  1. Ok.....One thing you should really stay away from doing is to EVER drop the bolt on an empty chamber on the Remington 1100/1187 shotguns. Doing that is the #1 reason why they break the extractor's......well, that and an extractor that is not properly fitted. WHAT???? Remington Extractors are not drop in??? well, they are supposed to be, but tolerances on the extractor and the ramp on the barrel can make for some nasty metal clashing and some really un-needed stress on the extractor. So that all being said, the best thing is if you run the Remington dry (buy a Benelli) to drop a round in the side, then load thru the gate, this will as said before, automatically put the round into battery.
  2. JP makes a piggy back mount for the Doctor as well.....if you dont see it on his website, thats because it is a secret!!! Call him up.....he has them Tim
  3. You guys have it ALL wrong!!! The best 3gun vehicle is a 2005 Chevy Blazer!! Well...maybe not so much that it was a Blazer, or that it was Chevy or even that it was a 2005......more importantly ....it was rental that we took to the 2005 Rocky Mtn 3Gun. AND!!!......the coolest thing was, not only did it hold all of our gear nicely, drove decent, blah, blah, blah......we didnt have to clean it when we returned it to the rental place....and holy snap caps was it a friggen mess!!!!.....it was NOT so dry out there if you remember. Top THAT!!!! Tim

Actually, the LMOS buffer that JP sells is a rifle length buffer that is lighter than the std. Rifle buffer. you can put the lighter carbine buffer and spring in....however you MUST use a spacer in the Rifle buffer tube, or use a carbine buffer tube. Both work about the same......with the edge of reliablity going to the JP LMOS buffer as well as feel. Either way you go, it is much better feeling than the standard rifle buffer system.
  5. Trigger time!!! Biggest thing....TRIGGER TIME. You can get to be a B or even an A class shooter if you practice holster draws and mag changes.....and hit 70% A's on the std exercises. And pretty much with any gun you have presently. Infact, I would venture to say that if you practiced every day for an hour with out ammo, just doing holster draws and mag changes......and I mean a real practice session, not this 5 or 10 minute thing, you will be A class within a year. To get above that.....or to be more than classified on paper (meaning to be a real 'A' class shooter) you need trigger time.....the more the better. One option I dont hear people tell other about alot.....rimfire pistol. Just about everything you take in shooting a rim fire pistol, directly relates to your centerfire pistol. Everything but recoil. The good news is.....recoil DONT matter. If you are shooting a 1911 style of pistol, you can shoot a Browning buckmark.....the cool thing about the the Browning buck mark is that the controls of the weapon are in very close to the same place as a 1911....maybe a little harder to get at, but same operation. And depending on the model, can be very close to the same weight as well. Another option is air soft and your back yard.......I set up COF's for my 10yo son and his air soft pistol, with USPSA targets, he has a blast running thru them.....even resets up the courses to his own design. The best advice however that I ever received from a GM was......in starting this game, shoot what ya got, its better than you right now anyways. Buy a good reloader, 10,000 bullets and primers......when you've shot all that up AND have asked LOTS of questions and got the answers......then look for a new gun. the .22rf and even air soft though.....is a great option for you to keep expenses down and get LOTS of trigger time.
  6. Well......an apple is an apple is an apple. Lets talk parts......there are only about 3 companies in the US that makes the forgings for the AR15/M16 weapon. A handful of companies that do the actual machining. Bolts and Carriers.....a few more. Internals.....about the same. Discounting custom AR companies....it really is going to boil down to barrel accuracy (or if you want chrome lined or not) and fit and finish, which can be fact or opinion on how good that is. That all being said......I've dealt with 100's of AR's from various companies and they all have their little quirks. SOOOOOO for me it all boils down to a few things 1. Accuracy 2. Reliability (although, I dick around with these things, so I make them more reliable anyways) 3. Customer Service 4. Do they support our sport (USPSA and/or 3gun) I have to say......for my money, its gonna be DPMS hands down, they typically have the stuff I need when i need it. The barrels have been very accurate for me. And, well.....DPMS does support our sport extensively. The quality for DPMS is great, improved drastically from years ago and still climbing!! If you take the opinions out of the equation, an apple is an apple is an apple.
