Rifle Case Lube - Whats Best And Easiest.
hopalong replied to haze10's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I've had great success with a muzzle loading product called bore butter. put a little on your hands and just pick your brass up and rub it all together. You'll have to lube the necks but I have yet to have any rifle brass stick (.223 up to .300 win mag). You'll want to tumble afterwards or not....it doesn't matter unless it is quite warm then it gets kind of "slick". Not the easiest, not the least messy, but unless your doing 500+ at a time no different than any other rifle case lubes. Hopalong -

2002 Tennessee Section Championship Had no Idea what I had gotten into, had not been shooting a year yet and volunteered to help in the match. Shooting on Friday with the Ro's doing pretty good until my mag catch on my Para (old plastic one) decided that it was time to wear out and not hold a mag in. MATT MINK was Hi C class Limited that year.............with a GLOCK! Had never seen a revolver at a USPSA match until that match too! Hopalong

Matt............ 57% keep it up Hop

How To Shoot Long Stages Verses Short Stages
hopalong replied to IYAOYAS's topic in Stage Comments or Questions
When I do it right, and don't let my head get in the way of my shooting, I shoot long stages the same as short......................For the highest points I can with the shortest time I can. Hopalong Spell check???? -
Me too on the sight check before every major match. I don't shoot open so no dot info. On my iron sighted guns, I aim center of the "head" and look for all A shots at 18 yds. Good for all distances this way, (center mass of target). Hopalong

Disclaimer: I am NOT a GM! I Do NOT shoot open anything so no dot info from me. On a 7 yd target like you ask about I am looking for the top half of the front sight and want it in the center right where the A is at. At recoil I want the sight to go up and when it comes back to that same spot I let it go again. Now if I'm having a tough time on the trigger it may not be in that spot when the shot breaks but If I'm really watching I can tell that even before the shot breaks as the sight(front) will usually go down behing the back sight and dissapear. I then know what I need to do to correct for the following shots. I too like Jake look through the back sight and very seldom at 7 yds look for much gap between the post and notch on a target at that range. I do want to know where the top of the post is at. I don't look for holes until the smoke clears. That is with the LTD gun, The LTD-10 gun, The Revo and even one of them plastic things I detest so much. Hopalong

We did that here in North Mississippi a few years ago.........was one of the funnest and most memorable matches Many of us can remember. Who is that shooting a wheelgun with short sleaves? Just proves the wheelgunners are just a little different! Hopalong
-
Haven't shot this drill in a long while. If my memory serves me correct with a limited gun on a hot run I'd have about a .90 draw, .20 split, around 1.00 sometimes better sometimes worse and .20 split with 3 or 4 A hits. When I was shooting my wheelgun a good bit I did a .87 draw, .18 split, 1.67 reload, .19 split with 4 A hits............It gave me a good feeling of "Wow all this work is paying off" Hopalong Edit for spellong

Dave that is GREAT !!!!!! Looks like the Mississippi match is going to be down some from last year. could be because of match conflict who knows? but like I said before, I don't care who or what match everyone attends, as long as they attend a match. Hopalong

Great post Jake, and thanks Brian. Glad you can put into words what many of us can't. I have caught myself getting sloppy hits at matches, and really BLOWING the plate rack several times. I study what I'm doing(or not doing) and most of the time it is being too relaxed and letting the gun get away from me and not driving it the way I should. Problem solved by a firmer grip with the left hand and leaning into the recoil from the waist up. Hopalong

Benny Rocks!!!! Can shoot pretty good too! I have my Limited gun he put together in the fall of 05, can say for sure it has had 2 Yes I said 2 malfunctions in the time I've had it both times it was old brass that the rim of the case tore/rolled and had a failure to eject so not even the guns fault. Merlin could have had something to do with it, don't know. Hopalong

Chris, Can't help too much on the Hotel thing, it is being taken care of by one of my partners in crime. Two years ago I stayed at a new hotel just off 40 and the road you exit onto to go to the range, nice enough and the price was surprising for a new hotel. Can't remember the name though sorry. If you see a bald guy with a limp shooting a Limited gun say Hi. Hopalong

My experiance with Magnum primers of all brands is they burn a little hotter and longer. This usually causes a real good burn in non magnum loads, giving more pressures and higher velocities. I strongly suggest backing the load down a few tenths and chronograph. Hopalong
