  1. I personally slave over a hot computer all day every day. It is how I make my living so, yes I am VERY dependant on the distribution of bits across the wire. My 600 or so users SWEAR that they hate working on the PC and just want to do real work instead of time cards, work orders, billing, procurement, etc. But let that connection drop and my phones go nuts with calls from...guess who? Big Chief tablets and number two pencils are not quite as handy. Go figure, David C
  2. I think at the time it was a mag capacity issue more than anything else. Nowadays it is a relatively cheap platform for Open with Glock. David C
  3. Watching the targets or bullet impacts instead of the shooter. We have a winner! (IMO) David C
  4. Out on the stages we seem to agree that if the shooting challenge is consistent then everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. You control the outcome for the most part. The current chronograph setup at the nationals (and similar setups at Area matches) seems to be as consistent as can reasonably be expected given the equipment and the cost. We all have the opportunity to succeed in such a case. You control the outcome for the most part. DVC David C
  5. An AD is an AD without the qualification of "Unsafe gun handling". The "finger in the trigger guard" is not a requirement for issuing the DQ for this AD which can fall under: 10.4.4 Ashot which occurs during remedial action in the case of a malfunction. 10.4.5 A shot which occurs while transferring a handgun between hands. 10.4.6 A shot which occurs during movement, except while actually shooting at targets Broken guns or holsters are cause for sympathy but will not mitigate the DQ. David C FY5333 RO (edited to reflect my proper certification)
  6. You guys did another great job this year! Earthlings can but endure the weather, so no need for apology from you or any of your team. Sunday was all anyone could ask for and a great conclusion to the match. The footing was great and the coating on my C-more worked just fine. MUCH safer and easier than rain and mud any day! I'll be back! David C
  7. Kudos again to Robert and all the hard working ranch hands. Another historic and challenging match. Squad 17 was the target tapeinest, steel settinist, bunch I have had the pleasure of shooting with in some time. OK boys and girls I have made it easy for you to show your gratitude to the many match sponsors by providing the email addresses below. You are already sweating over a hot computer so open up that mail application and go to it! Copy and past as needed, but please note, use Bcc or even better, an individual address to send your brief message to the sponsors. Suppliers are in a very stressful situation now and we need to let them know how much we appreciate them. For everyone that tried out my open Glock I hope you will get in touch with Steave or John at Glockjockey.com (sjcguns.com) David C The list: sales@dawsonprecision.com KyTac@aol.com info@photomotionphotography.com service@jprifles.com customerservice@dpmsinc.com steve@anythingfromwood.com info@CEDhk.com sales@STIGuns.com teamge@gramsengineering.com info@starlinebrass.com bullets@bulletworks.com info@sviguns.com burkettvideo@gmail.com precdelta@tecinfo.net bullet@precisionbullets.com tomfee@usshootingacademy.com chuck@shootersconnection.com armscor@armscor.net eb@protechco.com Edit to add dawson. Glock does not expose an email address to the web. Shooters connection will bounce back and give you the proper address. Chuck does not expose his address to the web so I am not going to either. The list was built using the logos below the results link. It may not be the whole enchilada but it is the resource I had handy.
