  1. Yes, rimlock will occur from shooting. I have never had an issue while actually shooting, but, if I have a partially loaded magazine, that I just used, I unload it, and usually find some shells in it that have jumped over the top of each other, probably due to recoil.
  2. That’s too bad. I have a DPMS.308. It would be great to just buy an upper!
  3. The first 800 rounds were frustrating. It made 2 or 3 trips back to the builder. When I helped R.O. the shotgun match, at Rockcastle, it ran 100%, and I even saw 2 pump action shotguns puke that weekend.
  4. It's good to hear somebody else admit that they also have to re-zero with slugs after taking it apart and cleaning. Everybody else I talked to that has a 1919 claims that they don't have to. Maybe they just don't check? Jim built mine in the beginning of 2012, and like I said, I believe I only have about 2k through it, and I think I only shot one local match, in the last 3 years. When I talked to Jim, a couple of days ago, it was with the intentions of upgrading my gun with his billet lower, or lower & upper, but he said the only billet receivers he has is for the newer models. Yes, Nancy quoted me a new Tac12. If it looks like I'm going to be able to shoot much, this year, I definitely don't want to go to a big match without a back-up gun. My previous back-up gun was a JP 1100, but, I didn't practice, and sometimes missed my reloads, with the Tec loaders, so I sold it with intentions of buying another box-fed shotgun, that accept the same mags I already have.
  5. A friend of mine that shoots ATA, switched from Remington STS to Federal Gold Medal Match last year, so I bought a couple of boxes to try. I shot a round of sporting clays with my box fed, 3-gun shotgun, and 49 out of 50 ran perfect, but, I had one light load out of the 2 boxes I’d bought. I could hear and feel the difference, and the empty hull didn’t eject.
  6. It had some feeding issues, when I first got it, but, Jim broke the edges, on the chamber, and put in an aluminum feed ramp, and that all went away. I haven’t been shooting 3-gun in the last several years due to medical issues, but was HOPING to get back in to it this year. I try to give it a good cleaning & lube every 3-400 rounds, but, it’s a P.I.T.A. I thought maybe if I went to his billet upper & lower, it would be easier to get apart and put back together, but he said that wasn’t available for pre-XN models.
  7. I like AA 2 3/4 dram, 1 1/8 oz, 1145 fps, in a tube fed shotgun, and Remington STS, with the same load for box-fed gun. Never had to take more than 3 shots on a spinner. Timing is more important than power. Cheap shells are inconsistent. Figure how much your gas, match fee, motel room cost, and premium shotgun shells will look cheap.
  8. Too bad Remington came out with their box fed shotguns in the 870 model, instead of a semi-auto. My Firebird runs 100%, and doesn't have many rounds through it, due to physical issues, in the last several years, and just talked to Jim about maybe upgrading it, but, it's one of his first builds, which was based on a pre-XN model, and nothing available.
  9. VV350 is my go to powder for my open pistols, so, when I got my first PCC, which was a blow-back, with a 16" bbl, I had the muzzle threaded, and a comp installed. I tried working with VV350, and Autocomp, but, with a 16" bbl, there wasn't enough gas left to work the comp much. I ended up using VV320, with 115 grain bullets, for what I thought was the best feeling load. I now have a pair of MPXs, and also use VV320, with Extreme 115 hp bullets. I tried heavy bullets in all PCCs, but, didn't like the way they felt.
  10. I went to the range today, and put the 1.0 top end from my 5" Pro, with the Apex-fit bbl on the 2.0 lower. Slide locks back with all loads that will run. I don't see any difference in accuracy, but, regardless of which top end is on the 2.0 lower, it won't run loads less than about 132pf Even though I've racked the slide several hundred times, I think it's because the frame rails are longer, adding just a little friction. I didn't measure the trigger pull on the 2.0 yet, but it feels a tad heavier than both 1.0s that have Apex trigger parts. If I remember correctly, they came in at 36 ounces. I think I was just lucky, because I can't put my 5" Pro upper, with the Apex, gunsmith fit bbl on my full size lower(1.0, with 4 1/4" bbl)
  11. My 2.0 is a 5" in FDE. The only way they offer it right now. The 1.0 uppers that I tried, wer from a stock, full-size, with a 4 1/4" bbl, and my 5" Pro, that really surprised me that it slid on, with the oversized, Apex, gunsmith-fit bbl.
