  1. I used to lose the dot when I first started shooting open. And still see new open shooters lose the dot often. After a couple of years of practice and experience with dots, they just appear when I put the gun up and after recoil it is the same. The dot is right there. This is regardless of dot size.
  2. Where are you guys finding youngs bcgs. I have been looking and can't find any. Pm me with sources if you don't mind.
  3. I have a pair of Randolph Rangers. The lenses are amazing. I went with them because I could get my prescription made into the lense. I don't like looking through two lenses, especially in the heat and humidity. Pilla is another brand that a lot of the shotgunners like. I looked into them but they have a Rx insert.
  4. I have one that required a decent amount of force and another that I could move by hand. It wouldn't fall out but could be pushed with a thumb.
  5. I had issues with my M&P not cycling 147s that were loaded to the manual but I was using Universal. I'll try this 3.0-3.3 of TG and see how they do.
  6. You have to change the buffer tube, spring and buffer to a carbine system.
  7. The Passguard plugs are made from a Patented Polymer silicone that has properties allowing it to react at certain frequencies based upon pressure in front of sound. In plain English? There's a bunch of small silicone balls smashed together....when the sound pressure presents just below one pascal, the small pieces of polymer smash together providing the attenuation. Otherwise, they allow low level sounds, that have a much lower leading pascal measurement, to pass through. Thanks for the info. It's very interesting innovation. I may try some out in the spring. What feedback do the other users out there have? Do they really work. I'm less nervous about their ability to hear voice and more concerned with how well they attenuate, speed of response, ability to block out pressure waves, etc.
  8. How does the passguard work? If it has 40dB of reduction and no attenuation filter I can't figure out how they allow conversations. Is it a mechanical filter?
  9. What about the vickers? Pros and cons vs a vtac?
  10. I bought some hornady steel match and am finding the same thing. It is sticky compared to brass. So far it works and I haven't had a jam but I don't like the way the rounds feel going into and out of the mags. I think I'll stick with brass.
  11. I use the skinny match style front sight. I couldn't imagine using a fiber optic just because it is so big. If you can find a 0.020 then try it. My sight is only 0.050 wide and there wouldn't be enough room for a fiber rod. I'm not sure I would like the glow of it either. FWIW - Lots of great shooters use the eotech out to 300 with good results.
  12. Mine is not staked either. I know, everyone says that they MUST be staked. I like to try things out for myself and I thought it would be a nice experiment to see what would happen if I left it unstaked. It is a comp gun after all. Worst case, I don't finish a stage. No issues so far at around 3000 rounds.
  13. Really enjoy this match. Thanks Larry for putting it on. I'm stoked about doing it again next year and the additional things to do sound really great. Peacemaker is such a great piece of land for this, it will be awesome to have access to even more of it.
  14. I shoot irons and prefer a 200 yard Zero but I only shoot on the east coast where 400 yard shots are very rare. I like that it's nearly zero (within an inch) for everything from 50 to 200. I know clicks for a 300 yard zero. I don't have a range to practice past that though and that has bit me twice so far. Need to find a range to get my drops at extended distances. I don't have a lot of confidence in the calculators, they are close but never check with my range practice exactly.
  15. How do you match a load to the comp? I changed powders and bullets to tune my load to shoot tight groups and pushed the velocity to a point that I was comfortable with to minimize drop. Do you adjust the velocity to make the brake more effective? Does that mean pushing faster or slower?
  16. California competition works sells new back plates. Check the link below. http://www.demooner.com/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=15&strPageHistory=cat
  17. I love those rear sights milled in. This will definitely be a winter mod. I've missed my last slug target!!!! Do most people modify the point of impact with the sights or by bending the barrel? Mine shoots high and left (more high than left) from 40-70 yards and I wonder if I put in a rear sight that is taller than the rib, it's only going to shoot higher. The rear sight will surely correct the windage issue but it'll be pushed off to one side and not centered. I wonder what that will look like when I'm staring down the barrel. I've shot so many clays that mounting and pointing a shotgun is pretty natural. I don't want to loose that but do want to be able to square up a sight on slugs.
  18. I've been looking at that also. I don't know much about quality on that model but it is a Sig, and as a manufacturer I think they are at the top of the list. What attracts me to that model are the features. Sling mounts built into the receiver, ambi mag release and the extractor is supported. For the level that it is, those are very nice features.
  19. That is a really good analogy. I've shot lots of sporting clays and as I got better, I started going to lighter 1 oz or even 7/8 oz loads at higher velocities. I never felt like I needed more shot to take a bird but the velocity made hot crossers and long shots improve. The faster the shot gets there the more margin of error you have in the lead. BUT - there is plenty of time for a second shot since you have to pick up the lead on another bird. Translate to 3 gun - I need to back off a lot on the load since splits are everything. Never thought about how much the of an affect the recoil had.
  20. I agree that they do kick hard. In my opinion the beretta is the softest shooter that I have felt but nobody uses them in 3 gun and I'm not sure why. For my 2 cents - I'd shoot your remmy and not get beat up. You may fall back a few seconds on the reloads but it sounds like you'll have a much more enjoyable day.
  21. I've watched people spend really good money on barrels that just won't shoot. I had a good barrel and sent it to adco for flutes and threads. Came back lighter and even more accurate than when I sent it off. I don't think that Adco made it more accurate. That I attribute to more precision in the gas tube fit to the carrier but it is exactly what I wanted nonetheless. If you have a good performer then you should stick with it IMHO. I am not looking forward to when I shoot this barrel out and have to take my chances on a new one.
  22. I ordered a bob jones setup when I switched to irons this year. He makes a great product. It is extremely precise in tracking wind age. The problem with the hood is that you can't open up the secondary aperture since the hood sticks back and covers some of it up. If you order one of his national match hoods then you can't use the flip at all, it blocks the entire second aperture. I think that most commonly, people can get a clear view of the sight with their prescription but need the hood lenses to get a sharper front sight but it can go the other way also. He suggested that it is beneficial to use the hood if either the target OR the front sight were blurry but not if BOTH are out of focus. In that case he said that I needed to go back to the eye doctor.
  23. I have a relatively expensive tuned up rifle. Then a stock Benelli with a tube and some polishing on the lifter. Finally a pretty stock M&P. I definitely make up ground with the rifle so to me it has been a good choice. Many people struggle with long rifle shots and for many reasons, most of which are not related to their guns. That seems to cost the big time when it goes bad so that is where I have spent the most money.
  24. How is the sling attached at the front of your shotgun? I'd be interested in that too. I use one of these. It sticks out and I just wrap my thumb around it on the left hand side. I have thought about trying it on the right hand side but have not yet. I think it would be more out of the way over there. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/918367/gg-and-g-front-quick-detach-sling-mount-adapter-benelli-m2-12-gauge-steel-matte
