  1. Yup. Brownells 54". For transitioning hotel lobbies, the exterior compartments are discreet as well. Most importantly, the company supports the sport.
  2. Very smoothly run match. Efficient ROs. Well-laid out stages, natural terrain was nice. Well done, Dean. Peacemaker's a great facility.
  3. I use both Taccom and AP Custom load 2 systems on TekLoks.
  4. That version of the FNH rules provided by Springy isn't the one on the FNH match website.
  5. Shooting out to 420 yards. That's asking a lot of the 55s. What sort of accuracy were you getting?
  6. I like 2460. It meters great and it gives sub-moa groups with my 69smk loads. However, it does show more velocity as the temps go up, so, expect POI elevation shifts and don't load to max in an AR.
  7. You're right to be scared. Opening up your shellholder will allow out-of-spec rounds to get by. "mic2377" gave a pertinent response to your issue. I use a Lee Turret press, dies and shellholder. If a case doesn't fit into the shellholder, I discard it. I have never had a failure to extract. Throwing away a few free cases is cheap peace of mind.
  8. My SLP shoots the low-recoil Ranger, Federal, Slugger and Fiocchi slugs all pretty well out to a 100 yards, using the IC choke. But I have experienced POI shifts if rested as opposed to offhand. Also, the Fiocchis are slightly longer and I can't get a full eight in the tube.
  9. I have a Stag 3G and yes, it is disconcerting to see that free float tube flex. You can crank on those collar screws all you want, it will still flex. I was told it was a function of the FF tube's length - too much leverage out there. In my case, the backing plate on my bipod mount would touch the gas block and string my shots. So, I slipped a shim in between the upper receiver and the FF tube at the rail. Seems to have worked.
  10. Thanks to Dean and the ROs for fun, challenging stages and no logjams.
  11. Customer service rep at Rock River Arms told me that the blowback action of rimfire conversion units have a propensity for breaking their triggers.Have any of you found it to be true of two-stage triggers only or does it apply to single stage ones as well?
  12. Remington Reduced Recoil Sluggers have been pretty accurate for me in my SLP. Wolf too, though it thumps a little more.
  13. + 1. The vent rib barrel lets you see more, is lighter, better for flying or flipping clays and the Invector + chokes it comes with have been more accurate (in IC and Mod) for long range slug hits.
  14. Since it's a long-action, you could go .270 or 30-06 too, without getting a new bolt head. Just wondering why, if all you're using it for is hunting, you don't like the .243? It's more than enough for whitetail and accurate to use on varmints.
  15. Have used them. No problem cycling in my SLP with the heavy piston.
  16. I have the same scope. If all you're shooting to is 300, then it should work OK. Of course, that assumes your ammo is capable of grouping at that distance. I use 55s only closer than 200. At 200 and beyond, I use 69s. I've shot 69SMK handloads, using the MTAC 1.5-6, all the way out to 700 yards and gotten good hits.
  17. Ahh. I have an MTAC 1.5-6 that came with target turrets. But, everybody else's I've seen have the low-profile ones.
  18. I've shot 69 gr SMK handloads in my AR at distance. More problematic than wind is that beyond 600 yards or so, it's very tough to spot trace. If you don't connect, it's very hard to correct. That said, I've gotten hits out to 700 yards consistently.
  19. While there will be difference of opinion on the break-in process with respect to cleaning, there should be none with respect to the 100 round mag-dump suggestion. It is extremely bad, irresponsible and malicious advice. I observed a buddy dump two 60-round Surefire mags through his Larue Stealth. He wanted to get rid of a bunch of inaccurate handloads and range pick-up ammo and just felt like exercising his trigger finger. A month later, his bullets were impacting sideways at 25 yards and I was laughing my ass off. He had the last laugh, though. Larue replaced his barrel and upper no questions asked.
  20. 3 loads for me. Hornady or Montana Gold 55s for shots less than 200. 69gr SMKs for beyond. If I don't have time to reload, I use 55gr PMC Bronze for the short range. Accurate, same POI at 100 yards as my 69s, great brass and usually $300/1000 at the gun shows.
  21. Because 55 grain FMJ's suck for accuracy at distance. Pat Shhh!
  22. I have been using a LCT with 3-hole turret for years but agree that the 4-holer gives you more versatility. I use mine to reload 9mm, 223 and 270. Use the extra hole for a FCD or a full-length/neck sizer. I didn't like the powder measure disk arrangement and went to a separate RCBS quick-change powder drop. Also, I use a hand primer for better seating feel than the press. I also use a WFT in a DeWalt drill for trimming rifle cases. Quite a good system for loading in 100 round batches IMHO.
  23. Are you clear on what field of view means? Your aiming point on that poor dog's face is different but you have about the same FOV in both pictures. Count the books and the bricks. Now, as for that "black ring", that does change according to magnification. You mount your scope an optimum distance to lessen the amount of scooching forward or back you need to do for your cheek weld. I shoot both eyes open at 1.5 and don't even notice the "black ring". A shame you changed the turrets out. Those tall target turrets on the MTAC and XTR 1.5-6x scopes give your rifle great flexibility. My buddy got hits on a Larue out to 900 yards (.223 69gr).
