  1. my TR24 is so bright in direct sun that I actually have to turn it down (block the FO from getting some light). It's AMAZING at 1x. Still not loving it at tiny long range targets, but that might be more me sucking than the scope sucking...
  2. why not just use ambi safety and switch the mag button over? Shouldn't be a problem and you probably won't get hit with brass...
  3. I have one and I love it. I have tried a few 2 stages and a few different ones. Honestly, when you try them out side by side you will have a favorite. but once that buzzer goes off you won't be able to tell the difference. Mine is 2.6 pounds, stupid clean and a positive reset. It has helped me shoot smaller groups and my splits are really improving, too. I can't believe how nice they are and easy to install. good bang for the buck
  4. Yeah I would say stick with the basics and hit the birds before you start loading and stuff. Trap and Skeet were my games growing up, but I was never the best at it. I think the trick is to learn that you're going to not be aiming at the actual bird when you take the shot. You will be in front, above, behind, etc. Sporting clays is the best at this, since the angles are weird and vary. Don't worry about the lack of "proper gear", so shoot what you have. Talk to the old timers about the tricks and learn all you can. the best practice for this we had in a while was my 3G team just messing around on the range. we would throw a random amount of birds in random directions for each other. really got you to focus, make hits, and transition. Plus, once you realize you can take 5 birds at a time before they hit the ground, you know you can pop 1 or 2 in a known direction. My personal best was shooting the round, getting the hull to fly forward, then shooting that empty hull in total Tom Knapp style. Yes, we got it on video, too
  5. don't man. That's a lot of coin for a few skinny sammies. Keep in mind that they won't have targets smaller than 2 MOA (I don't think they would at least) and they have to have targets iron sighted guys can see and hit. I just upgraded my barrel today, and got a JP with adjustable gas, rifle length gas system, and a comp for $300. I feel that's money much better spent, especially since I just put 3 rounds through a 0.39" hole at 50 yards! BTW, what trigger are you running? Switching from mil spec to a 2.85 pound timney made a huge difference for me..
  6. so got the new barrel and had it installed today. While sighting in the same old 4x scope, I managed to put 3 rounds through a 0.39" hole at 50 yards. That's not center to center, either. Total diameter. Went to 100, saw a half clay on the back and broke it instantly. I think maybe this was a good investment. This is all cheap 55 grain, too! I can't wait to see what some 69+ would do!
  7. or get a fixed/non tilting barrel pistol to run it on too? I got my first can for a carbine but have a blast shooting it on a 1911, too.
  8. hey guys, I decided to at least start with the barrel... It's got fewer than 500 rounds through it, and he's including an adjustable gas block, gas tube, comp, and installing it for me. The only problem is now I need fancier ammo, and practice! Oh yeah, and I would totally love a 1-6 or 1-8 scope, but I'm broke! so a $300 upgrade will do, because a $3000 piece of glass won't right now.
  9. Let me correct you- I am glad we shoot better than we look - And Steve why are you smiling? Cause shooting shit is fun! Duh
  10. hmm, well lets answer your thoughts C0-exprs... I have to be able to hit 8" plates at 400 yards, but most of the stuff will be inside 100 yards. I'm willing to get match ammo, but not sure if I want to load quite yet. I like my Trijicon, and would be willing to dial in if I could make it work like that. Does that make sense? I already have a 12" nordic tube, that I like, and an upper to use. This is a JP barrel, comp, and gas block for $300... yay or nay?
  11. damn, i was going to say we shot as good as we look, but I'm not sure that's a good thing..
  12. I have never actually super duper tied it down and benched it. I was getting about 2" groups at 50 yards on a good day, and probably 5" from shooting over a rolled up range bag at 100. Not proper procedures, I know, but still. I'm also thinking the rifle length gas will make a huge difference in recoil. Is that true or am I mistaken?
