  1. Not fixed yet, that's today's goal. I realized I was firing an assortment of cheap ransom shells, not a load I know for sure worked. My plan is to try again today and seewhat I come up with :-/
  2. Sounds like it could be the mag. did you get this malfunction with All mags tried or just one?
  3. Hmm, I didn't think it would be sub-minor because it's enough to cycle the slide with a heavy spring. It also is coming out of a 6" barrel, not a shorter glock barrel or anything like that. I upped to 2.6 since I needed to make enough rounds for the next few weeks, so I hope it turns out to knock over steel when I break it out this weekend!
  4. really? even out of a 6" barrel? I think if it was sub-minor (from what I was reading) i would have to switch the springs, no?
  5. Hey all, After reading everything on here about shotgun mods, I went to town with my pretty stock winchester SX2 and cleaned up the loading gate, lifter, and all that good stuff. While it was apart, I cleaned out everything so it looked good as new. Put it all back together and went out to practice, and that's when it went to hell on me... So it passed all function tests at home I could think of, loads fine, racks them out fine, etc. With firing, it would almost never strip the hull out to load the next. It would go hard enough to reset the hammer and make the trigger ready. The thing of it is, it wasn't every time. It ran for 2 shells like 3 times out of 30 shells, but never mode than that. It's ammo I haven't had a problem with before, so any help would be great! I have a 3 gun match sunday and only one more trip to the range to get it running right. What do I do to fix it? And don't say trade it for a Benelli Thanks for the help! Steve
  6. hey all, so I was a dedicated SS shooter until most of the matches around here went Multi-gun, non-SS, with just 140mm mag restrictions. I switched to a 6" 2011 and run Major 40 with 200 gn PD and 4.0 gn titegroup out to 1.18 when I need to shoot major. I was thinking about casting my own lead, but it's too much work and I'm lazy, so I found a local guy who makes AMAZING stuff. I worked up a few loads after reading about Clays in 40 minor (since it was silly soft in my 9mm stuff) and ended up with a few loads from 2.5-3.0 gn under some 170 and 180 gn lead rounds. The best load of the day, both in accuracy and feel was 2.5gn clays behind the 170 swcs. It punched a ragged hole at 10 yards, didn't smoke much, and was too soft to even believe! It has to be minor (i hope) because I didn't even change out the recoil spring. Anyway, it was so soft shooting and felt so great that I'm thinking about selling my 9mm 1911 and just running this 40 downloaded for fun stuff and major for USPSA. Thought I'd share, and for those of you looking for a steel, plinker, 3 gun 40 load, give this a try!
  7. you get to shoot stuff and not be at work! Plus fund raiser range club chili and port-o-johns makes for an interesting afternoon...
  8. I can't wait! I missed last year even though I'm local. I want to make sure that doesn't happen again
  9. really, nobody has a pic to share of their loading port?
  10. Hey all, I've been having a blast at local 3 gun matches, but I'm really struggling on the reloads. I have since really started practicing weak hand, and I suck at it. Ordered a TWiNs loading system from Mark Otto after trying one, and I can't wait to learn this! In the mean time, I'd like to open up the loading area on my winchester SX2. It's the 3.5" magnum model, so it's already a pretty big area. But I'd like to know how to open up the receiver right at the tube so I can both weak hand and do the load 2 system. Does anyone have really detailed pics or instructions? I'm not afraid to go after my shotgun with a dremel or other homebrew tools, and I don't have the time to send it off to a pro. any help would be greatly appreciated! Steve
  11. How long did he take to ship? I heard he's a bit behind... I bought my first set from him a few years ago to dress up a springfield GI. The grips were too nice for the gun, so traded that in for a Kimber. Then sold that to buy and compete with a Baer. My gun has changed, but the Horned Lizard grips have not
  12. Man, I should buy Mike a beer. But I should do it BEFORE the colt 3M3G so I don't lose to him any more. So how do I practice at 200? I'm all 3 gun all the time after the PSA this weekend
  13. yup, I've had that happen, too. Also had the cam bend on it the last time, that pissed me off to no end. They replaced everything for free though.
  14. Ah, I know it's not the best to shoot to 50 and assume that I will be on at 200. However, my local range only has a 100 yard lane. Is there a way to check a 200 yard hit st 100 yards? Also, is it ever wise to use the knobs on the scope or just hold over if need be?
