  1. Ok, recovering from shooting and working the AL Sectional last weekend where I got some answers to my own questions... TF extension-equipped mags fit inside the 141.5mm mag gauge just fine. Those same extensions with a little grip tape on them from Dawson with the numbers, were a no-go. I felt like there was still wiggle room in the gauge, but the match official said no. I took my tape off and moved along. I did some very light material removal from the bottom of the follower and could reliably seat all mags with 20 rnds in them; with a GOOD shove. It made the slide tough to retract, but it would work. I'm going to try to ease just a little more off the follower and get them to where they will seat/reload without all the extra force. I got HPP in Limited, that's high plastic pistol...
  2. I've seen where people have altered the profile of an STI grip by using a mixture of epoxy and a texturizing material. It felt about like uniform size sand granules, but I'm not sure of that. It is quite permanent until it begins to chip away.
  3. I wondered if that was an option. What about drilling hole and inserting a small screw without a head for an anchor and then using epoxy or something similar to "build" up the button? I've never done stuff like this, but I have seen a few grips where someone has built them up with epoxy or a similar material. Thoughts?
  4. I will be another vote for the Taylors. I've had great luck with 'em so far. I'm curious if anyone has found a way to get 20 rnds of .40 reloadable. I can get 20 into the mag, but there isn't enough room to load it reliably at speed. Has anyone tried trimming followers or anything like that to make it to 20?

Ready Tac gets another vote from me! Chris does excellent work!
  6. Has anyone actually gauged the Arredondos or the Taylor Freelance extensions? I have brass TF's on my .40 mags and I'm curious about what others have found. I do not have a gauge...
  7. Should you happen to running it in Limited the brass mag extensions add a little weight that seems to really get the expended mags out of the way quickly...
  8. I got my new followers in and found the same thing. Now, my slide stop seems to work like it is supposed to. The answer is def to contact S&W about the issue.
  9. The interchangeable backstraps will certainly help some shooters be able to get their thumb to the button without having to change the their grip during a reload, but having an extended button that is profiled to be easier to engage once you have the proper backstrap on your pistol is just that much better. You wan't have to mash the button all the way into the frame this way. I've already removed a tiny bit of material around the base of my factory button to make it feel a little better. I just shaved off a smidge with a new utility knife blade. The last contact I had with Costa said that it would be late this month before they were able to ship their current backorders. I thought it was a little odd that they charged me before shipping. I thought that most companies wait until they are able to ship your product before charging you for it...
  10. I'm must getting into this as well. I've been shooting limited for about a year now with and M&P Pro .40. It's gone pretty well, but I've just found my first 2011. Got a great deal and 3 mags with it. I want one "big stick", but I want to make sure that I can really use it. I've heard good things coming from the capacity of the Rescomps with SNL's and Grams guts. To the couple of guys who sound as though they have this combo or something similar, does the Rescomp with SNL fit the Limited gauge? Someone mentioned VERY light filing to the rear of the feed lips to make length? Does that do it? I don't really want a $200 paperweight...
  11. Well, as many have said before, every scope out there represents a compromise of some sort. For the money and the average 3-gun game, this scope is tough to beat. The big circle works great for close stuff, just remember to hold it a little higher to allow for the offset above the bore, and the dots are great for longer range work as long as you spend a little time in advance figuring out what those dots mean for your particular firearm and chosen round.
  12. I just placed an order. I will update on progress as I get more information...
  13. Has anyone found a way to make the trigger a little better? The little one has a rough trigger just like its big brother?
  14. I'm glad I stumbled onto this thread. I've been puzzled by the slide-locking-back-occasionally mystery with my M&P. I thought that maybe it was something that I had done in changing springs and such, but its clearly the depth of that notch. Time to number my mags so that I can keep track. I bet I would have figured this out if I had been tracking the mags better. Thanks.
  15. There's no chance that I would have found that on my own. Thanks! I want one yesterday.
  16. I've used it in .40 and .45 because my Dad had a bunch from his shotgun reloading days. As was mentioned earlier, it may be a little dirty, but it works fine. There is also another budget powder ($90/8 lbs) out, Promo, that has roughly the same burn-rate, but with a lower powder volume/weight. I've been using it for .45 loads and its been fine. Nothing wrong with using stuff different from the other guys; its nice to have some different smells during the match.
  17. Shooting Chrony (all models) = POS's. The fact that they fold up on themselves is great, but I used one for a while thinking that all was well with my rifle ammo before an area 3-gun. I smoked everyone else in my division. Got to Chrono, missed it by 20! Lost a pistol, bumped to another division, got a comp. Took Chrony out of car, set up in empty bay, still showed ammo making major... NEVER again. ProChrono Digital and Pal. = Super simple and easy. You don't even have to have the sky screens. Can get the Pal for under $100 delivered. Customer service has been great when needed too.
  18. I've got a couple of buddies that I shoot with who are using the Precision 185's. It's a round-nose, flat-point profile. They both load long and have had great success with that projectile and Solo 1000. What's the profile of your jacketed projectiles? Could a different crimp possibly be the culprit? If you need/want to get rid of the gun because of this issue, I will give you $100 for it!
  19. I've shot a couple of matches that expressly forbade opening ports with your muzzle due to some perceived safety issue, but if its kosher with the match, the gun should do it. The spring would definitely be the first place to look. Then check your ammo (esp if reloaded) and possibly clean gunk out of your chamber and the rest of the gun as well. As mentioned earlier, the gun should have enough spring tension to return to battery if nudged out like that.
  20. +1 for the Savage "mini-sniper". Savage is doing some pretty awesome things with rifles these days.
  21. The 6" gun is ALL about sight radius. Some may tell you that the extra barrel helps make PF, but that is a tiny bonus in the long run. That extra sight radius really helps out on distant targets. I'm pretty jealous; I'm still running an M&P .40Pro in Limited. I would say that you are in a great position. You could also consider a second top-end for one of your existing guns so that you keep the same trigger and grip between "guns". Anyway, ALL about sight radius! Running plate racks at 35 yards and such...
  22. I've got to agree with Outsyd, take the game gun and get some extra time behind it. Then, run each station without ever reloading. Or, call for the birds with an empty gun, load off the belt with the birds in the air and dust 'em. I've shot skeet and sporting with my Mossberg 590 that I run in HM. Have some fun with it.
  23. Have others noticed a difference in FO from different suppliers? I've tried to go to all "red" sights, and I've noticed that some "red" FO seems more orange or pink than red. Where is the place to get bright red FO?

    M&P40 Pro

My belief is that there are going to be VERY few matches where anyone brings up that fact that you are shooting an "unapproved" gun. I ran my .40 Pro in Limited all last year. Nobody ever said a word. Unless you are concerned about winning Nat'ls or something like that, you probably have VERY little to worry about.
  25. We do have a 2-gun match coming up in a couple of months in Birmingham, and then a rifle match should be later in the year. Both matches will be at Steel City/Brock's Gap in Hoover, AL. Check out the club's website @ scssa.org for more specifics. That's where dt1 will post the official announcements.
