  1. Congrats. You are in a good part of the country to try this out. That high desert south of Boise makes for wonderful ranges. Tony M.
  2. Hiya! Actually I've made a number of these solid guide rod units to replace that funny buffer system in X5's on a per-demand basis, but I have kind of come around to the notion that the X5 isn't sufficiently reliable to warrant the expense. I'll explain: The inevitable extraction issues are aggravated by reducing the recoil spring and it's closing pressure in full battery, which increases the initial unlocking speed. Thanks for the opportunity to explain my position. -Bruce I'm looking for some wood to knock on.... I've had no extraction issues on my X-Fives (I have 3 9mm, and 1 40S&W). I'm sure a lot of it's luck, but I also run a pretty decent load of 7.7gr of #7 and a 124gr HP in 9mm, and 8gr of HS6 behind a 155gr HP in 40S&W. I did not have good luck with VV320 loads or anything "light" on the PF that work wonderfully with my "gaming" guns. The X-Fives seems to have slow cycling so maybe there is something to that... I also do not like to modify springs in any of my SIGs but if anyone can it would be the GrayGun fellers.

    P220 mods

You can pretty easily change the mainspring which will reduce your double action trigger pull force. I generally don't go below 18lbs, but have heard of others going less (some primer styles may not initiate). The mainspring shall be the biggest significance in double action. As far as single action and general "smoothness" a Grayguns or Total Automation (or similar) would be a benefit (more so in newer SIGs). They smooth all these action surfaces, use lighter firing pin plunger springs (and titanium plungers for newer models), shorten reset, and generally smooth out the action. I may note, there was a law enforcement contract that has a longer take up on the trigger (had a P220 ST like this...replaced the hammer). I reload all my ammo so I can't make any comments regarding the recoil. You might try a 230 grain white box load. As others have stated, the P220 is a fine weapon but not exactly competetive for USPSA Production. The reduced round count would be my major issue, but what the hell...go shoot it!
  4. Nice Profile Name!

  5. Do or do not, there is no try.

  6. I've had good luck with 7.7gr of AA# 7 and Montana Gold 124 hollow points. Yes, there are cheaper loads out there, and there are others that burn a little cleaner. However, I've found this load to be the most accurate across my 9mm pistols. It's powerful enough to drop any plates that aren't hit quite right as well. I also like 4.2gr of VV 320 behind his bullet and 5.1gr of WSF isn't too bad either. All the lead bullets I've tried with various powders are too smokey so I've stuck with the jacket bullets (at least for now). Good luck and I wish you success in reloading and shooting your CZ.
  7. Recent events? What happened and where? I've been to Caswell Ranch twice (Once for IDPA and once for USPSA). It's a nice range, and pretty laid back crowd. I'd recommend it to others. I'm going to try to make it this month.

    Large grips

I'm not NBA player but I wear XXL gloves so I'm not exactly sure what defines "big hands". I suppose a lot of it is subjective. I use VZ and Houge G10 grips on my CZ with grip tape on the front. It's about 1.2" width across the flats. I think the factory rubber might be a little larger however. For me the biggest issue is having the right trigger location. I've been pleased with the 85 type trigger, but I could handle it being a little further forward. I've been comfortable with the mentioned set up. I tried the aluminum grips but they felt "thin" for my hands.
  9. How are you "lubing" the weapon? In my experience the CZs (and SIGs) like to be run wet compared to Glocks. I think it is worse when they are new (tighter fits than Glocks) and they wear in over time. I use TW25 or slide glide at the barrel lock up points and Mobil 1 10-40 synthetic oil everywhere else (I use TW25 on the rails during practice). Also, you might pay attention to the extractor. Is it getting over the lip of the casing? I had experimented with the higher rate extractor spring on my Shadow (worked great on my Stainless model) but found that the extractor was causing a lot more "drag" and difficulty chambering on the Shadow Custom. I went back to the factory spring without issues. Anyway, good luck. I'm sure once you get the bugs worked out, it will sing for your.
  10. Since I didn't see any Accurate Powders mentioned... I like 7.7gr of AA #7 behind a 124gr Montana Gold HP and 5.9gr of AA #5 with said MG 124gr HP. I also have had good luck with 5.1gr of WSF behind a 124gr Montana Gold HP and 5.5gr of Silhouette behind the MG 124gr HP. Still my love is with VV 320.
  11. I'm not a Pro by any means, but looking away from your target (I like to look at the ground) taking some some deep breaths in the nose and out the mouth and rolling the neck seems to help me pass the jitters. Then I raise my head up in the correct direction of shooting, nod ready and wait for the beep.
  12. No I ordered the drop in, I was beginning to think I may have gotten the "match" (gunsmith fit) but a little online reading lead me to believe that the oversize lead bullets (.401) not seated far enough into the case (loaded long) could be the culprit. We will see I had some other reloads that had 180gr hp xtp's loaded to the same length and they drop right in and come right out. which again lead me to believe that something had to be holding the others out. I gauged some of them and they all drop in the Dillon gauge but not 100% into the barrel. I also pulled on down to see if the brass itself would drop in and it did, another indication that something was holding it out now to test the theory Good point with the brass. My sized brass wouldn't even chamber. If you still run into problems I'm sure they would fit the chamber for you. They seemed pretty attentive to customer service.
  13. Did you buy the "match" version? I found out that they undersize those so they work with OEM and aftermarket slides. I didn't have a 40S&W reamer so I sent it to them with some sample rounds and they fit it for me.