  8. A bump from http://www.wtps.us/ The Patriot Indoor Shooting Range will host the 7th annual IDPA Regional Championship match on Saturday, Feburary 21, 2009. More info here: http://www.patriotfirearms.com/IDPA_2009/index.html
  9. As expected the San Angelo guys and gals did an outstanding job putting this match together and running it through the wind and the frosty temperatures. After their grueling day on Friday I was in awe of the good humor and class that all the RO’s showed on Saturday. My hat is off to you all. The one day format for 12 stages is right at the limits of my endurance. Thanks to kind squad mates and understanding RO’s (especially on the low port) I was able to get up and keep going. The best part was that we all had FUN! I hope to see a bunch more folks in San Angelo next year for Area 4. Let’s get it on the calendar…quickly. One last thing. If you picked up a gun, a frame, a slide or just a bottle of oil off the prize table, please take the time to send an email to the vendor and thank them for their support. David C TY5333
  10. Any chance that there will be a powder/primer vendor at Area 4? David C
  11. Excellent advice, hope you don't mind if I copy this out to folks in our area who are always looking for ways to improve... Thanks, David C
  12. I was in an FBI lead firearms instructor course in the 80’s and many of the Israeli techniques mentioned here were demonstrated. We spent part of the shotgun week learning their condition 3 carry of the riot gun. The weapon was slung, muzzle down, on the off side with the magazine forward. The off-hand rests on the pump. Deployment is surprisingly fast in close quarters. And...there is hardly any stick bigger than that. David C
  13. It must be the ageing of our constituency. The old guys don’t remember and the young guys just don’t know. Mandatory reloads are a throw back, wayyy back. We didn’t have a revolver division so we made the folks shooting guns that had bullets in a box reload, just to level the playing field. That sort of “sensitive” solution eventually evolved into “revolver friendly” which became another game altogether. Small changes have a way of becoming those swollen, bloviating, monstrosities that take teams of lawyers to define (“what is IS”). We have plenty of definitions now. We don’t need no stinkin’ mandatory reloads. David C
  14. Did you read the Rules? .. Did S-I start making Glocks and no one told me. You can start your own club for Open Glock shooters. you have plenty of Daves for it Rules? You gots rules? Edit to follow Twain's dictum (If you have to explain it, it is not funny). The Dave with the Super Polymer Open Gun,
  15. Sir Alamo, I have an original, genuine, made in America, Rampant Colt 1911 recoil spring in my open Glock. Many folks think I am the original, made in America SOB. Any chance I can get into this Super!, Ellitist! Club!? Some? None? Slim? Cold day in Hades? Just asking, David C
  16. I read Greg’s article in Front Sight and decided to try the method recommended by “one of the older chronograph manufacturers” and take “…readings through out a given day and average your readings…”. My average of averages for my Major9 load was 169.7 pf. That was for two guns and two brass types. My reading across the chrono in Tulsa was 171.2. I went in fully confident that I would make major PF. I recommend this procedure and will use it anytime I make a significant change to the mix. Thanks again to the “Chronoman” for the heads up. David C
  17. I was two ahead of AlamoShooter and recall that the RO said, "You have the right start position if I can't see your feet". The laugh of the day came when Robert flipped his mag up onto the only high spot on the stage. You can see it at the right corner of the Glock sign. Turned out to be the only magazine all day that didn't disappear into the "big heaping pile o'muck". David C
  18. Smitty and the rest of squad 32 were the last squad off the range, Jamie (Alamoshooter) fired the last shot of the 2008 OL10 nats about 4:40 PM. I think there will be lots of stories about this one. Kudos to the RO's and other help that kept on ticking through this. David C I have two pairs of boots to give away to a good home...
  19. We have clear skies this AM (6:00), I can see the stars so maybe this morning will be rain free if not mud free.We start at 0700. David C
  20. Dave, More disaster here than I can handle. I am out after day 1. David C at my so-called shooting. Stages 1; 15-19=6D, 8M= $14 I did have an excellent run at the chrono.
  21. Radar looks crappy and the view out my window is, well...wet. The NWS says the rainfall amounts should be light, a couple of tenths, unless we get a genuine thunder boomer. Most of us have delt with this before, it is just an unconfortable way to spend the day. Footing in most of the bays is sloppy and a few had standing water in the shooting area. I expect the everyone will cowboy up and shoot no matter what. We are dealing with the small stuff here compared to the folks on the coast, keep them in your prayers. David C At this hour----9/11/01---- Never forget!
  22. They're running four shooters at a time. Wow, that is soooo PPC! On another note, did you get your battery problems resolved? I have a couple of 750VA ups battery backups that I could bring for the OL10 match. They will power a laptop without the battery for quite a while. David C
  23. I love turning targets! Are they running multiple shooters with each turn? David C
  24. Geezer-lock = David Cross: TY5333, OL10 Duh...sorry for the duplication. I should read all the way to the end of the thread before making a reply.