  7. You can turn that barrel down to .75 under the handgaurds, no problem. try to keep the same taper near the back end by the chamber and taper up to the gas block. I've even gone down to .70 under the handguards. .720 in front of the gas block is fine. if you have a rifle gas system......do not cut the length down under 20". I've seen some reliability problems with 18" 308's and a rifle gas system. People have done it and it works fine for them......others have had nothing but problems. AGAIN....note....this is if you have a rifle gas system, not to be confused with a carbine gas system. One thing you may want to do afterwards is send the barrle out for cryo......some may disagree on the advantages of cryo treating, but I look at it this way, it's like chicken soup for a cold, it may not help (I suggest it will), but it will not hurt. Two of the advantages stated in cryo treating are increased barrel life (who cares IMHO) and barrel stability (takes the stress out of the barrel).....the later one is the one I really care about. I've turned a few barrels down in my life time and cryo'd them and I have been more than happy with 10 shot group averages I;ve shot with them afterwards.....the bad news is, I cant really say how the groups would have been had I not cryo'd, hence the chicken soup statement.
  8. One thing you may want to consider is a JP globe front sight, and a precision rear sight, I am using an old Redfield International rear sight. Very accurate for the long distance targets. I also have a JP short range tactical sight for the close ones......and if the stage calls for it, I unscrew the aperature on the rear sight for more FOV.......seems to work for me....YMMV As for 9mm.......I think that the 9mm SVI or STI for these 3 gun matches is the ticket for the tactical classes......what can you get, 24 rounds in a 140mm tube???
  9. IT's too bad more did not shoot HM at fort Benning, for once I actually found the long distance targets easy to shoot at. I even nailed the 2 longest ones at one shot each (yes.....I think I was lucky). Can't wait till next year at Fort Benning, no matter what class I shoot.....it was a hoot!!! I guess even though I say I have old eyes, and would like to see optics in HM......this kinda made me rethink that. I think the main reason I even attemped the shots (and not gamed it like I would have normally done) is because we actually shot long shots like they are supposed to be shot.......prone, not some contorted position., and darn!!....I didnt do toooooo bad!!! I too was the ultimate gamer with ammo for HM and did the whimpy stuff......only becasue the rules allowed it. However, a little talk with (I believe) Pat Kelly, he shamed me into using real ammo.......well except that I still use 2 3/4 dram loads for the shotgun....sorry Pat, I like my shoulder just where it is. I say keep HM....Heavy Metal or He-Man.......not Girly Boy.......I agree with KellyN. If everyone comes to play with a 45ACP, maybe match organizers will know the shooters want to keep the integrity of HM at just what it is susposed to be. Same with Pump shotguns.....think of it this way, you will never have to worry about your gun cycling unless you yourself short stroke it or REALLY break something. I could go either way with optics on a HM rifle, there is only one, maybe 2 stages that you are really gonna need an optic in a match, the rest you'll be probably using a secondary iron sighting system. Good matches can go bad if managed improperly.......there is one match that (IMHO) I do not think of as a 'must go to' match anymore. The good news is, there is about 4 (maybe 5?) others that are. And KellyN......its the bad karma with the 110 ammo thats makin your rifle not function......time to buy some battle packs and shoot what God intended to be shot in that rifle.
  10. The JP trigger will also use standard pins or anti-walk pins. It comes fromthe factory set for take up and over travel. I believe John said it is also set at a 3.5# (I may be wrong there).....however the trigger is user adjustable for weight of pull.
  11. Aaron, Linda, the rest of the AMU and the RO's running the match......top rate!!! As for the little glitches. I guess a word from someone who has shot em, RO'd em, planned em, run em, worked em, sponsored em........"Plan for perfection and on the day of the match....go with the flow". Overall you all did fine. Aaron, I'd hire you again to run it next year again.....although I am sure you will volunteer (one way or another). I'd come shoot it again in a heart beat......the AMU has the facilities, the resources to make this a premier match and it is very close to that already. In a few short years, there are now a hand full of must go to matches in the country and this one is at or near the top of the list. Congrats to a well run match, mission accomplished, well done!!......hope to see you all again soon!!! Tim
  12. I have always thought that was how USPSA ran it......limited shot capacity, not length. In case, a plug would work just fine. Tim
  13. JP has an Ambi/modular safety....meaning you can either have it ont he left side, right side or both sides of the weapon. That is availible on both the JP-15 and CTR-02. He can also do the ambi mag release as well. Both rifles are right side eject, and both will clear your face, no problem Tim
  14. Someday.....you guys will have to ask me how I got my AR15 with an 18" barrel to get down to a total weight of 5 pounds 8 ounces.......including a 4x weaver scope. Granted, I do not use it for competition, however it is a sweet coyote weapon. FYI......my competition CTR-02 weighs a pound more. Tim
  15. I'm sorry son, you've asked too many questions. Please provide us with your address and SS now....so we can come pick you up. I believe at the moment....there really is not organization for the IMGA, no governing body. The rules were made up, I believe with the intentions of someday forming an organization. Pretty much all the major 3 gun matches use the rules....with some changes to fit their needs at the moment. maybe someday there will be.....but at the moment, none. Somewhere in another section of the forum....."Questions that dont fit anywhere" someone asked a similar question a couple of weeks ago. Or if anyone else has more light they can shine on this subject. Hope this helps.
