  1. Like others have said, loading .38 Super major now has come a long way from what started in the early days of IPSC. The early 80's had it's own form of 9mm major that was outlawed due to the realized dangers of producing it. With the powders now, it is one of the main cartridges used now. There's a ton of information to safely load for major & I'm sure you have people in your club that would be more than willing to help you get started. This forum by itself is a wealth of knowledge for any person starting in handloading/reloading.
  2. I guess I'm a real oddball, I use three wraps of teflon tape. It's held tight for over 400 rounds. Last time I cleaned the gun, I spun it off & just wiped the old tape away on the barrel threads & the inside of the comp.
  3. Not trying to add any confusion, but Brownells does list them as two different factory part numbers for both.
  4. Glad you got them working! Hopefully they will stand up to the job with some of the tweaks you did!
  5. Glad to have seen this thread. Going to download it now on Kindle!
  6. + 1 You mean 2 Glocks? why, did the first one malfunctioned beyond use? Kaboom! WOW! Thats too bad, glad he's ok. Hope somebody here can fill in the details. Yes please, details???

    Magwells

Dawson Ice Magwell on G17 Open, I wanted this one to keep the weight towards the front with the mount & optic. Dawson Heavy Ice on G24/G22. Limited guns to get more weight for recoil control.
  8. Hopefully Bobby Carver can help, I've spoken to him over the phone when I was asking a few questions about his products & he was very patient with all my questions. Great guy!
  9. TBH, we don't know too much about the OP's gun, or it's condition prior to the kaboom. For all we know there could have been an obstruction in the barrel that caused a dangerous condition. Leaded bore, etc. I think there's more speculation that information. The OP mentioned a wolf barrel which I assume to be a Lone Wolf barrel. I had one that didn't like lead bullets since the chamber was really tight. Jacketed was really snug & would drop in but lead would just not plunk in the chamber without being pushed in there even with a heavy crimp. I was concerned about an out of battery fire so I had it reamed out with a Clymer reamer & it would chamber fine after that. There was quite a bit of material removed from the barrel.
  10. This is the data I used when I loaded some Montana Gold 124grn. HP with W231. 4.8grns. 1.150 OAL. Magtech primers. Chrono average 1100fps out of a Glock 17.
  11. Here is collection of threads that might help with tuning/troubleshooting your magazines. Glock posts are near the bottom of the page.
  12. BoyGlock, is there any telltale signs on the bottom of the mount? Possibly the slide making contact with it?
  13. Looking good out there Joe! Open Glocks for life! One question for all you comped Glock shooters, what are you using to secure your comps to your barrels? Loctite or some other compound?
  14. Wow, that sucks BoyGlock. I have no idea what might be going on but I do hope you find some kind of resolution.
  15. Here is a link to a factory one, out of stock though. 2 Pin Extended Slide Stop A 2 Pin model.
  16. Well that thread was about people's experience with lightweight strikers not all conjecture.
  17. Cylinder & Slide makes an ambi mag release.
  18. I tried my two ISMI 11 lb. springs & found them to be heavier than specified. I used a Shimpo spring force gauge to test them both & they both came in at 15 lbs. when compressed. I have no idea how they rate this spring other than it having less coils than their other springs. For a baseline I tried multiple Wolff springs (Glock & 1911) & those came out at their rating. Unfortunately, the Wolff seem to bind easily probably due to them being like a 1911 spring necked down on one end to fit a smaller diameter guide rod. I have a spring from a friend for a CZ Czechmate that should have been how Wolff should have made their Glock springs. It fits right over the guide rod, doesn't bind, & is really smooth being a round wire spring. The problem with it is that at full compression, it is too long for a Glock slide to reach the frame in full recoil. I want to trim this spring but since it's not mine, I'll have to wait till the one I ordered comes in to experiment.
  19. Updated with scope mount.
  20. If you have the chance, you could try an OEM non-LCI extractor. I found one from my old parts stash & put it in my recently built Open 17. I found the extractor claw between the old versions are different from the current production LCI type. The claw on the old ones run parallel to the breechface. The new one tapers upward leaving less hold on the case. In theory, when the barrel unlocks, and tilts downward, the LCI type is only holding on the upper part of the claw, the old one has more surface area to hold on to the case. My old G17's never had a problem with ejection & extraction. My Open gun had some issues so I put this one in & now it works consistently. I also switched it to the Non-LCI bearing.
  21. You should look in to this as well as what type & how many times the cases have been loaded or if they were once fired. Also, was the powder confirmed to be AutoComp? I would assume you have pulled some of those rounds & verified the powder charge on another scale? I've gone up as high as 7.4grns of WAC in my open Glock that chronoed in at 194PF with the same bullet.
  22. Hoping someone can provide me some info on Wolff recoil springs for CZ type pistols, particularly, the ones that are used in Open guns. For instance, does Wolff make them like the factory style springs diameter wise? Or are they like the Wolff Glock springs that have a smaller end that tapers out to the diameter of a 1911 style pistol. If someone could post a pic of a Wolff spring next to a factory spring that would be of great help.
