  1. I suppose you need to figure out what it would cost to finish to your liking and what work you can do yourself. Then add it up and decide if it's worth it. You might also figure what you can get out of it. For me the $400 price point was too high for the condition they were in. Example: $175 to have it refinished $100 to have the front sight dovetailed (I can't take gun parts to have done at work...darn liberals). $70 for CZ custom hammer (now Cajun is offering one too). Probably another $50 in misc. parts. Of course I'd also have to put some VZ grips on there, but that goes for the new ones too

    CZ Parrot?

    I think that's a new hammer design.
  3. I got really accurate groups from 7.7gr of AA#7 behind a Montana Gold Hollow point. #7 leaves some little brown soot on the internals, but always ran fine. I went to VV320 as it's gleaner and has less "flip".

    CZ TS

If you plan on modifying your weapon in anyway similar to the CTS, you might strongly consider it. I'm still in the middle of a IPSC Standard mod. I have removed the cast checkering and undercut the trigger guard and beavertail. With all the darn time I already have in labor, I think the CTS is a bargain. Of course I enjoy screwing with things, so the process is half the fun. If you don't or want to get shooting right away, you might think about the CTS. Just my opinion, of course. I wonder if the full dust cover was so important that you could choose not to have it removed? It would be less labor for CZ Custom not to cut it off.
  5. I've never had any accuracy issues when I was using both (although I had some leading from Moly bullets). I soak my barrel overnight in Hoppes #9 and then brass brush the bore.
  6. 124 gr. Montana Gold Hollow Point 4.2 gr. Vihtavouri N320 1.09" OAL Federal or Winchester primers. My chrono is 134 but I was 137 a the last Sectional I attended. It's soft shooting either way.
  7. Any comments on the trigger?
  8. I just got a PDR from Dawson Precision. My comparison to Bladetech is a tighter fitting interface between holster and belt as compared to Teklock. More protection to the weapon from scratching with the suede lining. The large adjustment knob on the PDR will allow nearly a complete "lock" of the weapon with a couple turns and the same or better draw times when loosened. The trick shall be remembering this. Time will tell, but my initial observations are positive.
  9. I have not personally done an X-Five, but I have in a couple P226s and a P229. I'd recommend BarSto. You can order the barrel from them, but you may have to wait a few weeks. They can also fit it for you if you are not familiar with doing so. It runs just as smooth as a factory 40 S&W set up, and you may find with the BarSto barrel that it will be more accurate.
  10. For what it is worth. I load 4.1-4.2 of VV 320 at 1.08-1.10 OAL with Montana Gold Hollow points. I can go up to 1.13 but my speeds go down a little. I wouldn't worry about loading short with less powder. CZ is saving you money! I hear about people reaming the chambers on the CZ but I think its so they can use the heavier projectiles and longer OALs. I've never tried it.
  11. You might be noticing the difference in the mainsprings. The older models had a long mainspring, strut and an "L" shaped steel spring retainer. The current ones have a short spring and a plastic "wedge" retainer. The current style is really easy to change out mainsprings, the older ones were not. I also like this "old" feel, but with some practice on the "new" style it hasn't been as a pronounced for me. The current hammers/sears also are being made of MIM which can be "gritty" when they have the parting line to wear on. I've had some bad ones and some decent ones (hit or miss). They all need a minimum of an action polish in my opinion. Just my observations....
  12. I have a friend who signed up for it last month. He's happy so far.
  13. Why do you feel it is not a good USPSA gun? I think the double action pull weight, sight radius and barrel length are lacking for accuracy on longer distance courses. It's also not as easy to reload mags as other platforms and there are less aftermarket parts to make it to your liking. You could shoot it and probably do fine in USPSA but in my opinion at some point you would want a different weapon. Maybe someone like Grayguns could work one over but at that point I think it's defeating the purpose of the 2022...an affordable and reliable DA/SA platform.
  14. I have a German P2022 in 9mm and it's been a real sleeper. I think it's great deal for the money. While not really a good USPSA weapon, I think it's great for self defense, general shooting and for "fun" action matches.
  15. Mirrors my thoughts. I have no use for an external extractor gun with an ugly slide. I'm not a purist, but some things are just not negotiable. For what it is worth I built two in 45 ACP from the frame/slide close outs that Caspian had (I believed they called them Recon XR or something) and I've never had a failure to extract.
  16. Thanks Walküre, A Masters in Engineering but not in English.
  17. I can't identify the perocity on the slide (that would concern me as I belive it's billet or forge), but the frame is definately a screw up in my opinion. I think it would be ok for shooting, but given the price you paid I'd want a new one. Maybe even one of those new tan t-shirts for the trouble
  18. Perocity is not uncommon in cast parts (I'm pretty sure those frames are cast steel). Usually additional allowance is made so that the part is stronger than it need be to overcome this occurance. It's very expensive and tedious to inspect 100% internally. In your case, it sounds like a surface defect which should have been caught but anything is possible when it comes to humans. I'd send the picture to CZ USA and get there opinion, but if you are not comfortable with it, I'd ask for another. Just my opinion of course.
  19. I hear KKM is supposed to be making some CZ barrels this year. Maybe you could make a drug deal with them?
  20. I've worked over a CZ75 Stainless myself and the trigger is nearly as good as my CZ Custom Shadow. I recently messed around with some Cajun springs and saw some improvement. Last night I decided to tear the whole thing (CZ Custom) apart and pay more attention to the action surfaces. I was really disappointed. I thought they would have been polished much better, but they were not. I'm currently going through it and have a feeling that it will be better. With that said, I think the CZ Custom is just fine, but it definately could be improved upon based on what I have seen.
  21. Precision Moly were too smokey for my taste (CZ 9mm) and there were signs of leading after a few hundred rounds. I tried VV320, #7, WSF, Silhouette and Win 231. I went back to Montana Gold hollow points and VV320. Clean, accurate and reliable. I like the Moly bullets in 230gr 45 ACP just wasn't worth it for me in 9mm.
  22. Never happened to me, for what it's worth.
  23. If you can get access to a belt sander or a large disk sander the bottom will come out much "flatter". Given the Dremel has maybe a 1/2" sanding drum it won't come out as nice. I like to mark where the sanding will end so I have a point of reference and then move back and forth between the belt sander and the firearm to make sure the fit it good. Then again...I'm picky.
  24. It looks like they repaired the casting mold or welded it.
  25. Thats a very good looking weapon.
