  1. What kind of gun are you using? Is it actual lead? It could just be oil/powder/lube residue. I get splotches like that when I shoot lead. Maybe the same thing?
  2. Go to Dawson Precisions website & use the sight calculator, that may help you find the right combination for your G34.
  3. Go with what you are planning you have your picks done already.
  4. I have no experience with the Lightning Strike pads or JP magwell, but I can tell you that a Dawson magwell with the Arredondo +3 pads will fit the box. Well, at least in my case.
  5. I actually looked that up... Good one Jake!
  6. Awesome input Lee, kind of makes me think of how the CZ Checkmate deal is with the extras. I figured an aftermarket match barrel in but thought about how the factory could just make the frame mold & add a few steps to the machining operations for the slide upgrades & still keep factory parts interchangeability, without cutting to far in to the aftermarket accessories arena.
  7. Jman, yup first thing I would do to a new Glock, with all the sight options out there, I figured no need for a redesigned dovetail or Bo-Mar style sunken in. Gotta have the "preferences" for the customizer..
  8. I was looking over my friends old EAA Witness Limited compared to a standard CZ styled pistol & was just thinking of the notion of how I would redesign the Glock. Keeping in mind that I'm thinking of a dedicated pistol for competitive style shooting. I know, I know, we have the medium & longslide models but if I/we had the chance to have Glock make it to my/your specifications, how would you do it? Here are my redesigns to the small frame: Profile the dust cover to the slide length. Give it the "Full Profile" look with the rail. I would think a 34 or 35 would look awesome. Undercut the trigger guard for a higher grip hold & round off the bottom of the guard to minimize "Glock forefinger" but keep the width. Under cut & beavertail the back of the frame by 1/2" to 5/8" again for the higher hold. Remove the finger grooves and thumbshelves. RTF it, but follow the very first models texturing layout that wraps all the way around to the sides. Do the same to the back strap. I like the Gen 2/Gen 3 grip profile so I prefer not to have the interchangeable back straps. Re mold the bottom of the frame with an integrated magwell with the plug cavity solid polymer. Thicken the well opening to provide palm/hand support, shaped like a Dawson. Go with the Gen 4 style mag release for compatibility but extended just a bit more. The slide: Square off the front of the slide, It's for competition anyway, I don't really like the bull nose. Thicken the muzzle area by 3/16" internally to give the barrel extra support. Go back to the single spring style guide rod. Place cocking serrations on the front & finally lower the ejection port. I'd use all the factory internals that a 34/35 comes equipped with, after all we'd still want to tinker I know everything here can be done by the hobbyist or skilled Glocksmith, but what if Glock actually did it? This not meant to offend the purists. But it sure is fun to dream. Zzzzz....Glock 35 IPSC....zzzz....zzzz
  9. Well here goes. Congratulations Kim!! First off I mentioned Kim Rhode in another topic before she won her latest medal. I thought I would post this for someone who has won for the pride of her country. I said it before & I'll say it again, what an injustice to this young lady that she proudly competes & gets passed over because of her chosen sport. Her Olympic page Bio: here Maybe this should be in the what I hate forum, how dare the media bring up subject matter that had no bearing on her accomplishments. Here I still have my copy of Gungames magazine that featured Kim in her 1996 Olympics win, my first exposure to Kim, & guys I'm not a stalker, just someone who feels she deserves better. F****N media.
  10. Warhammer4K, I hope you find a solution. Maybe you should contact Glock about it & send it in. Maybe there's a Glock armorer nearby you can have verify & vouch for the problems you're having to get some kind of warranty work or replacement.
  11. Interesting ideas guys! I'm going to experiment with some of the tips here. Deprime some brass, throw it in a couple of Gatorade big mouth bottles with hot distilled water with a pinch of Lemishine. Put them in my Lyman/Dillon hybrid tumbler & run it for 15 minutes & see what happens. Shouldn't hurt to try.
  12. The SJC Convertible Compensator kit is for the G17/G22 only, but would have been a great choice as it's come down in price. I guess it would depend on the budget. Cheapest I can think of ATM: LW G34 extended ported barrel, a FastFire dot sight slide mounted, & Seattle Slug mag guide with Taylor Freelance or Arredondo extensions. Glockworx competition spring kit with 25¢ trigger job. Aftermarket guide rod with various spring weights for load tailoring. You could really get up in price though depending on what level of performance she is looking for.
  13. I don't use a sonic cleaner, but I use a citric acid based cleaner. Lemishine, with warm water an old plastic container & let it soak for 10 minutes. Rinse in cold water & blow it out with compressed air.