  12. There's a gun shop, in Northern Wisconsin that has one for sale, with a 2.0 lower, mated to a 1.0 C.O.R.E. upper.
  13. Yes, the 1.0s came in about 36 oz. I didn't measure the 2.0, but, it feels a tad heavier. A little polishing, on the trigger bar doesn;t hurt either.
  14. I'm zeroed at 15 yards with red dot, and laser. Laser is closer to bore, so if I'm using it on close targets, I only have to hold slightly high. Both are high at 25, 50 and 75 yards. I haven't shot at 100 yards yet.
  15. I tried it in the new box, with spacers, and it's tight, for height, but, it goes in. As much as I prefer Les Baer, Wilson, or STI, I think the mid-size M&P is THE gamer gun. I was originally looking for an STI VIP for CCP, because the double stack mag reloads ok without a magwell, but, doing a slide lock reload, with an older M&P, the slide will auto forward. I know that some people have had issues with their M&Ps not stripping a round from the magazine, but, all of mine have been 100%
  16. I've been shooting USPSA since 1994, and IDPA since its inception. I like that IDPA has FINALLY went to fault lines, partly because I'm color blind, and most clubs I shoot at want to use red, or orange paint on grass, and I couldn't see them. I don't like that they changed the points down from .5 to 1 second, or that you have to put it in to the circle, in the head. the head is already a lot smaller than the lower, down 0 zone. What I really dislike, is they changed the sizes for CCP and BUG. I've NEVER shot an IDPA match, with no points down, but I did shoot one USPSA match with no points down.
  17. With 1 point down equaling 1 second, under the newer rules, accuracy is more important than time. None of my M&Ps have done well with anything heavier than 147 grain, but, every barrel seems to have it's own preference. In my compact, either Zero 147 grain jhp, or Extreme 147 grain hp, with 3 grains of VV310 behind them is the load it seems to like best. For most accurate load, once fired brass, that has been fired in the pistol you are loading for makes a huge difference.
  18. Apex sear, (have to use the one they sell for.45) ultimate sear block, and competition spring kit. But you can’t use the Apex striker spring Probably less $ to buy the action enhancement kit. Brownells part #100-006-036AS
  19. Anybody try swapping 1.0 & 2.0 top ends? I was playing around, and it looks like the top end from my full-size, 1.0, and the top end, with an Apex, gunsmith-fit barrel will work on my 2.0 frame, but, eventhough the top end, from the 2.0 goes on both of my 1.0 frames, I can see that the slide can't be locked back.
  20. I have one of the first Firebird shotguns, and originally put a Fastfire2 on it. I would re-check zero, every time, after having the gun apart for cleaning, and ALWAYS had to re-zero it. Because the Fastfire2 didn't have adjustable intensity, it was AWY too bright, when I was shooting a stage at dark. Then, it lost windage adjustments, so I sent it back to Burris, and they replaced it, but, instead of the Fastfire, I either put on a C-More railway, or an OKO that I had around (I"d actually have to dig out the gun, because my memory also sucks). Every time I check zero, it's off, and my groups, with slugs suck. Everybody else that I talk to, even with almost stock MKA1919s claim thier guns to be accurate with slugs. I know of other guys that have had issues with dot sights failing, and am thinking of mounting a Leupold rifle scope, at least for a while, to see if my dot sights are changing zero, or, if the barrel is moving, in relation to the upper receiver.
  21. Although I still have the stock P.O.S. on my MPX, I changed to steel charging handles, years ago, on all of my ARs.
  22. Thanks for the input Eric! I never gave that a thought. I've seen some Gen1 mags pretty cheap, but, with the mixed reviews, I've never bought one because, with my luck, it will give me problems at the worst possible time, but, for a dedicated "bench" magazine, if it bobbled, I really wouldn't mind.
  23. If I was to put a bipod on, I'm thinking a 20 would work, but, too long for shooting off of bags.
  24. Does anybody know if it's possible to get a short magazine for an MPX. It's a real P.I.T.A.load testing off a bench. Load, drop the mag, shoot one, repeat.
