  1. From what I have seen on Facebook it looks like the app for handheld is just data entry and the main scoring functions require a server backend. Looks like it has a lot of functionality that might be nice for big matches but it looks very complex, costly and since the developer is in France I wonder just how much support will be provided and at what cost.
  2. 1.140 and Xtremes caused be a lot of trouble at GA State this year. My KKM took them just fine but my mags not so much. Ill be sticking with BBI and 1.135" from now on I use N320 Lately I prefer Bayou or BBO just like the above. With Xtreme at 4.7 I was right around 938fps. Some barrels can be slower than others and my stock barrel did not like plated bullets, lots of copper smearing. Right now I am running Bayou 180gr over 4.4gr of N320 for 945fps (I ran the same bullet at GA state but with 4.5gr and got 968fps). Those are through a KKM barrel and I load to 1.140. I have found some variation in brass OALs btw. Win brass seems to have more variation than Fed, Speer, R&P and starline.
  3. Nice! At least half of these will fit in my indoor bay.
  4. I will preface my statement by saying I am a USPSA shooter and I run a level 1 club that shoots indoors weekly. The range also has an IDPA club that shoots every other week. Due to the limited storage space available the IDPA club is allowed to use some of our club's props. There is an issue there but that is a separate matter. My big question is around the idea being spread by this IDPA club that IDPA is more "tactical" than USPSA. A couple of guys shoot with both and say it is very common for the folks who run the IDPA match to say "You may need these skills to clear your house". I do not have a problem with that but I do have an issue with the attitude it instills in some of the younger guys that IDPA is more "real and tactical" than USPSA and it causes them to be disruptive at my matches. I had to ask one guy to not come back to my matches for awhile due to this attitude. Is this common across IDPA or is this just a product of the folks running that particular club? To me both disciplines have their place but in the end it is all just a game with guns.
  5. I load to 1.140 here and have no trouble feeding the rounds. I do find some variation with brass of .005 or so (Win brass in particular) so you may have to watch that. My load for Xtreme would be 4.7gr of N320 but start with 4.5 and go from there as my results were from a KKM barrel.
  6. Jack - I am going to check out the new range later this week. From the reports of a couple of my shooters the new range is brand new and in good shape. It is more centrally located so that could be good too. I will have to determine what sort of storage is available. I do not see the IDPA group changing ranges. Steve - A trailer is not really a good option due to the layout of the range. We would have to carry all our props through several sets of doors, several of which are almost switchbacks so carts do not really help (I just had to move all of our gear so the range could have a full cleaning day. Nobody from the IDPA group bothered to help yet they use the props too.) Plus the IDPA group would demand access to the props if they were anywhere near the range. They are buddies with the range owner. There is also the issue of buying the trailer. This gets to one of the issues I am facing. Our club generally has just enough shooters each week to cover costs. We get more at times which has allowed us to have some cushion but the club is not growing. We are also having to cover buying target sticks that IDPA shoots up and now they are even getting into our targets so they can have no shoots. I have tried to get the range owner to let me leave some USPSA materials and such at the range but it has not gone over well. At the very least I want to scope out the other range, talk to the owners/managers and get a feel for if it could be a decent move.
  7. This may need to be moved to another topic list but I am facing a very tough decision. I run a USPSA club that shoots weekly at an indoor range. The current range is decent but the floors are slippery and the equipment storage is in an attic space over the firing line so prop storage is limited and it is physically demanding. We also share some props with an IDPA club who has not been great about replacing target sticks, digs into our targets so they have no shoots and such without compensating our club. Our attendance has dropped off recently and I am looking for solutions. A new range has opened up and some club member have told me that they are looking for a USPSA club to shoot at their range. I am considering making a move. We own the target stands and most of the other props. I have been wanting to buy more steel and some other props but the thought of hauling all of it up to the attic, and making sure that the IDPA club does not break them, has left me reluctant to make any purchases right now. We do not have a contract with the current range but the club has been there for years. Part of my looking at a new range is trying to bring new life to the club and keep it going. Does anyone have experience with making a change of this sort? I am going to look at and talk to the possible new range this week.
  8. I want to put a bit of a different spin on this. I run a local club that shoots indoors weekly. We have limited space in the single bay at the range. I am also trying to leverage a few other guys to help with stage design to try to get them up to speed to eventually take over the club in another year or two. We try our best to create legal stages and to use the L1 exemptions sparingly. That said after we shoot the first stage we often have to do a quick reset to get in another couple of stages during our allotted time at the range. Sometimes those stages will be more than 8 shots from a single shooting area but that is as far as I will go with it unless we make it clear that we are doing an outlaw shoot that night (we occasionally do carry gun nights). If you have range limitations sometimes you do have to get creative to make things work.
  9. The pilot was good. It will be interesting to see how it develops over time.
  10. I have seen some form of this from experienced shooters as well. There always seem to be some who believe that they are so important that they cannot be bothered to help reset the stage but instead as soon as they shoot it is off to watch another squad on the stage next door. They typically do not jump in and start walking the stage but they do leave their squad behind. In this case it appears the butt chewing had the desired effect. I am not sure I would have brought up USLC and DQ with a new shooter but definitely would have used it as a "coaching opportunity".
