  1. A person can shoot speedloaders and do well with them. I know a guy who all but made master shooting minor with speedloaders. He switched to moonclips and made master in minor. In light of the hoopla and debate that had precipitated from the rules change and the proposed rules change to allow 8 shots, I believe a little stabilization of the equipment rules is in order. Any further adjustments will just muddy the waters further and not allow true evaluation of the major change that is little 8 vs. BIG 6.
  2. Other than the fact that it can be a PITA to get a holster, I think that's cool that Sig does that. It almost makes you want to buy another one because it's random.
  3. Load slug in the magazine and then hit the shell release lever. Rack the bolt and fire. Should be the quickest and simplest way given the stated concerns/restrictions.
  4. Bolen and Bolen. Springs and followers. Base plate is Bolen also I believe.
  5. Just an FYI: I got a few and the third generation magazines need the super spine over insertion preventer relieved to fit the Arredondo magazine well. Sorry if this has been covered already. I don't know if anyone even runs one anymore, but I do, so figured I'd speak up.
  6. Games are supposed to be fun. Some people play chess and others play checkers. I like choices and find utter joy in finding the loopholes. More on the topic, I've put some thought into this standing reload. If threats are said to potentially exist in the environment after all visible threats have been neutralized then how is being stationary behind cover a good idea? If the boogietarget can get me at anytime I'd like to keep on keeping on. The attempt to equalize the stage between highly and barely ambulatory is never going to be successful and is an overall fun killer. Why isn't there a motion to streamline the discipline's rule set to make it more beginner friendly and less cerebral.
  7. Hello, I am a fan of Win 296 in other calibers, but I wonder if it can be used to load 9mm Major. Some say it won't and I am wondering why. Is it not able to make the velocity or overpressure? If it's possible I'd still like to load it for the fire breathing capability if nothing else. It's always fun to load some flashy rounds. Any ideas on where to start? Thanks for your time!
  8. Some fifteen magazines say no problems here. Maybe the gun has a burr/seam on the base of the frame? Possibly an issue with the magazine release dimensions?
  9. M&P vs. Glock: I'd say that the glock is easier to get setup. There isn't a shortage of magazines for it and the aftermarket is heavier supported. For Production I'd guess it's a wash if you get a 5" Pro against a G34. I'd give the slight accuracy edge to the Glock at this point OEM to OEM barrel. It comes down to what feels best to me in the hand and that is the M&P right now.
  10. Concealment behind the top of the "wall"! C'mon it's better than the blue barrels we've all shot through and still hid behind. In reality there's a good chance Ben could've prevailed, but then again we're confined to target shooting discussion here. The biggest problem armed threat targets pose is to the sanity of the person stuck painting them before the match.
  11. This comment illustrates what envy looks like. It was either legal or he zeroed the stage. Tactically it was genius, as he used elevation, surprise, concealment, and superior firepower to defeat all threats as efficiently as possible. It doesn't take a step by step script where everyone does exactly the same thing all the time to have real rules. The failure to do right rule prevents creativity and exploitation of other than the prescribed solution, they should call it the impractical nonconformance penalty. INCP. Choice is a good thing. In the world of men that is real, we are faced with countless choices and our practical shooting sports should reflect this.
  12. Apparently there's either a lack of knowledge or a code of silence in place. If I find anything I'll post here.
  13. There aren't any options?? Nobody has any input here?? Please??
  14. I was shopping options on both platforms.
  15. 2.5-3# is what you can expect. The trigger reset will not be very strong. I switched back to the four pound spring. I had a thought that I will try when I decide to tinker with the pistol again: remove the cotton or rubber plug from the comp spring and see if that doesn't make the reset more positive. I would think that anything being in the middle of a working spring has got to diminish the power of it somewhat by friction. If it works I'd go back to that 2.5-3# trigger tomorrow. Right now I'm at four and very happy with the positive reset. Being a revolver shooter most of the time there is a chance that I am getting lazy and not allowing the trigger a chance to reset or am riding it harder than I should.
  16. I'm going to call B.S. here. During drills I have gotten down to .15 splits and I just tried fanning the trigger, had a .10 split, I had 4 splits of .11. I have the apex aek comp kit and never had that problem. These guns are incredibly fast. If the trigger didn't reset either you didn't allow the trigger to travel far enough forward to reset or the gun might have the old style sear housing that was know for sear bounce. Thanks for calling BS, it makes you feel good and helps nothing. Apparently I didnt make it clear that I was running the FSS with comp springs not FSS springs. Maybe you can tell me what I need to do to make the comp spring kit work with the FSS. I read all about that sear bounce and my gun is a new style sear housing that doesn't accept the ram. I believe that the trigger reset is too slow when coupled with the FSS and competition springs.
  17. Commit and to for the FSS. The downside is that your trigger weight will go up a little due to the spring situation. I'll bet it could be made to work with some effort, but you'd have to likely remove or cut coils off of the trigger safety. I personally could not get a decent enough reset with the comp kit springs and would occasionally out run the reset. That's saying a lot since I'm no speed demon.
  18. It is possible to remove a lot of the subjectivity of the scoring and running of a stage and somebody is driving it deeper into subjective land. This rule is far worse than the round dumping rule. It's easier to descend into subjective favoritism with the feet movement reload rule. It would appear that efforts are firmly in place to make sure idpa is not confusable with any other shooting sport. It's starting to look as though they've overplayed their hand as dissent mounts from the ensuing confusion.
  19. The real question that needs asking is: Will the Tomasie Custom be ESP legal when it comes out? It most certainly should be! The slide cuts are factory modifications just as the G34 and XD 5.25....if not that's clear manufacturer favoritism. Who cares about what's practical anymore? Slide lightening is slide lightening, no matter who does it, factory or aftermarket. Good for the goose, good for the gander...right?
  20. Is it possible to drop a ten millimeter barrel in this pistol and still have it run? I figured it's ramped so it would be a great 10mm with the advantage of practice with .40. Is there any difference in the ejector between 10 and .40?
  21. STI 140's and 170's work fine with an STI mag release. The outside of the feed lips may have to be polished down a bit to drop free. Other than that no worries. The technology has already been figured out for those mags.
  22. Some may say the 625jm is better than a five inch gun. Of course they'd all be crazy folks like me. Be careful about the Wolff mainspring. The ridge in it may be enough to cause you reliability issues. I find that if the strain screw holds the spring 0.135" off of the frame in the center of the threads it is very reliable. Locktite Blue this and the screw that holds the cylinder in the gun.
  23. Hello all I have a female shooter that really likes her .45 XD Compact. What options are there if any for magazine extensions and magazine wells for this platform? Thanks for your assistance.
  24. Try the four pound spring and take a dry Qtip down the striker channel. Ensure there's no carbon build up on the nose of the striker. Sounds silly, but it appears very easy to get junk brushed into the striker assembly while cleaning the breech face. Various shooters informed me that a striker channel filled with gun oil may cause light strikes. Since then I have been very careful not to over lube the striker channel. No more light strikes.