  14. Have you tried some factory ammo? It would be a good idea to have some sort of control medium to verify your results. Maybe try 2 different brands of factory to be sure.
  15. First off Shooter995, thanks for the research. Just broke open a new keg of Auto Comp. Glock 17 Gen 3 KKM/Carver 4 Port combo barrel. Barrel was throated when I got it from Bobby Carver. I didn't ask for it that way but that's how it came. Montana Gold 124grn. HP OAL 1.155 Blazer Once fired brass. Magtech Small Pistol Primers. 7.4grns AC 10 shot string. 1474 1466 1476 1496 1489 1491 1483 1488 1483 1501 Hi-1501 Lo-1466 Ave-1484 PF 184 First shot was the hi @ 1501 from a cold barrel. Fired brass didn't show signs of overpressure. Trigger is a 25¢ job with Glockworx competition spring kit. Factory striker, trigger, & housing. Glockworx V4 connector. Homemade stainless guide rod Wolff style, 1/4" longer so it sits in the comp. 17lb. Wolff spring. Our club has an IPSC affiliation, so our PF for major is 160PF for Open. At least if go on vacation to the states I can load up the PF
  16. My old 771's for my Para-14 fit my 9mm & .40 mags just fine & I used them that way til I changed my rig. I guess Safariland changed the design then? I never had a Ghost holster, but would taking more material off of the front weaken it's strength & locking ability? I wonder if anyone did this already.
  17. Walnut, corn cob & what we call here Milagrosa broken rice.
  18. Will this be a dedicated Open gun? Get the SJC if you're not worried about altering the frame & being able to use a Glock Speed holster. Deltapoint, Fastfire, C-More RTS on a slide ride if you don't want to do much to the gun. Carver mount & Slide Ride C-More but you need a modded holster.
  19. TBH, I think having a chrono does help with load development & is not just for Power factor or average velocity. If a handloader wants to try a different powder, primer, or bullet combination they at least have the chrono to help them track their results. Components, specifically powder formulas or consistencies can change. Suppose a handloader wants to find the best combination of average velocity, with the least deviation, with a specific bullet, primer, case, shooting comfort, etc. for their own use. They can keep track of what they want to accomplish with a given load with experience gained along the way. Handloaders are just like researchers in an environment they control & a chrono is another tool in the lab. It may not be needed, but it doesn't hurt to have one to find what combination they feel best works for them.
  20. Seconded for what you came to your conclusions with Rooster, TBH, I have brass in storage that was tumbled with Nu-Finish for a couple of years that don't have any signs of deterioration. I didn't like the smell of Brasso, switched to Nu-Finish & have been happy with the results.
  21. Could you post pics of the different ejectors? Mainly the Gen 4. Haven't run across a Gen 4 9mm for comparison yet.
  22. All valid posts! I would love to see practical shooting grow in general. I've invited people out but they don't really show any interest, in my observations there are always misconceptions that people come to their own conclusions about practical shooting. It's the attitude! For instance, and I'm pretty sure we've all seen it. These are my personal observations. The "Know it All" the person who seems to be a gun encyclopedia, & thinks owning a gun & knowledge makes him an automatic expert in everything gun related & doesn't need to display his expertise. The "Tactician" No gun game will help them improve their proficiency & toss it off as time better spent honing their tactical training. The "PC crowd" who think anyone who owns or speaks of guns or shooting is a neanderthal that needs to be lobotomized. "OMG! You run around with a gun?" There are other types, but this is just the ones that irk me. We've had people come out to shoot once & never return, I think these are the ones who are intimidated by what they see or feel it's just not for them. Each to his own. Maybe it's cost prohibitive? Start up could run up the credit cards up pretty high. We shooters recognize it as a sport, not the general populace. Remember Kimberly Rhode? What an injustice that a multi-gold US olympian gets noted in the books but not the general media. Shooting sports just don't get the coverage they should. Which is my opinion on why growth isn't what it could be. I like the people in my club, all level headed & good people in general sharing a common interest from all occupations & walks of life. Practical shooters are a breed apart & it shows a certain character. We are few & far between, maybe not in your club area but I like being part of the 0.03% Hey Sarge! Golf? What's a good golf course in Ohio? I'd play a round there & probably think to myself after, Hmmmm......5 field courses here, 3 speed shoots here, ahhh....the rifle range!!!...
  23. I wonder if anyone here has a Smython they've used in competition.
  24. Try this link. Not for TG but might help you with alternatives.
