  1. Not sure if this is appropriate to ask, but what were/are the complaints about PASA?
  2. Oh! Yeah. Well, not me. I reckon I have no fear of being shown just how bad I shoot! LOL
  3. I'm in! Match registration and Virgin River Hotel/Casino reservations complete.
  4. I agree. Completely "doable" - and practical. Of course it relegates you to carrying handloads for defense as Short Colt factory ammo is quite anemic. There are those that claim you shouldn't carry handloads for defense, but when queried they virtually never point to a case wherein that was an issue. I don't want to cause a lengthy discussion on that subject, but suffice it to say I would have NO qualms about carrying a good .38 Short Colt handload.
  5. The Thaw Out Match was great. Many thanks. I enjoyed it. And hope to make the trip again in the next three or four months.
  6. I'm very interested. Especially after shooting with you and discussing it with you at the Thaw Out Match.
  7. Start one yourself! "Build it and they will come"!!! I started pin matches here in 2004, and we've been doing it ever since. If you can find a suitable range, it really isn't that hard to do. And I would be happy to email/telephone hints/tips/flyer/etc. Steel plate matches immediately followed. Then came USPSA and ICORE. And occasional rifle matches. Its been a great success.
  8. True that bullets or bullet fragments can do that. Not exactly "uncommon" at steel or pin matches. Our steel plate matches are at 12 to 15 yards. Pin matches at 25 feet.
  9. For iron sighted revolver div, I think the M625 .45ACP is perfect. Our matches are also shooter vs shooter. We shoot at 25 feet (which, if I remember right, was the "original" distance at Second Chance.) The table tops are 4'x8' steel; pins placed one foot from front edge. Knocking a pin 3' requires (in my opinion) bullet weight - not necessarily high velocity. Some guys do love to shoot full .44Mag loads - and they ARE effective - but a 45ACP with a standard velocity 230 gr bullet does just fine (and allows quicker shot-to-shot recovery.)
  10. Is that slight bulge affecting chambering? I use Xtreme 147 and MG 142 and I get similar bulging in .38 Short Colt brass (OAL 1.135"); looks about like those in your photo. It does NOT affect chambering at all; eight-round moon clipped ammo drops right in.
  11. Either or both! Two separate matches and two separate entry fees.
  12. $100 is a low entry fee? For only bragging rights? SS is $140, I think. At any rate, I do hope to shoot it. (Am waiting on vacation time approval.)
  13. 8.3.1.1 AND 8.7.1: 8.7.1 A competitor is permitted to take a sight picture prior to the start signal. Such sight picture is only permitted no more than one step from the "Make Ready" location.
  14. I'm also seriously thinking of going. Not that it matters (and maybe a dumb question), but why is the Western States Single Stack a Level II match and the Revolver match is a Level I match??
  15. Didn't know Mesquite Mayhem held ICORE matches. I don't see the club listed on the ICORE list of clubs. I live in the Reno area, but I do hope to get down there for a match. How many stages (usually)??
  16. 5" M627. I am interested in a couple of the holsters mentioned here. But I may just use my existing Kramer/Dillon leather holster; it may not be optimum, but will work. The reason for this question? I primarily shoot Rev Div with a Safariland 002, but planning to shoot the M627 in Prod Div at the Western Nevada Pistol League (Reno) Silver Bullet Championship (Single Stack and Production Divs only) match in October.
  17. Anyone here shoot a S&W M627 revolver in Production Division? What holster(s) are recommended? (to be legal in Prod Div)
  18. "Plated will flake and give weird accuracy." Interesting. I've been shooting Xtreme Bullets' .45, 44, and .38 bullets for nearly 15 years and never had that complaint. They may not provide Bullseye type accuracy, but they've performed very well for me in USPSA, ICORE, and area steel plate and bowling pin matches.
  19. I've had the same problem for years here. It is rather frustrating. I don't think the problem is related to my browser (IE) because I've never had a problem using the "quote" function in other forums.
  20. Thanks, Alfsauve. I haven't jumped on a revolver for Classic Div yet. But I haven't given up on the idea either.
  21. Although there have been other big revolver matches, I was thinking the IRC had been at the Hogue range since its inception in 1992 (until moving to Fallon NV in 2015.)