  13. Hey all, After shooting a few years of 3 gun with a slowly tuned stag carbine, I think It might not be giving me the chance to do my best. Started as a whatever patrol rifle(16" barrel with carbine gas), but now has a free float tube, stock I like (UBR), timney trigger and a comp. It's also sporting a JP brake and trijicon accupoint 1-4x in a burris mount. It's come to my attention that I might need to make 1-2moa shots at distance, and I don't know if the rifle set up can do it. I don't have a pile of money, so to switch to a 1-6 scope I'd have to sell mine and another gun and hope for the best. However, I just got a good chance to buy a like new 18" JP medium contour barrel with adjustable gas black, comp, and rifle gas system at a really good price. I guess I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade the barrel without changing the scope or anything else. Will the rifle length and adjustable gas really help recoil management and speed splits? Will this better barrel help me get into the area where I want to be, accuracy wise? As a note, I don't load 223, and really don't want to. I will run match grade stuff though if that helps. Short stuff, I will still shoot 55gn Hornady or federal cheap stuff.
  14. This doesn't have anything to do with the announcement Dean made about the 350-400 yard targets at Peacemaker, does it? hahaha seriously, Teach me how to shoot that far.
  15. Why are some of you all worried about spending the money to pick up a live round, but its the same amount of wasted money when you shoot a Mike :sight:
  16. It's a team match, but we all did pay a bunch of money in travel and ammo to come up. If your teammate does something silly and gets DQed for it, that doesn't mean we should all suffer and be out of the running. If a team can beat me with just 2 guys and a zeroed stage, it shows that I should get my ass off the computer and onto the range. Dyno, did I end up chatting with you on stage 6 while you guys watched? I thought you looked familiar, but didn't want to say "Hey, you look like that goofy avatar on Enos!". It was a really great match, good and challenging, and a pile of fun. I think the format and scoring make perfect sense. One bad stage doesn't ruin it for you, or take you out of the running if you bust your ass on the next set. Besides, isn't this all about turning money into smoke and noise and having a good time on a nice day?
  17. I don't think it's time plus... with so many teams timing out on random stages, I believe (but can't/won't speak for the MD) that we did a percentage like in uspsa. Then did that for the best team on each stage, and gave everyone a percentage of that score. Add up the percentages and there you go. this would be needed for people that DQ. a Zero on a stage in Time Plus would actually be an advantage. I think this method is fair, and it means one terrible stage (our stage 6) doesn't ruin the whole match for us...
  18. Damn Matt, we're like 30 hours since the last shot fired and you're already shopping for a new scope? I would give you grief, but that's why I'm here, too. I'm also looking to learn how to actually shoot an AR, not just run around and pretend like I know. I got a chance to play with a leupold 1.5x6, and it was in the $650 range, I think. It was pretty good at 250 yards, but I really like a true 1x up close. makes more sense to me. I can't justify spending more on glass than I spent on my car, so I think I'll be sticking with what I have, at least for a bit
  19. haha I've never shot IDPA with a gamer, but I like it! My old club would give you a FTDR just for on that paint set up alone
  20. still too excited about this match to worry about the rumor of 350 yard flashers at Peacemaker...
  21. wow, I really say "Stand By" goofy. I guess after repeating stage desctiptions 20 times to squads that weren't listening I was getting worn out. Nice shooting with ya, Team CupCake!
  22. Dean thanks for putting on such a great match! Everyone in my squad loved the stages (except the long range ) and how the stages were laid out and run. They were all jealous we get matches like this on a monthly level! This was a great way to pop my national match cherry, and I can't wait to see our results.... scared where we might see them though...
  23. so how much ass do I have to kick to get on TV?
  24. Match page on the Topton Area Practical Shooters page says shooters meeting is at 8, shots fired at 8:30am http://www.toptonfga.org/IPSC/EastCoast3Man3Gunseries.pdf
  25. Actually, it will affect the gravitational feel pull of the earth. When you jump into the air, technically you exert force on the earth and it rises up to meet you. This affect is directly proportional to the size of the objects, so it takes a really big guy to move the earth much