  16. I took a DPMS 24" Heavy barreled 308 and turned it down......it was a sweet shooter before AND after. Now mine was normalized by DPMS at their factory, prior to me getting it. And after I turned it down and cut it to 20" I had it sent out for cryo. I turned it down to .75 under the hand guard and I believe .75 from the gas block forward. I put the JP tactical break on......a good choice, but YMMV Since then I purchased a new upper that JP made for me that is VERY light and a very sweet shooter too. Tim
  17. The only thing I saw on the Extrema 2 that I did not like was the plastic sleeve over the magazine tube......infact, on the sample I was able to look at. it was very much broken. I guess, if I had one....this would be a replacement part I would have ready to go. Ofcourse, all the shotguns out there have their respective little quirks. They do seem to be very much a light shooting shotgun......but we all know that really, all semi's for 3 gun are junk (you know what I mean). They will all break at some point, not last as long as your pistol or rifle with the same useage, way too many moving parts in a very complicated mechanism that will wear out. That being said....there are one or 2 that rise to the top for this game...........and 1 or 2 laying out there in the weeds that no one seems to have touched on yet. I should also mention, the Extrema 2 I worked with was this past summer.....has that part been changed?? If so, I'm gonna go lay down by my dish. Tim
  18. Ok....the std free length here....does NOT apply to to Pumps.you can go shorter. Like 6" to 10" of free play is good enough. The reason for this is that the motion of you strokin the forearm back is going to bring your shells back. I showed a lot of people this at the tri gun last year and at the RM3G......it's never failed and makes loading SOOOOOO much easier with the lighter spring. Tim
  19. I believe, if memory serves me right, the IMGA rules were made by Dan Furby and company and may have come out of the SOF matches. And they are a set of evolving rules. I used those rules for the very first Tri-Gun Challenge and massaged them a little so that it was a little more USPSA 3gun Equipment friendly. My take was, as long as they were not changed drastically, there was not a problem for the competitors and allowed less changing of euipment between the USPSA shooters and the hard core 3 gun crowd. The is no one cover for these matches.....everyone seems to use the rules and massage them to their own needs....which can be good and bad. I do like what Linda and co. did with their minor changes to the rules this year. Separating tac iron and tac scope is a good thing IMHO....the Tri-Gun has been going that since their begining. I personally would like to see the day when all of this is under a covering, atleast for equipment. I do belive letting each MD/RM massage the scoring to fit there needs is a good thing too as long as it makes since.
  20. I shot those LE slug last night thru my 590 mossberg.....VERY STINKING accurate. I need more. I have heard they are hard to get a hold of, however you can get a 3/4" oz reduced recoil slug from Fiocchi, I understand as well........I need to get some of those......so I will ask again......where are some INET site's I can order them from??? I like them better than the Remingtons, which all shoot very well out of my 590, they just seem to have less recoil. I use an extended Ruger modified choke ( or is it skeet 1???) from the red label, which I believe is made by Briely. Tim

    Our Stuck Troops...

It's all ok now.....he apologized. Everyone is happy (please note the sarcasim).......and a certain Senator from New York probably couldnt be more happier.......unfortunately on the last part, thats no joke
  22. You can get M1A mags in 30 round and then convert them to AR10, however, I believe you will find there really are not any sources out there for a 'reliable' 30 round mag for that weapon.
  23. Funny you should mention that Kelly......in talking with Kurt, I am a believer of, if you cant shoot good....look good shooting.....I went on to say, no way could I help him on the first part of that, but, I could maybe help him on the later.
  24. Hi all......I took some pics a phone camera....so the quality may not be so hot. But should give a general idea of what the tube and Handle looks like. Thank you to Benny and Kurt and others for the thumbs up on this!!! We really put a lot of thought in on this tube as both Jarmo and I are shooters. We also know we are not know it alls either....so we have sent out samples to some people and others have won these off of prize tables at some of the 3 gun matches we have supported and have received some very usefull feedback. There were a couple of glitches in getting these out.....mainly with tube length (and one little burr on the Benelli Nut that I missed, grrrrr).....good new is that is all taken care of and when we actually start selling these, we will have a product that is at 100% and I believe the 3 gun community will like the final product!!....AND up to an 8 shot extention for you open shooters My drive for this was actually to make products for the 20 gauge market which I personally feel could be up and coming....as long as there are products availible (and decent ammo). Also.....we are making tubes for the Browning, Beretta, Remington, Franchi and most likely others in the future. I really hate to make pitches on the forum......so hopefully, this is a rarity on my part....sorry about that.
