  1. I have visited nearly 400 USPSA Club links posted on the USPSA web site in order to extract location information on shooting ranges for a GPS database. What I have attempted to do is establish, as precisely as possible, the road map location of each range as it would be used by a turn-by-turn navigation system. Few of these systems are adept at steering you to an off-road location or even down a named dirt road, which of course, is where most shooting ranges are found. Nearly all of the coordinates in this database will take you to the gate or mailbox of the specified range. Some are the nearest PAVED intersection. I have gathered data (name & coordinates) on 240 ranges in the continental United States. In the main this was intended to be a USPSA database. Some ranges included may not be formally affiliated with USPSA, but allow USPSA clubs to use the facilities. The following caveats apply: Use at your own risk. . Not every range is in the database. If I could not verify a location I did not use it. At least one notable instance here is PASA Park, IL, which is in a very low-resolution area of the available aerial mapping. The Google KML/KMZ file formats are quite portable but will still have to be converted for use in GPS systems. I have successfully converted the files to GPX, CSV, TomTom binary and others using an application called PoiEdit. If you are interested in this for your GPS unit, PM me and I will e-mail a copy of the KML/ KMZ file. David C
  2. Just goes to show (again) that small changes anywhere in the system can make a significant difference in output. David C
  3. I don’t know from beans about SAAMI specs but VV lists this load for 9mm. The 1207fps yields a PF of 177+. "3N38 0,41 6,3 357 1171 0,45 6,9 368 1207" {edit to add} Used the Hornady 147gr JHP. I used the Zero 147 JHP with similar results. Quoted from page 46 of the VV manual that also has this: "The listed maximum loads have been determined according to the respective CIP/SAAMI maximum pressure specification, whichever is lower. These test methods have been deemed to be safe throughout..." There is another load of Reloader9 that I can't can find at the moment which was also major. {Edit} Sorry it was Power Pistol and it did not make major. David C
  4. I sent this to a few of my buds: I have been reloading for a looooog time and thought that I had done or seen just about everything. Some of you know that I load in a barn (actually more like a chicken coop) without any "environmental controls". I was loading a quick 200 for a match the other night and noticed that the level of powder in the last case off the power thrower was REALLY high. I took the case out and threw the powder in the scale pan and sure enough it was 7.7gr! I was loading my normal 5.8 VV so that was indeed a hot charge! The link to the picture shows what I found. http://shootistcode.googlepages.com/buggyreload David C and got the following helpful??? replies: “What is that?!! A piece of corn? That just proves that you do not have "aged eyes" like you think.... You have sharp eyes to catch the powder difference!! See, you don't have to only shoot matches that allow a c-More!! Your eagle eyes will do just great in the other divisions!!! Now you don't have any excuses to not come with us!!!! Bye Bye excuses!!! Tim” “Is that an acorn or a beetle? And what is the ballistic coefficient of an acorn over 5.8 grains of Vhivitooey (spit, spit) powder? If the acorn settles to the bottom, do you need a magnum primer? But you might also get a little steam boost from the moisture in the acorn. Or maybe the acorn will ferment if you keep the cartridge a little while and you might get a little happiness from breathing the smoke. Hey, Bud, you are well into the next dimension with this exciting stuff. Ahhhhhhhhhh – a winged load no less. Some attempt here to achieve some trajectory manipulation? And so cleverly disguised. How long does it take to train a ladybug to recognize no-shoot targets? As stated earlier, this is exciting stuff! Sanford” “Imagine what could happen with a June bug!!!! Richard” “What you have there is a stacked or compound charge. To find your feet per second of the loads, you will need the cu. cc of your bug. Find this by immersing bug in rain gauge, note how much water bug displaces, then find bug density, then dry bug and check bug moisture content, bug should be down to approx 12.2 %, go to Chinese website (look under bugs for bang) and find the burn rate for your species of bug. Compare that information to Vita burn rate. Add or subtract vita powder to give the desired feet per sec for load you want. Be aware that a compressed or commonly called squashed bug load can exceed max cup pressure for plastic pistols. An alterative would be to change to win 231powder. The bugs are added at the factory, you can tell by the smoke from a 231 load. Bill” “I have seen this kind of trickery when we were first shooting 38 supers back in the 80's................................i really thought you of all people would not resort to this bill buckman mentality just to win a pistol match very disappointed dennis” “HEY HEY. WAIT A SEC. You guys are just asking for trouble trying to run a " compressed lady bug " load....in a 9mm ? that’s crazy, .38 super maybe... In a 9mm i would start with a nat...and work my way up to a small fly looking for any pressure signs....be careful !!!!! Charles”