  15. Hey all, I thought I had this down, but a recent abomination of a stage has me thinking otherwise. How should I dial in my TR24? Right now, I have it so the tip of the ^ hits dead center at 50 yards with 55gn 223 out of a 16" barrel. At 200 yards I held exactly the same and couldn't hit a thing! What Should i do to dial it in and not suck so much? Should I try for a 12 o clock hold rather than a 6? The targets around here are and will be 8" steel, and not much farther than 200 yards. Please help me out, I'm a scope noob!
  16. I'll have to check COL for you when I'm back in town. I did some loose accuracy checks, and was getting 2" groups at 7 yards unsupported and about 4" at 20 yards resting my arms on my hood. Not the most official testing procedure, but sure seems goodenough for me!
  17. I worked up a load of 3.2gn CLAYS under a Berry's 124. It is absolutely stupid nice to shoot in my new spartan... Feeds perfectly, almost no recoil and I'm getting about a 4" group at 20 yards slightly supported. When I say no recoil, I mean it! If I knew how to post pics, I totally would show you a video but it looks like I'm shooting a 22. Knocks down steel no problem, but I haven't run it through a chrono yet. From what I've read, should be about 130PF. It's the nicest shooting load I know. I always use clays in 45 Major, since it seems to give a nice, soft push rather than a sharp bark in recoil. I recommend trying it for sure.
  18. Shoot the best you can and see what happens, you never know. I was a solid C in SS and picked up a limited gun for the first time last month. Walked away with my first 3rd place overall and limited win. Not saying I'm any good, just really enjoyed the challenge and it pushed me to see exactly what I could do. We also have a sandbagger around here that will throw perfect doubles at 30 yards on command, but every classifier he seems to shoot a NS dead center of the A zone and say "whoops, my bad". He spends a lot of his matches shooting alone. We're here to have fun and push ourselves, not cheat our way to beating people who are still learning.
  19. I think it is a substantial savings no matter how you factor it. I picked up a 22LR conversion kit for my 3 gun AR for $100. Assuming $30 for 1000 rounds of 22, and about $0.30 a round for factory practice stuff (I don't load 223), It paid for itself after the first 430 or so rounds of 22lr. That was probably in the first afternoon All this to practice the same trigger control, same grip, stance, roll over prone, and transitions. Sure it's not as loud, but wear less ear protection and it's the same thing
  20. I would make fun of you, but last week I went from shooting a stock M&P to a 6" lightened STI in 40. It's a switch I wish I made years ago. I can't offer any specifics except read up on here, find and make mags that run, and then shoot the heck out of it.
  21. Kpbaer, I think you're mad cause you're one of the SS locals I always beat :-0
  22. Hmm, becUse I just stared messing around with it and I really like it so far. Seems to be decent fit and finish, I like the sights, and the trigger is heavy but really crisp right out of the box. I might work up a nice 124gn load and run the hell out of this thing locally.
  23. Hey all, I just started shooting limited a few days ago with a 6" fusion (basically re-branded STI 2011) in 40 S&W. I like 40, but I don't like giving up the capacity from my old M&P (24+1!) for 3 gun and fun shoots. My buddy just sent me an STI spartan 9mm at a really good price. WHat I'm wondering is, can I basically slap the spartan upper onto the other frame, get some 9mm mags and go to town? This would seem perfect, as I could shoot 3 gun and steel challenge (plus maybe IDPA) with the 9, but limited with the 40. If It's not just plug and play, how much fitting of the slide would have to be done to get it to work? Thanks, Steve
  24. Hmm, open steel gun, I like where your head is... Now can I slap this upper on a 2011 frame and just use 9mm mags? Because that might be something super awesome to do, too... Or will it need more tweaking than that?
  25. Hey all, I have been shooting SS in major with a 45 for the last few years, and carry a smaller single stack 1911, too. There isn't enough competition around here in SS and I was winning most local matches, so I decided to make the jump to limited. I picked up a Fusion based STI, 6" lightened 2011 with a pile of mags for a pretty good deal. This is the one I used to own, but a buddy had it a while... Now it's back. I WAS planning on shooting it in everything (USPSA, tactical matches, 3 gun, etc) and putting the SS to use in steel matches. So another buddy just offers me an STI spartan 9mm, with 200 rounds through it and a pile of Tripp mags at a steal. Of course I jump on it, mostly because I've always wanted one, and I hear 9mm 1911s are just too much fun to shoot. I also have the mag holders, holsters, etc. Now the real question is, what do I do with it? SS minor makes no sense to me because of the scoring differences, and I was thinking about using the 6" limited for everything else so I would be good with it. I could always use the upper on my 2011, and make a 5" 3 gun 9mm, right? What should I do with it? or did I just waste a pile of money on a range toy?