  11. The OP did not mention what sort of bullets he is using and that matters a little bit. For me I will use Titegroup for jacketed or plated loads and N320 for black or green bullets. Those are in my G35. I have not played around with a lot of other powders but once I run out of my current N320 supply I may have to experiment some. I have another post up with the load data I used at GA State and the chrono results. TG - hotter, little dirty, meters well, recoil a little snappy N320 - clean, very little smoke with BBI or Bayou, mild recoil, meters well in my 550, hard to find
  12. I had a bad experience with one of their guiderods for a Gen 4 Glock. The screw on the end was not loctitied and it came loose during a COF causing my gun to jam up completely. Getting my money back took several emails and calls including having to escalate to Lenny. One guy promised to pay the shipping then another guy said they would not, stuff like that. I have seen a few reports of their tungsten GRs being prone to chipping so keep that in mind too. Best of luck.
  13. I think there are some more threads on this but from what I have seen, heard and read any load at or over 135pf should be fine (that should cover most factory ammo) but if you start getting below that with the stock system you may have a few issues.
  14. Does anyone have an idea when some new classifiers will come online? I run a club that shoots indoors so we have limitations on the classifiers we can run and I think we have cycled through just about all of them that will fit in our range space. We also have limited prop storage space (an attic space above the normal range firing line). I saw in Front Sight that some of the stages from the past couple years Nationals were being considered for classifiers but since that issue nothing else has come of it.
  15. @KevinB - Dave S did ignore the drop turners. The conversations I heard from the shooters was if they felt they could clear the center steel quickly then they felt it was a better overall plan to go for speed and sacrifice the points since those were NPM targets. From when I was helping staff the stage Saturday in general the open and limited shooters were most likely to skip those turners and the production/revo and L10 shooters were a bit more likely to take a shot at one or both of them. It was a fun match to both shoot and work (well okay it was a little less fun working it in the rain). Lots of great people met and saw some very good shooting. I did better than last year but still have a lot of improving to do. I also learned a lot working the match. Already looking forward to next year.
  16. Here is the load I shot at the GA State match this past weekend along with the chrono results (boxed chrono). 180gr Bayou bullet (latest coating), CCI 500 primer, mixed brass (Federal, Speer and Starline), 4.5gr of N320 loaded to 1.140. 962, 965 and 968 for average PF of 173.3 Just a data point from a boxed chrono at a L2 match. I plan to back the load off a little but it has been comfortable to shoot and no bad pressure signs. My G35 has a KKM barrel that has been known to be a bit slow. By comparison chrono of the same load over a non-boxed chrono were between 930 and 968. The load shot very clean and several people commented on the lack of smoke. Just as an aside when I was working the match as an RO I could tell when people were shooting VV powder, particularly N320, just by the smell of it downrange.
  17. I went with Lim 10 as a starting point to keep initial expenses down at the start and add as I could afford them I had a Glock 35 and 6 mags initially that I already owned. I have added more mags and extended basepads so I may make the switch to limited soon now that I am geared up. I viewed it as a good way to get started shooting major pf. Along the way I am finding I am also learning more about stage breakdown and reloads.
  18. On my KKM barrel I took a Glock nylon cleaning brush, put it in the chuck of my drill, wrapped a patch around it, put some polishing compound on the patch and at low speed used the setup to polish the chamber and slightly ease the edges. It helped the feeding a lot. For my 35 I load to 1.140 (sorted mixed brass, CCI or Tula primers, N320 and 180gr Bayou). I could probably go out to 1.150 with my mags but 1.140 has been very reliable.
  19. Has anyone else noticed OAL differences when loading with Winchester brass? I have even gone so far as to separate out Winchester and WIN stamps but I still notice a variation from 1.140 (what I am set up for) to 1.135. This is during the same reloading session so I have done my best to eliminate variables. When I load up Federal, Starline, Speer and RP brass I am right at 1.139-.1.40 with the same setup. I have just been baffled with the variation. Using a 550B with Dillon dies. Sticking with Federal brass for my next couple of upcoming matches.
  20. I have to say that I continue to be impressed by the solidarity and support of the competitive shooting community. Those of us who have met each other in person and those who have not met in person take care of each other and do what we can to move the shooting sports forward. When my dog died people reached out to me that I had never met. When I took over my local club the support I received both locally and from afar was incredible. When people have issues others reach out to them. This is not common in the world today and I am proud to be a part of this.
  21. I will not do business with that company again. Bad experiences including a captured guide rod/spring setup (Gen 4 dual) coming apart on me during a match. The experience getting my money back was even worse.
  22. The Zev setup is working great for me. Reducing ring, full length SS guide rod and ISMI 13lb recoil spring thousands of rounds with no issues on that end.
  23. Some Glock factory barrels are picky about plated bullets. I had a lot of trouble with commercial reloads using Berry's but no trouble using Xtreme. It has nothing to do with bullet shape either. My best guess is that some manufacturers of plated bullets plate heavier than others. IN my case I can clearly see lines of plating in the stock barrel after I shoot rounds loaded with Berry's. The tumbling issue is due to the plating being wiped off the bullet causing it to engage the rifling unevenly which causes the bullet to yaw on exiting the gun. My KKM barrel does fine with any of them.
  24. On the magwell it is a matter of personal choice. I have had both and the SJC is a bit wider while the Zev is easier to customize for the weight you want. I have a Zev on my Gen 4 35 now and really like it (went AL magwell with heavy brass insert). The Zev mag release is great. Roughly same size and shape as stock but metal and more texture without being too aggressive. Both companies are good. I have shot with some of the SJC folks and they are nice and knowledgeable people. Zev, props to Tyro Shooter for all he does on these forums btw, has always been great to deal with. Based on what I have seen and overheard you cannot go wrong with either company, just a matter of personal preference and what works for you.
  25. Free is good. I am working a big GSSF match this weekend and will have my brass wizard and bucket with me. I do try to sort my brass by manufacturer for more consistent OAL but as others have said if it is not dented, split or showing other obvious signs use it.
