengths of certain materials based on the products that MAGPUL offers.
  12. get an olyarms stainless barrel. Harmon
  13. looks like cor-bon factory ammo pushes a 150 SP at 2300 fps for 345 pf.
  14. what is the major power factor for a rifle? 320?
  15. did the decapping pin get stuck in a small or undersized flash hole? someone reported that brass has small flash holes and some of the larger decappers get stuck. Harmon
  16. are yall shortening 223 brass or necking up 221 fireball brass? Harmon
  17. i have a bushnell micro dot on top of my open glock. very nice but the dot is only 3moa. Harmon
  18. the mag capacity is not as big of an issue as folks lead you to believe. the 24 would be a better limited gun, but dont let me decide for you what you want to shoot. a J-point equipped G22 with a lone wolf barrel and Jager comp would be a nice addition to the g24, and it will shoot good enough with your limited ammo to still be pretty competitive. a top end and big stick mag and you should be good to go for both limited and open. harmon
  19. i ran like three point seven grains of titegroup at 1.135 oal and a federal 200 primer for more than 171 pf in my glock 24. harmon
  20. let me know how this turns out, i want a 10 inch SBR for house clearing. Harmon
  21. wal mart here has federal 150 grain soft points for $13.86/20rds i am sure that will shoot better than ball ammo. Harmon
  22. be sure the gun will run dirty or it will fail every time. Harmon