  5. It is really tough to watch Taran shoot a COF because his splits, transitions and movement between points of fire averages about .13 seconds over the speed of light. David C
  6. I have done “real” Cooper tunnels but that was a looooog time ago. My biggest worry then was keeping my new Ernie Hill FastTrak rig out of the gravel. Although I am a bunch lighter now I am not really “smaller” where it counts. On my hands and knees my back is at 29”, in a plank position I am still nearly 20”, so a two foot tunnel is a “crawl on your belly like a rep=i=tile” trip for me. I don’t worry any about the gun falling out but I do have some concerns about where the muzzle is pointing. I don’t give a hoot about “PC” but I think the real reason we abandoned the really low height was the safety issue. A middling tunnel with shooting points keeps the gun where it belongs and presents plenty of challenge for shooters of all shapes and sizes. David C
  7. There you go again Jake, trying to make things look easy. David C
  8. Another really great feature of the map is that Google provides an automatic download so that you can save it as a .kml file and import it into your GPS unit. Now that is handy! Thanks for doing that Steve, David C
  9. Some guys have all the luck! Just up the BE street things are different: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...mp;#entry602867 David C
  10. Sounds like a local problem. Take a look at this thread: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52360 David C
  11. And take a video camera because there are plenty of nimrods out there that will do anything to be on the TV. David C
  12. Have you not been paying attention... We're all going to bring cleats and rain gear and the MASS JU JU will keep the rain away . So it looks like the weather will be similar to...Louisiana. David C
  13. Yeah...I think that worked at Double Tap this year. David C
  14. OR...you can buy a Limcat for Glock and use dang near anything without all that drillin', millin', or sandin'. Easy but not cheap. David C
  15. "Did I feel bad when a group of my friends didn't get in? Of course I did! But on the same note, know that I didn't go back and fix it so they could get in - didn't move them up on the waiting list - didn't shuffle the numbers in any way. I don't take bribes, don't play favoritism, and pride myself as an honest person. I hope all y'all appreciate it... A2Chic " Outstanding attitude! And thanks for taking on the responsibility. David C
  16. I refer to my carry gun as “Gaston”. My bride of 28 years named my truck “the girlfriend”. Go figure. David C
  17. NEW YORK: Prices of lead, the best-performing commodity in 2007, have peaked and may plummet for the rest of the year, according to analysts. A supply squeeze that doubled prices will ease by the end of the year, JPMorgan Chase and UBS said. A British refinery run by Xstrata is increasing shipments, and companies are recycling more of the metal. Doe Run Resources, a major U.S. refiner, plan to resume full production this month after an explosion on July 13 cut production at its smelter in Missouri. Ivernia plans to resume exports from Australia. "The market has the potential to collapse," said Jon Bergtheil, the head of global metals strategy in London with JPMorgan. "There's a large amount of supply coming on." David C
  18. Things you only do once…assuming you survive. Swap rides, when you have this combination: English bike, German bike, one shifts left and brakes right the other shifts right and brakes left. I am told that the flip was high and flashy and the landing for both man and machine was hard and repeated. I now had a really thoroughly ingrained (road rash) lesson in “doing what you trained”. David C
  19. The last couple of years the stages and such were posted here: http://www.bulletworks.com/club.html Check there and here for updates/changes. David C
  20. "Principles: 5. Weapon types are not separated. Rules 5. There shall be no restrictions on sights, sight radius, length of barrel or number of rounds loaded" Changes to those two items probably account for 7/8 of the verbiage in the present rule book! Run what you brung, heads up. Simple indeed. David C
  21. Make the gun stock again and see how it runs. If you are still having intermittent problems with the slide locking open. check your re-assembly procedure. This type of problem is often caused by an improperly re-installed slide lock lever/locking block pin. David C
  22. Well TL I think that with the advent of the "slidelock reload" that many (most?) of the folks shooting today have never heard of, let alone practiced, "round management". For me the greatest advantage of hi-caps (limited or open) is that I don't have to reach all the way around to the middle of my back to get that last reload! David C
  23. And those poor guys in L10! Good grief what about the downtrodden in SS, 8 (eight) rounds! How can anybody possibly shoot this stuff without 29 +1? (wisea$$ mode off) David C
  24. Use fdisk and format to clear the drive and partition it to the maximum size. The put it in your new box and use it as a mirror/storage drive. The ONLY sure way to destroy residual data on the drive is to physically destroy the drive. Might make for some quality range time. David C
